- greenfyre, on 09/27/2008, -35/+78VERY misleading title and totally ridiculous article.
The "investigation" is by "watchdogs" who are never identified, but appears to refer to Monckton himself, arguably one of the biggest clowns in the Denier Circus. His alleged 'science' is a laughing stock and has been debunked 6 ways from Sunday http://www.realclimate.org/wiki/index.php?title=Ch ...
"distinguished Florida-based meteorologist Professor Fred Singer" He is NOT a meteorologist http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Singer, like Michaels and Christy he IS part of the Exxon funding web http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/campaigns/global-war ... and if Monckton is Tweedledee, Singer is Tweedledum http://debunking.pbwiki.com/Fred-Singer

Let me guess, his script says he should say that climate change science is wrong - did I get it right? . - sinkhead, on 09/28/2008, -1/+27The BBC doesn't have adverts.
- KDX200rider, on 09/27/2008, -31/+52Sooner or later people will eventually see this snake oil scam for what it is.
- zephyear, on 09/28/2008, -21/+37oh boo hoo BBC is in trouble for not repeating what Shell and Exxon wants them to say on climate change.
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -8/+22So.......Your point is an Al Gore joke!
Is this because you don't understand the science about something you feel is wrong? - inactive, on 09/28/2008, -5/+19The guy is pissed because he was laughed at.
He was laughed at because he's an idiot.
I hope the result of the investigation is that he's too dumb for TV. - Shady77, on 09/28/2008, -30/+42What the hell is with all the global warming deniers on Digg lately?
Buried for being a non-story about a whining crackpot. - kronix2, on 09/28/2008, -5/+16I've just realised that the submitter of the article is the same person who left the following comment: "they may have to change their business model...hard to sell ads on that network without this sensationalism."
Anybody who knows anything about the BBC will tell you it's funded by taxpayers and has no adverts. So, despite not knowing the most basic of details about the BBC, you decided to submit an anti-BBC, anti-science article?
This is how global warming deniers function. They'll leap upon the tiniest morsel of "evidence" which claims to substantiate their delusion, even if they're completely ignorant of the context in which the evidence is presented. Never mind that the BBC is just restating the scientific consensus, or that the majority of British people accept global warming, or that Lord Monkton is a laughing stock with no credibility whatsoever. - ChuckFreck, on 09/28/2008, -5/+16Every time you breath in and out, you contribute to global warming. The only solution is to kill yourself. Then the earth will regenerate and the polar bears will live forever in peace.
- TheCatsPants, on 09/27/2008, -3/+13The BBC is funded by the british public, not by the government.
- beblunt, on 09/28/2008, -14/+24I have lived on an Island in Fiji for many years, grew up there and go back regularily. Too say global warming is not happening at very fast rate is an understatement, trust me on this, I use to be able to walk on a path between the beach and the soil, that path has now disappeared. Also all the beautiful coral that used to be thriving with fish and colour have died out, due to minute changes in the temperature of the water. I'm not a fan of conspiracies at all, but from first hand observation it is becoming a very dangerous threat to those in low lying areas. Look up Noumea, NZ has given them asylum to move over because the Island is about to sink.
- greenfyre, on 09/27/2008, -4/+13My point is rather obviously that Monckton was, if anything, treated rather kindly. Those familiar with his "work" have rather more accurate terms to describe him.
But then that is perfectly obvious from what I said. Your attempt to spin it into some kind of call for censorship is as bad as Monckton's whining. - greenfyre, on 09/27/2008, -9/+17The suns output isn't constant, but that doesn't mean it is driving climate change. Myth climate change on other planets proves the same thing is happening on earth

