- MacBookForMe, on 07/17/2008, -1/+13Holy Cow-- you gotta really lean on the horn in India
- brsecu, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Its so easy that caveman in the video could do it!
- bexpen, on 07/17/2008, -1/+11The world is small, the east is red and the solartaxi crew is tired LOL
- amyjane1, on 07/17/2008, -1/+11Tough to get past the cows in India with a solar taxi! lol! I love the way they can move the steering back and forth between the driver and passenger side.
- stephhicks68, on 07/17/2008, -1/+12The adjustable steering wheel is almost as cool as the fact you can go over 200 miles in this car without recharging! You could cover some serious ground along the Great Wall of China... LOL!!
- pinkpackrat, on 07/17/2008, -1/+11love the color, love the comments and love the solartaxi. This is a great way to feature alternative energy solutions all over the world. That India video is fabulous
- MeHasBrains, on 07/17/2008, -1/+11That's great. This guy is driving around on solar power for a year while most big car manufacturers are still "planning" electric vehicles.
btw. how does anyone survive driving in India? Who has the right of way, a car or a cow?- bexpen, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4Cow, of course!
- MacBookForMe, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5Holly cow, actually...
- pinkpackrat, on 07/17/2008, -1/+3definitely a cow, I think:-)
- bexpen, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Cow has the right of way. Except in Kolkata (Calcutta).
- bexpen, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4Cow, of course!
- jodimcmullen, on 07/17/2008, -1/+10I WANT ONE - I already charge my golf cart with a 100w solar panel, but the police won't let me drive it all the way to town, just in my little community. Times are changing, the technology is here. I am really excited for planet earth and all of us creatures that inhabit it.
- pinkpackrat, on 07/17/2008, -1/+11The solartaxi is crossing the USA now-- hope it stops near me. I'm gonna go see it for sure if it does.
- stephhicks68, on 07/17/2008, -1/+10I'm hoping to see it too when it comes through the USA - great that you can see the route and follow its progress.
- bexpen, on 07/17/2008, -1/+10The electric car has been around in various guises for more than 100 years. Is it finally time for mass production? With gas prices being what they are today, the pressure to produce a reasonably priced, battery-powered car for the masses has never been greater.
- pinkpackrat, on 07/17/2008, -1/+7Everybody's working on electric cars these days--problem is getting them to go more than 40MPH or further than 50 miles on one charge. I think the Chevy Volt looks promising--as for solar powered cars? I dunno-- think we've got a ways to go but I love the spirit of the solartaxi team:-)
- stephhicks68, on 07/17/2008, -1/+7That's right - the electric cars are limited in that sense. Its not that they stop going after 40 or 50 miles though - you can drive them long distances. The difference is that regular fuel would then be required to keep the battery charged. For those with short commutes or that don't drive very often, you can recharge when parked and at work. Theoretically, you'll never need to fill up at the gas station again with a PEHV.
- waggdogg, on 07/17/2008, -1/+6I think electric cars are the cars of the future but you still need power from electric companies to recharge the batteries. These companies emit pollution unless they are nuclear.
- pinkpackrat, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5or solar-- how about solar power plants or better yet, solar panels on the roof of a car to recharge the batteries.
- AmyVernon, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5cool looking car, actually..
- stephhicks68, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3I hope and expect to see better energy policies from the new Administration come 2009. But even the thought of waiting an additional 6 months is something we cannot afford. By then, expect gas prices in the U.S. to be over $5.00/gallon. Heating costs in the winter time are going to break some people who are already living on the edge. Just the other day, I heard that our local natural gas company expects to raise its costs by up to 40%!! Let's not just think about solar energy, folks. It is beyond time to implement the technology that is there. When we start to do so, costs will go down as well.
