- badqat, on 10/11/2008, -1/+38LOL...sounds like a study congress would love to fund here...
- redwolfwalker, on 10/11/2008, -0/+30Maybe, actually measuring the methane put out by congress would be a good study.
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -2/+24Dugg for the picture. Seriously, how can you not?
- Murdats, on 10/12/2008, -0/+20decaying corpses produce a ton of greenhouse gasses, mass slaughters are environmentally unfriendly.
- jaxontyler, on 10/12/2008, -1/+17If they're measuring methane, don't they need ass masks?
- Medicamusic, on 10/28/2008, -0/+10but then there would be no internet!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -5/+13I want to live in an alternate universe, one in which Al Gore never existed.
- dhVyse, on 10/12/2008, -1/+9Oh look at that. It's like an Onion article, just missing the funny.
- inigomntoya, on 10/12/2008, -0/+7This is just like the study that was done to see how cow burps (made up mostly of methane) were hurting the environment.
- vptel, on 10/12/2008, -1/+8sheep: are you my mummy?
(dr who ftw) - inactive, on 10/12/2008, -2/+9I can't wait until South Park gets a hold of this!
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -6/+13I looks like all of the liberal sheep will be wearing the same come spring!
- BossKey, on 10/12/2008, -1/+7The headline makes it sound like part of someone's really disgusting fetish...
- aptanalogy, on 10/12/2008, -0/+6The sheep combine have arrived ladies and gentlemen!
- specialbuddy1, on 10/12/2008, -4/+10All of this CO2/Methane BS is getting out of control. Why don't we just kill everyone and everything already so that we can save our precious planet?
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -0/+6 Humans' the cosmic comedy routine.
- gbudavid, on 10/11/2008, -3/+9And here I thought it was to protect the sheep from Sheepherder Farts...
- opiniastrous, on 10/12/2008, -0/+5@nomadxx7
Consider this: You have mustered up a list of about thirty to fourty scientists. When you consider that there are millions of scientists on this planet, that figure is pathetic. Also consider this. While the scientific profession is largely objective and vigourous in it's search for accuracy, scientists are human. They can make mistakes, be biased, be incompetent. When you have a very small group of people opposing the majority in what is largely an objective and accurate profession, you have to wonder: Are they the mistaken, the biased, the incompetent? - Lhandroval, on 10/12/2008, -0/+5Sheep! Get it? It's punny~
- Venemous, on 10/12/2008, -4/+9Daily Mail = Fox News
- JRW5061, on 10/12/2008, -1/+6lol that picture would make a bad ass album cover.
- Grin23, on 10/12/2008, -0/+5i think you better check your facts. hydrogen is the most common.
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -22/+27I thought that it was basically understood that in the world of rational thought that Climate Change was a natural cyclical event that we must survive. It is not a man made occurrence as raised by those who have political agendas.
- Stevanoski, on 10/12/2008, -0/+4What about all the methane flatulence before man walked the earth? Had to be tremendous. Oh, but you're a believer so won't matter if logic is used.
- sweeneypng, on 10/12/2008, -1/+5Kangaroo meat makes pretty good BBQ, actually.
- chrisgnv, on 10/12/2008, -1/+5A bag-o-dicks? Like a paper bag and they're sticking out like baguettes?
- trogdor282, on 10/12/2008, -4/+8I hope you're joking because that's completely backwards. If you ask a credible scientist if global warming is man made they will say 'yes, definitely'. There are plenty of people on both sides with political agendas but the scientists are all in the manmade camp. We're currently in the WARMEST part of the natural cycle, so it should be getting colder not warmer.
- kotatsu, on 10/12/2008, -1/+5FFS, stop posting links to the Daily Hail. The more people support this wretched neo-nazi hate rag the longer it will continue to pollute the world.
- lofispy, on 10/12/2008, -1/+5wow...its not often I feel the need to say this, but you, my friend, are a fool. ***** the liberals, I agree on that point...but to allow your feelings in that regard to make you a lackluster steward of your domain shows a foolishness beyond all comprehension. After all, I'm assuming that if you hate liberals you in turn consider yourself to be a conservative. And beyond all the mucking up of that term that has been brought about the over-politicization of, well, everything....let's look at the root of the word. Conserve, or more specifically, one who believes in conserving....and well, my foolish friend....how do you justify being a true conservative when your very words betray that you do anything but....but, then again....what do I expect, I would be willing to bet a years salary that you are nothing more than a bland reactionary incapable of critical thought, and certainly less than capable of letting your bias allow to see too far beyond the tip of your nose....
