- christoast, on 05/26/2009, -1/+17For people who don't care and think this is just treehugger BS,
There is so much undiscovered knowledge, scientific opportunities/medicines that are in old growth forests. There much to learn and they take centuries and centuries to reach that level of complexity and diversity, they must be saved.
Paul Stamets in this TED talk makes a great case for this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI5frPV58tY
Forests are important. - mrzisme, on 05/26/2009, -1/+10Who needs oxygen. Clearly the human race needs more parking lots and shopping malls. The fresh humans need new ways to generate money, we must continue making new business to supply ourselves with enough money to have 1 more widget than our neighbor does. Speaking of which, Im holding a sale of *****, you buy 3 I give you the 4th for 1 penny less. Come buy my ***** folks.
Surely we couldnt be overpopulated. We must continue spreading, everyone must make at least 2 babies to continue the human virus. Our mission isnt complete until all the trees and all the resources are sucked off the earth. We've got a lot of work to do, start *****, babies are important. We need more fresh bodies opening business, leveling ground and installing new malls. We'll never be overpopulated. NEVAAAAARRRR, look a sapling, nom nom nom, I love the taste of baby trees, nom nom nom, ***** nature, nom nom nom, must make more MONEEEEEEYYYYYY.
Humans are awesome. - angryredplanet, on 05/26/2009, -0/+9Forests are critical.
- christoast, on 05/26/2009, -0/+8Willie Smits - http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/willie_smits_re ... does just that you fool.
There's a thing called education and action, you're encouraging unsustainability, stagnation and ignorance. Sure, I'll tell that to the people, but I'll also tell them that if they keep clear cutting, most of them will die, their land will become sterile and the biodiversity will degenerate. Take a step back and realize you don't know anything instead of taking such a idiotic self defeating stance, Shut up. You're lazy AND stupid. - envi99, on 05/26/2009, -1/+8We need more initiatives from developed countries. Past memorable initiatives include:
1. Britain Pledges $149.3 Million for People in Developing Countries to Live Among Trees: http://www.yellowsandblues.com/postDetail.php?id=3 ...
2. Norway is the biggest funder of rainforest conservation : http://www.yellowsandblues.com/search.php?keyword= ... - rarson, on 05/25/2009, -0/+6Easy fix: plant more trees. (I kid.)
- flaminglips, on 05/26/2009, -0/+5Well considering he was President for 8 years and did little to help preserve the environment, it's party his fault. Not to mention that more scientific research, which he did not fund, would have helped decrease our need for wood. There is also the fact that losing forests increases the rate of Global Warming. So not only did he help create CO2, he's preventing it from being recycled. I could go on and eventually lead to where Bush has single handedly set back the progression of humanity another 500 years ... but that would just be speculative.
Happy? - christoast, on 05/26/2009, -0/+5What are you talking about, nobody said anything, be quiet.
- Trent1492, on 05/26/2009, -0/+4Is that chip on your shoulder?
- Linake, on 05/26/2009, -0/+4I can't choose whether or not to believe you if I don't understand the point you're trying to make.

The Victorian Government Australia Protects Cow paddocks from logging yet allows a forest coup into Brown Mountain Old Growth Forrest in Gippsland.
Apart from State Labor Vic being a circle jerk of corruption, they are also a pack of dick heads.
They made a promise to stop old growth logging and instead opened the doors to it. Brown Mountain is one of Victoria's last great Old Growth habitats and very little in known about its inhabitants.

To hell with government, Australia is run by idiots and fascists. - notoneofus, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3Sure, what you say is true. Often the reason for needing to clear so much forest in developing nations is the need to feed people. All developed countries did that too (and some still do). But there's been a significant amount of time to learn from the mistakes of those developed countries. Developed countries can and should help. But it requires give and take on both sides. So, developing countries, how about not having so many ***** kids? My god, the arrogance of people who believe they are placed on the earth to multiply until all the resources are gone and then cry for salvation.

- Swivelstick, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2Point is the useful bio-mass from hemp far outweighs that of other plants grown which serve a similar use such as cotton.
- inactive, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1A 10kl wide stretch of Hemp from Florida to New York would provide enough clothing material and pulp cellulose for the entire planet 3 times a year. That is what he was talking about.
- acdcfanbill, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Actually the oxygen argument is a poor one since marine algae makes most of the oxygen we breath. Other than that, I agree with you :)
- inactive, on 05/26/2009, -1/+210%? WTF! lol.
Insanity! - norman619, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1I'm guessing you secretly blame Bush for your own stupidity and delusions.

- idavidtang, on 05/26/2009, -2/+2We must stop Ent immigration.

- Arkyll, on 07/16/2009, -2/+1Politics....
- jh4rms, on 05/26/2009, -4/+2This is why we need to legalize....HEMP and MARIJUANA...
Problem solved.
If you don't believe me, just do the research for yourself. - MrSmiley909, on 05/26/2009, -4/+1Damnit you guys. Didn't you see The Day the Earth Stood Still? We need to save the planet before Keanu Reeves kills us all.
- norman619, on 05/26/2009, -4/+1The reason large chunks of forrest are being cleared in developing nations is that they are trying to survive. You know, grow food to feed themselves? My god the arrogance of people lucky enough to have been born in western nations never ceases to amaze me. you wnat them to stop cutting down the trees? How about giving them a viable LIVABLE alternative? Pull your head out of your ass and take a SERIOUS look at how these people are living. The last thing on their mind is rainforest conservation.
- deema1, on 05/26/2009, -6/+1Preserve them with fire. Sweet fire.
- norman619, on 05/26/2009, -8/+1Yeah... Give the people living in the developing world who are doing the vast majority of the clearing away of forests a real livable alternative to feed themseleves and their families. Until you can do that I think you should shut up and count yourself lucky your life is so good that you can afford to spout this ignorance.
- Wargala, on 05/26/2009, -10/+2Somehow this MUST be Bush's fault! Come on Digg! Let's find a way to blame him! I know you're all very good at the blame game, so don't disappoint me!

What is Digg?
