- PhoenixFlames, on 01/12/2009, -0/+5Algae cakes . . . sounds delicious!
- defwheezer, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4Sounds all well and good, but you know that stuff is really made of PEOPLE! /slntgrn
- foxxtrot23, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4But... but... what if we *gasp* run out of algae! :o
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -1/+4What fuel crisis? We have a plethora of oil waiting to be tapped. DRILL BABY DRILL!!
Also, going green is for mindless libtards who have no grasp on economics and have an irrational infatuation with Al Gore and his and all other scientists' alarmist ways.
For the record, this is in fact sarcasm. But what's worse is that some people actually say this libel to us who see great potential in such wonderful technologies! Sad sad sad. Props to all the scientists working on the algae solution and the many others. Keep up the good work, gentlemen! I, for one, appreciate the technological betterment of society you all provide. - TexasShiv, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2Ah, the weekly Algea for energy needs article.
- SilverBlade2k, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2Oh, I bet Exxon has something up their sleeve to prevent this, like pressuring the government to declare all Algae an endangered/protected species..or some ***** like that.
- datagod, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2Too funny. I thought they were referring to my attorney, Al Gae. He ranks right up there with slimy scum.
- RedStateRetard, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1Finally Florida's rivers and waterways are good for something.
- OutpostNetwork, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1Is this what they mean by going green?
- walkable, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1I really hope this pans out. The effects of peak oil are going to be devastating.
- dragon76, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1The cake is a lie!!!
- mehan, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1It seems like every week there is a great new source of energy, a cure for cancer and AIDS, and other ***** that will change the world forever.
Why do I never see any of it come to life? - Junior612, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1Been seeing a lot about this. One of the more interesting things being an MIT project.
More info here:
http://web.mit.edu/erc/spotlights/alg-all.html - Junior612, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1Algae is extremely low on the food chain and extremely abundant throughout the worlds oceans.
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1Fusion, unfortunately, is still several decades away. Confining the Hydrogen plasma in a dense and sufficiently heated state is quite difficult and will take more research before being ready.
The obvious and most effective alternative would be a combination of solar, wind, and geothermal for generating electricity - sorry, no nuclear; it isn't going to happen. And for cars, rechargeable plug-in batteries with biofuels as a generator for longer distances. For hauling trucks, natural gas. etc. - Lososaurus, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1So....Algae for gas, fusion for electricity?
- maz2331, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1Let me guess - he works for Dewey, Cheetham, and Howe?
- maz2331, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1More likely, Exxon has a plan to just refine the algae into gasoline.
They are in the fuel business, not the "oil" business.
Especially if the change is "disruptive" enough that they can open up new refineries and algae farms in some 4th world country sans unions.
They would do it in a second. - Spencer10, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1What, nobody here watches Battlestar Galactica? It's their entire diet. Science nonfiction? No, that's awful, don't ever reuse that phrase.
- MrZaiko, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1I just heard about this on science channel
- narayansitar, on 01/13/2009, -0/+0When this algae fuel is finished i will by a diesel vehicle.
On another note, in the US we have
patent No 6,410,059
granted on June 25, 2002
for cow urine in a pharmaceutical composition of antibiotics and distillate cow urine for increased effects
Cow dung also has its value but the urine is more effective as a medicine - Mestara, on 01/13/2009, -0/+0Oh Great.. More slimy scum involved in the fuel industry. Just what we need!
- winter360, on 01/13/2009, -0/+0thats punny
- JackSchittt, on 01/13/2009, -0/+0And much like our weekly cures for AIDS, cancer, global warming, and the energy crisis, this is the last we will hear of this.
Next week, someone will find a way to cure something using processed dog *****. - say592, on 01/13/2009, -2/+1"120 gallons from rape."
I dont even know where to begin. - ballpencil, on 01/13/2009, -2/+1One of the most popular has been biofuel: oil derived from corn, rape and soya.
-- Ok, let's rape and safe the environment. - GeorgeTirebiter, on 01/13/2009, -5/+1Screw the algae; use E-85!