- edein, on 10/12/2008, -4/+7by not clicking the digg it button.
- opiniastrous, on 10/12/2008, -2/+5Sorry linuxdad, you're the one that's been manipulated. Let me put it this way. A meta-analysis (and I'm sorry, I've got source amnesia here) of articles in the media and scientific journals showed that in the media, the ratio of articles for and against the idea of climate change was 50:50. In peer-reviewed scientific journals, the ratio was 90:10 for climate change.
I'm not even sure why you'd think "those who have political agendas" would want to promote climate change. Give it careful thought: what possible motive could anybody have for promoting it? The development of an industry that will be massively inefficient, unprofitable and just plain annoying in the short to medium term? That's no incentive! - nomadxx7, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3Sheeps and cows release methane from their burps? Something I really didn't realize.
I did find this interesting article: http://www.show.me.uk/site/news/STO873.html
FTA:
"A scientific report published in California last week claimed that dairy cows in the area were producing almost 20 pounds (in weight, that's almost 10 kg) of gas every year, each. That's a huge, huge amount.
If that figure is accurate, it could mean that cow farts were causing more global warming than pollution from cars in that region, as millions of cows live there." - trogdor282, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3You're right nomad, I should have said 'most' not 'all'.
- lynchjos, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3Check this out -
http://whatifoundtoday.com/bizarre/100/cow-fart-ca ... - rock774, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3I am sure this will be coming to a blue state soon !
- lofispy, on 10/12/2008, -3/+6No...the far more likely scenario is that BOTH natural cyclical events and man made causes are at fault. It is folly to look at this in simply black and white terms....because both sides of the argument have more than enough political and monetary motivations to skew their perspectives on reality.
- MakanGuru, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3When i was in Washington State University, there were rumors floating around that the life science's department had a cow surgically implanted with a "window" on the side of it so that they could study its digestive system without having to keep scanning it.
just google cow + window
"Cannulated cows are the same as all other cows in the herd except that they are fitted with an item called a cannula," said Natasha Weaver, a senior in animal science. "Basically, the animals have surgery performed upon them that creates a passageway in the side of the animal so researchers can perform readings on what takes place in the cow's rumen." - guyincognito, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3First thing I thought of when I saw the picture
- furto, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3You realise that joke is meant for New Zealand sheep?
- CoreyTamas, on 10/12/2008, -3/+6I'm sure the Aussie sheep don't mind. The gas masks are probably a nice change from the high heels and the blonde wig.
- tearalong, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3My daughter used to work with sheep with windows. Her job would be to remove samples of stomach (or which ever part of the digestive track it was) contents at set times after feeding and then analyse them.
She would sometimes be going back to work at about midnight to take samples from her sheep.
I think the basis of the research was to find out whether nutrient absorption was more efficient by several short feeding spells rather than letting the sheep eat until they were satisfied. The aim was for the most efficient feeding, especially in period of drought, when feed was very scarce. - Sil369, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3Doesn't Australia often kill off any non-Aussie species that make presence in Australia?
- TheKappa, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3*Checks for a link to the Onion*
- uncleosbert, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3a cannula is just a tube. a cow with a window in the side would be a fenestrated cow.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannula - Math, on 10/13/2008, -1/+4Nah, US congress doesn't like to waste money on socialist schemes like science, education and health care.
Much better to give it to the patriots at Hailburton and our other friends. - Math, on 10/13/2008, -1/+4Heh. Sounds like in your world of "rational thought" asbestos and cigarettes are harmless, scientists have created all these huge conspiracies, and evolution is a tool of the devil.
It was hotter than it is now when Adam & Eve were around, wasn't it? We also saw those sea level rises around the time of Noah, only a few thousand years ago. - inactive, on 10/12/2008, -4/+7Until I read the article, I figured the Aussies simply were being humane to the sheep because a tour group of dhimmicraps - or french women (there's a lot in common there, on several levels, when one considers this) - were coming to inspect the operation.
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -1/+4I'd love for one of you greenazis to defend this.
....anyone? - inactive, on 10/13/2008, -1/+4That episode really creeped me the ***** out.
- jiwalden, on 10/12/2008, -1/+4Aussie sheep with a gas mask so scientists can see how their breath will effect climate?. The planet of science fiction is alive and well and living in Australia! What kind of knuckle head thought this one up?