"If so, at what point should we be satisfied with our climate?"
We have created a situation where we have very, very little margin for human safety. Our ability to produce the food we need depends on the climate being more or less as it has been for the last few centuries (+/-). We cannot afford any significant interruption in food production without massive famine, and attendant war, disease, insurrection, etc. - pearcewg, on 09/27/2008, -30/+37they may have to change their business model...hard to sell ads on that network without this sensationalism.
- greenfyre, on 09/28/2008, -2/+9I know it's not what the article said, I was referring to reality ... see the links I provide
- greenfyre, on 09/27/2008, -13/+19Yeah, Monckton and the Deniers are complete charlatans!
- inactive, on 09/28/2008, -1/+6What the hell is a "potty peer"?
- futureisours, on 09/28/2008, -5/+10How did we get out of the ice ages? were there cars back then? it's hubris to think we have much control over a planetary process. in any case, perhaps greenhouse gases are a good thing right now that will prevent a global cooling trend that's been happening the past 20 years. read about the lack of sun spots and how they contribute to this.
- kronix2, on 09/28/2008, -6/+11Funny how most of the comments attacking the "global warming agenda" are by Americans. It's saddening that the US, despite being industrialised, is the only Western nation in the world where global warming deniers aren't considered a fringe lunatic minority.
The comments above seem to be oblivious to the fact that the BBC is completely ad-free, being funded through a TV Licence tax. The people who fund the BBC - British people - broadly accept global warming, just as we accept the "snake oil scam" of evolution. Funny how denial of global warming and denial of evolution go hand in hand, by the way.
Honestly, it just looks like this thread was linked to in some nutty survivalist/libertarian forum with the suggestion to flood this article with ridiculous anti-reality comments.
Lord Monckton is insane, by the way. He's considered a laughing stock in the UK. - smacksaw, on 09/28/2008, -6/+10I think it's important to keep intelligent design away from science. And in the same vein, we need to keep religious attitudes towards climate change science away FROM THE ACTUAL SCIENCE.
We need to focus on the science, period. If we must "believe", let's leave the fervor and passion reserved for religion out of it. I think it's shameful that they edited this guy to make him look like a quack. It's all about the evidence, not what people want the evidence to say. - Harrison88, on 09/28/2008, -3/+7Sorry but this really does require:

- greenfyre, on 09/29/2008, -0/+3I consistently off facts and evidence http://debunking.pbwiki.com/Some-of-the-climate-ch ... you consistently offer fact free polemics and empty rhetoric.
The Denier faithful may not understand the difference, but the average person does. - 8347, on 09/28/2008, -6/+9I like how the article refers to Global Warming as the new Religion. That's exactly what it is, a cult of followers who get angry with anyone who says anything negative or contradictory about Global Warming. Just attack anyone who brings up another point of view. Whether Global Warming is real or not we need rational people who are experts in the field to debate and find solutions without the personal attacks. What is it with Socialists who think the solution is always to eliminate opposing views and pay money to some government program.
- HorseloverFat8, on 09/28/2008, -5/+8God, I wish the Daily Mail wouldn't keep popping up on Digg. They supported Hitler, for god's sake.
- TheMachine1, on 09/28/2008, -5/+7"new religion of global warming"
That sounds like something you would hear on a right wing radio talk show and not a remark a scientist would make.
"Lord Monckton, 56, a former journalist"
Oh I see he is not a scientist. - Dr.Fade, on 09/28/2008, -3/+5Change his nappy, hell get over it.

4) easily availble on my profile - Angostura, on 09/28/2008, -5/+7Buried as inaccurate, or rather misleading. From what I can tell Monckton has complained to Ofcom, which has, as a matter of course started an investigation into the complaint. The point is that *I* or anyone could complain to Ofcom about any programme and it would have a statutory duty to investigate. It doesn't actually mean that the complaint has any merit.
Personally, I saw the programme and thought it was a thought-provoking look at the controversy. It actually starts by pointing out that in 1972 a group of scientists wrote to the president warning of a new ice age.
You can see the first part on You Tube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SXSVpZkaxg - Dralha, on 09/28/2008, -13/+15The majority of imbeciles who deny reality do so not because of the facts or the science, but out of some alternative reason that has nothing to do with facts or science. In the case of global warming denialism, the world's fastest-growing religious cult, the denial is caused by a deep emotional attachment to $$$, which leads to the delusion that global warming is some sort of vast conspiracy perpetrated by thousands of respected climate scientists to steal money.
- kronix2, on 09/28/2008, -4/+6Gandalff's comment reads like it was cut and paste from the Daily Mail's comments section. Same denial of science, same rejection of the scientific consensus, same propagation of conspiracy theories, same disdain for rational thought and same inability to reason.

