- Mewchu11, on 06/29/2008, -3/+39ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD
- Aurabolt, on 06/29/2008, -3/+30I hate crocs
http://blog.razoo.com/files/crocs.JPG - GeoNine, on 06/29/2008, -1/+24lesson learned? Don't play mother nature and introduce creatures into new environments. All I see anyone doing here is making jokes. Soon enough these kinds of problems will come full circle and we will all see that's its no laughing matter. Just a one example of a greater problem that will eventually come back to haunt us down the road.
- sciencesays, on 06/29/2008, -1/+24Just another way the cane toad is ruining tropical Australia. It used to be I couldn't ride my bike home without running them over.
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -2/+21That's one bad trip for Freshie.
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -2/+16OM NOM NOM NOM DEAD
- nahsrocketeer75, on 06/29/2008, -3/+16Small comfort for the toad ... yet I'm sure it's satisfying.
- mriegger, on 06/30/2008, -0/+12Clearly the only solution is to import the toad's natural predators into Australia. It's a foolproof plan as far as I can see.
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -9/+20I'm toadally shocked by this.
- LegoLooney27, on 06/29/2008, -1/+12I wish I could bury you 10 times... The cane toad has invaded the eastern USA, though not as bad as Australia. What problem with gators are you talking about? I'm pretty sure it's dumb people invading their territory. Oh, and the gavial lives in India, not the USA.
- BladeMelbourne, on 06/29/2008, -4/+14I think that's a croc of *****.
- consoneo, on 06/29/2008, -0/+8Weren't they part of some plague in some book? lol :)
- Ajajadude, on 06/29/2008, -0/+7If you gotta go, take someone with you.
- sponger58, on 06/30/2008, -1/+8We used to go out during summer with golf clubs and kill 100's of cane toads in a night (no exaggeration). There were even organised toad hunts by the council every now and then. Good times!
- banmaster, on 06/29/2008, -2/+8If you drive over them in your car, provided they are facing towards you they make a satisfying 'pop'.
- sponger58, on 06/30/2008, -1/+7They are a highly poisonous introduced pest with no predators. They kill anything that eats them...cats, dogs, natural wildlife. Glad to help out controlling their numbers.
- Haoie, on 06/30/2008, -0/+6Agreed, and I'll add this applies to plant life too.
Take the example of kudzu in the US, or gorse in New Zealand. - PabloMac, on 06/30/2008, -0/+6"The toads secrete a milky-white toxin which is lethal to many predators from glands behind their eyes and on their backs."
How about:
"The toads secrete a milky-white toxin from glands behind their eyes and on their backs, which is lethal to many predators." - jgauder, on 06/30/2008, -0/+6Whole New meaning to BattleToads
- Roger, on 06/29/2008, -1/+6How do you feel about crocotoads?
- LegoLooney27, on 06/29/2008, -0/+5While I may have never seen a freshwater croc, I have lived in Florida for nearly 2 decades and I can say without a doubt that alligators definitely are not "dumb suckers."
Corner one or interrupt feeding time and you can kiss an arm or leg goodbye. - misspiggymess, on 06/29/2008, -3/+7Cane Toad gets the last laugh, even after death.
- n8o8, on 06/29/2008, -0/+4Unintended consequences of foreign species introduction.
- dselliott, on 06/29/2008, -2/+6Mr. Toad's wild ride.
- PabloMac, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4Pics or it didn't happen
- hiPpymIck, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4didnt Oz have a similar introduced species prblm with rabbits..
- bugerking3, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4I remember first hearing about the cane toad in high school biology. An example of alien animals invading foreign land.
Basically, they are the fire ants of Australia. They have large appetites, destroy ecosystems, and can't be stopped because of the lack natural predators. The poison glands reminds me of huge gigantic pimples with poisonous pus.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpNl8AAFyL4 - aijalon, on 06/29/2008, -1/+4The impassive looks on the faces of animals that being devoured ... really creeps me out.
- BoneheadFarker, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3No...Ughs are something completely different.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugg_boots - chewy5000, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3well, Darwin is in Australia
- JakeyG14, on 06/29/2008, -3/+6If you lick a toad, you're licking every toad it's ever been with.
- PabloMac, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3"After while, crocodile."
- ahoyhoy1, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3Toad you it was a bad idea.
- cobophers, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2Perfect example of how we've screwed up ecosystems. Although its a rather graphic way none the less. Toad gets last laugh huh...well now they're both dead.
- palehorse864, on 06/29/2008, -1/+3Too bad it wasn't frogs.
Frogs are always cool. Never has there been a frog hopping toward me and I thought, Man, I better play dead! - marx2k, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2I blame lack of eyebrows
- angryredplanet, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2Yes, as well as foxes, pigs, goats, camels, buffalo, starlings, cats and dogs.
- freebot, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2I would guess, it is sort of like that powder in the Princess Bride, where one has to slowly build up immunity over several months, otherwise you will die.....
- shagg187, on 06/30/2008, -2/+4I guess Australia found their new "Crocodile Hunter".
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2Porkchop Sandwiches!
- gghost, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2And prickly pair. (And white people).
- trollhunter, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1@ hiPpymIck -> And you're sounding like a dumb-***** self-righteous hippy. Go back to your mullbowl and bong...
- trollhunter, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Rabbits, foxes, cane-toads, camels, europeans...
The list keeps growing... - hiPpymIck, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1i heard theyre a pretty good trip..so im naturally biased in their favour
- BuckCynnie, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Contrary to popular belief, last laughs are best had when you are alive to make it.
- PabloMac, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Prophecy fulfilled?
- PabloMac, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Some of my guy friends are starting to wear them. Ugh...
