- ishkabum, on 11/23/2008, -2/+69BREAKING NEWS EVERYONE
lol for entirely inappropriate music - Kyan, on 11/23/2008, -5/+60And the vid itself was lame. Should be titled: couple of guys fly over some broken ice. I was totally expecting to see a time-lapse from space showing the ice melting away over a period of years. This just looks like summer break-up. Buried for stupid, but possibly inaccurate, too.
- regularsteven, on 11/23/2008, -4/+42i wish that music was on everywhere i went
- somedudemanguy, on 11/23/2008, -3/+33Dugg for epic background music.
- Plastic3D, on 11/23/2008, -2/+30a 30 second commercial for a 60 second trench flyover.
- akchrs, on 11/23/2008, -5/+30Are these people retarded?? It's called calving, glaciers do it too.
- scoottie, on 11/23/2008, -13/+32buried for fear mongering
- OneLess, on 11/23/2008, -3/+15How can it be fear mongering when the music is so happy?
- Natealus, on 11/23/2008, -3/+14With the music, I felt like I was on Disney's "Soarnin' Over Antartica"
- btschul, on 11/23/2008, -0/+11The music sounds like it should be in a newsreel with words like "INDUSTRY" and "INNOVATION" scrolling across black and white shots of people working.
- yuanzhoulu, on 11/23/2008, -2/+13it also plays this dumb happy music about a potentially bad thing, and does'nt give any educational information about what people should do.
- biogears, on 11/23/2008, -4/+14Scientists are now finding that the southern hemisphere warms as the northern hemisphere cools. This counter-temperature inversion is a complex issue but several computer models show that it's caused by the Earth's tilt and possibly even connected to the sun's radiation. Of course this is disputed by the summer/winter deniers as a cover up for environmental damage caused by driving SUVs.
- fr3ddie, on 11/23/2008, -1/+9dont forget the spam at the beginning of the video... YUCK!

- agentzero141970, on 11/23/2008, -3/+10Sounds like its a awesome thing that we did to Antarctica, and we are the heroes. Its the music.
- Axtell2k5, on 11/23/2008, -2/+9So what?
Why is this news? Ice sheets, glaciers, etc. melt ALL THE TIME. Just another conspiracy theorist who thinks that somehow, someway, mankind is powerful enough to alter earth's climate.
Here's a hint kiddies: we're not. - 88chrisb, on 11/23/2008, -5/+12Why are the ice cleavage planes so straight?
- borez, on 11/23/2008, -0/+7I had some ice in my fridge, I put it in my JD and coke and it melted half an hour later due to external heat sources.
Therefore... I am now campaigning to ban all alcohol around the world as I have reached the conclusion that JD and coke is a major contributor to climate change ( and that means no more JD and coke for you either Mr Gore )
Also... 3000 of the worlds major scientific alcoholics have also backed up my research in order to get more research grants to buy more alcohol ( for scientific purposes only mind you )
I'll let you know what happens. - OneLess, on 11/23/2008, -0/+6Gotta love the cheery music.

It's almost as if the melting primarily occurs only in one or the other hemisphere at a time, rather than both at once. I guess humanity pollutes more during the summer.
Oh, and also, ice shelves that sit on the ocean won't raise the water level when they melt, so there's that too. - stagnate, on 11/23/2008, -0/+5*sarcastic* I think the best thing we can do is give all our money to the government, they will fix it :D
- 4321234, on 11/23/2008, -1/+4Around the north pole, they're completely gay. In the summer, the phenomena reverses.

"On a global basis, world sea ice in April 2008 reached levels that were "unprecedented" for the month of April in over 25 years. Levels are the third highest (for April) since the commencement of records in 1979, exceeded only by levels in 1979 and 1982. This continues a pattern established earlier in 2008, as global sea ice in March 2008 was also the third highest March on record, while January 2008 sea ice was the second highest January on record. It was also the second highest single month in the past 20 years (second only to Sept 1996)."
You guys know that Mars's northern ice caps are receding while its southern ice caps are actually growing (just like Earth).
So I guess our CO2 emissions are reaching Mars since there is no way the sun is impacting global temperatures, right?
Read it and weep. - btschul, on 11/23/2008, -4/+7Round up all the hippies and make them go hold the ice together?
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+3For me it was more like a 30 second commercial for "Sorry video unavailable at the moment"
- themastersb, on 11/23/2008, -2/+5Dumping giant ice cubes in the ocean?
- AirRaven, on 11/23/2008, -1/+4We have one year of data that bucks the trend. This is enough to draw a scientific conclusion *how*, exactly?
- thcobbs, on 11/23/2008, -1/+4errr, actually... like 11th... buth thanks for playing "Who's the slashdot-douchebag".

- Atmeh, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2Did anyone notice, at around 13-14 secs the grooves in the ice?
I took a screen shot for everyone.
Looks more like an ice breaker ship went through there.
Here is the screen shot.