http://debunking.pbwiki.com/Some-of-the-climate-ch ... - Madrigalian, on 09/28/2008, -10/+12The BBC has been called on 'deliberately misrepresenting' the facts before. They've even admitted their own willingness to do so in the past (with hand caught in cookie jar) and 'claim' to be "working to improve objectivity" at the network's core. (meaning management and editors) No one should be surprised. The BBC is no better than the New York Times. Both pander to their respective $ocialist elite audience.
- inactive, on 09/28/2008, -2/+4Therein lies the problem.
Global warming is a science backed crock so it makes our ***** fight a mute point. - BeerRules, on 09/28/2008, -8/+10First off this is the daily mail, every time I see the daily mail on digg all I can remember is a quote from twit where Will Harris said that basically the daily mail is nothing more then a tabloid like star and most of what they report is trash.
After reading this article I notice a couple things, first off its not the government doing the investigation it seems Ofcom is in fact the place doing the investigation, who is a watch dog, but for who. There are many watch dogs organizations which most of them have a very real bias. So now we've got a daily mail article which, most likely is nothing more then a sensationalist piece plus a watch dog organization which may have a bias toward conservative views. I mean they guy is upset that the BBC didn't air the whole 90 minutes interview but when does any news organization air the whole 90 minutes of one interview, then you'd have to air the whole 90 minutes of the other guys interview which when you add in commercials comes to 4 hours on global warming, who would watch that! This guy is just upset that they didn't paint him as the right person and seems to me to be an idiot. - Scruffydan, on 09/28/2008, -0/+2did anyone actually read the article. Obviously not. ALL this is about is a complaint (something anyone is free to make) by the infamous crank Lord Monckton against the BBC.
This hardy qualifies as news. - greenfyre, on 09/28/2008, -1/+2Yup, a rant by some digger totally devoid of facts is sure to be way more convincing than the science http://debunking.pbwiki.com/Some-of-the-climate-ch ... to ....
Umm, who do you think will find this convincing? - greenfyre, on 09/28/2008, -0/+1So0 show us all where the science is wrong http://debunking.pbwiki.com/Some-of-the-climate-ch ...
Pls find me some actual evidence, somethign involving facts ... and pls spare all of us the Denier drivel that has been repeatedly debunked as idiotic over and over http://debunking.pbwiki.com/Denier-Myths-Debunked - greenfyre, on 09/28/2008, -0/+1He's lucky they didn't do a thorough presentation of his work, wit commentary by scientists http://www.realclimate.org/wiki/index.php?title=Ch ...
As it is he only looks like a fool, and lucky to get off so lightly - jbella, on 09/30/2008, -1/+2Listen. This is science we're talking about. And it's the science of a very large complicated system. We will never be able to provide a theory that explains and predicts the entire climate perfectly. That being said, the preponderance of evidence and peer review scientific papers point to the reality of human caused climate change.
Is it possible that some of the science is wrong? Certainly. And science is very good at correcting itself when it can be proved to be wrong.
The thing I can't understand is why is there such resistance to doing anything about it? If you think about it logically.. its in our best interests no matter how you look at it. Think about it this way... if the scientists are right then the consequences of inaction are pretty dire. If they are wrong, well then we will have cleaner air and we will have weened ourselves away from a resource that is not supportable in the long run.
Worried about the cost? Think of how much it will cost us to switch away from oil when we hit peak oil and we don't have as much time to shift our economy away from it. Think how much fuel will cost once it becomes clear we have hit peak oil. Think of all the conflict and all out war that might result from countries trying to secure the last of a shinking resource.
Even without global warming.. it makes a hell of a lot of sense to move away from oil now. - greenfyre, on 09/28/2008, -0/+1"simply throwing around accusations of someone being "Part of the Exxon funding web"
I think you will find that comes after it has been shown that the alleged 'science' is total bilge. The question of motivation comes up once it is clear that they do not seem to be motivated by any interest in truth, accuracy, or facts.
If you can find anything by the named persons, or any Denier, that is factual and not already exposed as total nonsense at these excellent sites http://debunking.pbwiki.com/Denier-Myths-Debunked I would be most curious to learn of it. - bruce86, on 09/28/2008, -3/+4Zarchon, During the Medieval warm period that skeptics seem to be having a love affair with. America was suffering from a great drought. Last time I checked, droughts are bad.
For your argument about why don't we just adapt? That is like saying "I don't care if i finish these anti-biotics, who cares if I develop a super resistant strain of strep, They always make more drugs" Its stupid and idiotic to assume that since we have always adapted we will always in the future. Right now, yes we have the ability to treat drug resistant bacteria, but do you know how dangerous it is? That ***** is highly caustic, causing everything from seizures to kidney failure. But hey you don't care right, we will just adapt? - Ferretman, on 09/28/2008, -5/+6Because more folks than ever are seeing through the psuedo-science of global warming and understanding that it's all a hoax by folks who don't understand how real science works?
- greenfyre, on 09/28/2008, -0/+1Don't know why you're being buried, I like you comment :-)
- BettyLou2, on 09/27/2008, -28/+29Is this argument about global warming or cooling? It seems like the consensus changes every 10 years or so.
The climate may be changing, but there is no compelling evidence to conclude that man is the cause. I wonder how man caused the last Ice Age??
George Bush is causing Mars and a few other planets to heat up also. As soon as we can figure out how to purchase carbon offsets and apply them to Mars, from the Earth god, AlGore, we will solve that crisis also. - Scruffydan, on 09/28/2008, -0/+1did anyone actually read the article.
