Ok, I'm back. Just doin' my part. - inactive, on 09/13/2009, -6/+50Rock on Australia.
- inactive, on 09/13/2009, -3/+37Because the earth cares about per capita.
- chromerium, on 09/13/2009, -0/+32No surprises there. All of Australia's power is from coal, and we have to transmit the power very long distances from very few power stations.
- thinkb4utype, on 09/13/2009, -1/+29Using a per person criteria, China and India are the most pristine countries in the world.
- Antialias, on 09/13/2009, -0/+24We've lost the title as fattest country, we've lost biggest polluter, truly America has fallen from greatness.
- drake77, on 09/13/2009, -6/+26Too many shrimps on the barby.
- estate, on 09/13/2009, -3/+23And if people in this country (I'm Australian) weren't so opposed to nuclear power, maybe we could drop ourselves back down the rankings a bit. We have the world's largest deposits of uranium, and no power generating reactors.
- TrancePhreak, on 09/13/2009, -2/+19I believe China has the largest volume.
- Trent1492, on 09/13/2009, -13/+26If you tried getting those ideological fingers out of your ears perhaps you would understand the evidence presented.
- deathandtaverns, on 09/13/2009, -3/+15No. We know that certain gases like carbon dioxide and methane prevent more heat from escaping into the vacuum of space than others like nitrogen. This is a scientific fact.
- blastcube, on 09/13/2009, -6/+17Per Capita = Per Person.
21 million Australians vs 304 million Americans.
Don't worry America,
You still out pollute us Australian's in sheer volume, we wouldn't try robbing you of that title ;) - schnikies79, on 09/13/2009, -0/+10Umm, not quite.

Pls tell us which of those studies are wrong, how they are wrong, and how that makes all of the other 10s of thousands wrong too. - lionelw007, on 09/13/2009, -1/+7This comment sounds like someone who is JEALOUS.
- Zarchon, on 09/13/2009, -5/+10Not really, they will just deny this is true. Facts have never entered into the picture when it comes to hate. They still think that if you are a conservative you automatically are a racist. If you didn't vote for Obama you are a racist. If you find fault with Obama you are a racist.
- chromerium, on 09/13/2009, -0/+5heh, I know you're joking, but its not an excuse. It's just an explanation.
The excuse is that, apparently, nuclear power is so unreliable and untried that we just couldn't bear to risk it.
The federal labour gubment here has been talking about putting in Nuclear Power since they came into power, but they've not actually done anything about it. I get as much as I can from clean energy, but I don't think many others are paying the extra premium for that. - greenfyre, on 09/14/2009, -2/+7Your standard irrelevant spam

Don't worry, they'll be going home after they've finished seducing your intelligent women, drinking your "strong" beer dry and had enough of the cold. And they'll be going home to Australia, all the pretty sheep are in New Zealand. You've been watching too much Flight of the Conchords.
- yaosio, on 09/13/2009, -0/+3Total polution in the US has gone down as well, the total amount of energy generated by coal is dropping. Deal with it.
- agfresh8, on 09/13/2009, -1/+4But who would want to live there?
- vikingcoder, on 09/14/2009, -2/+4Claiming that man only puts out 3% of the Earth's CO2 emissions is a perfect example of a misleading partial truth, and continually repeating it shows how gullible & pridefully ignorant you are; if not maliciously deceitful.
The natural CO2 sources do outgas significantly more CO2 than mankind emits through the burning of fossil fuels, however that is only one side of the natural cycle. The oceans are a net CO2 sink that are currently absorbing 7 billion tons more than they outgas each year. The oceans have also played a major role as a sink for up to 30% of the anthropogenic CO2 produced during the industrial revolution. The terrestrial biomes are also a net sink that are currently absorbing 5 billion tons of CO2 more than they outgas each year. http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Library/CarbonCyc ... http://www.physicalgeography.net/fundamentals/9r.h ... http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/1190876 ... http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/1188390 ... - cyber2uall, on 09/13/2009, -0/+2Have fun at number one. - greenfyre, on 09/14/2009, -3/+5Good God people, tThe basic CO2 science is almost 200 yrs old. The greenhouse effect was discovered by Joseph Fourier in 1824 and was first investigated quantitatively by Svante Arrhenius in 1896.

- Gizza, on 09/14/2009, -0/+2It's ridiculous that we don't use nuclear power seeing as how we have about half the world's uranium deposits.
- RandomGorilla, on 09/13/2009, -5/+7And if you make generalizations about people making generalizations, you're a douche.
- estate, on 09/14/2009, -0/+2Exactly. Without a high powered battery solar and wind just don't work. We need to get to the point where we can make them work, because clearly, longterm, solar is the best way to go. But we keep getting told we're at the tipping point and need to address the pollution issues right now. Well then back nuclear power and we can then shutdown the coal plants.

Actually the lag was predicted before it was discovered

If you actually understood the science you would realize that one thing that they would have had trouble explaining is if there was no lag ... you have it totally backwards.

Why CO2 lags behind temperature; another climate change skeptic myth explained
http://mind.ofdan.ca/?p=1077 - Zarchon, on 09/13/2009, -6/+8We are talking 3% by volume. How much Co2 is in your balloon? Unknown so the experiment is rudimentary at best and only proves a lot of Co2 raises the temp. That said, humans are responsible for less than half of that 3% and even if we cut our emissions by 50%, which would harm our society greatly, it still would have little affect. Moisture in the air has the same affect, retaining heat that is. Perhaps we should all exhale into a unit of some sort that will remove the Co2 and moisture from our breath? That should go a long way towards helping the planet survive.

There is a reply button under mi comment.
Look "dude" the article is not mentioning the biggest pollutant, it states that any given Australian pollutes more than any given Indian. You don't even have a point since China or India can't in any logical way pollute less than Australia, because the size of the population of each country. Did you read the article?
The problem comes when all of the world wants to live like Americans, or Australians, is just not possible, given the resource that there are in the world.
The most industrialized and advance countries, like USA, EU even Australia and Japan have the moral obligation of getting their carbon emissions down, so the other countries follow their lead, just like in any other matter.
And yes, CO2 is linked to the spike of temperatures, suck it up. -
