- yocouchdigga, on 11/02/2009, -1/+27Gotta love TED Talks.This one's great.
- DreadPirate, on 11/02/2009, -3/+18Spoken like someone who has never lived a day outside of a major metropolitan area.
- terminal157, on 11/03/2009, -3/+18What does a tennis player know about electric cars?
/s - c0mputar, on 11/02/2009, -2/+14Ambitious but necessary.
- mkriss5681, on 11/03/2009, -0/+11Tempted to dump some stock into companies like this. Electric cars are going to be huge in the next 20 years.
- snkscore, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9Blog spam!
Just go direct to the actual video:
http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/512 - Rahodeb, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6I felt the same way until someone explained the breakdown of actual power consumption by an electric vehicle. It probably takes more electric power to produce and transport the gas that you use in your car than it would to run an electric car.
- inactive, on 11/03/2009, -1/+7berate...muy god...do you really not realize how bad you come across in this thread?
I am shocked to see you are 27 years old. sad. - norwegianlegion, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6Did you watch the video? He addresses why even with the upfront expenses of his solution it's necessary to stop the vampiric money suck oil currently holds on the economy, and how to solve the charge and range issues.
- DreadPirate, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5Berate - Congratulations. That's one of the most pathetic responses I have seen yet.
Do you have any idea where the food you eat actually comes from? Without the "rural bumpkins", you would starve to death within a month. - Virgule, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5lol right. We better keep setting the oil up on fire just for the sake of hauling our asses around instead of making goods out of it. :)
- CreateTheFuture, on 11/03/2009, -2/+6I recall hearing something similar in 1989.
- alphasierra411, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3then again pretty much everywhere, even nowhere, has electricity these days... and all you need is a power socket, not a gas well..
- sHockz, on 11/02/2009, -7/+9im sorry, but electric vehicles are a no go....not unless you have enough money to lobby against the oil industry.
electric cars could be flying, ass wiping, beautiful machines that cook your every meal, and would never go mainstream. you need the oil industry behind you, and they couldnt fear anything more than free solar energy to power your car. - InactiveUser, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2How to serve an ace...
- maja742, on 11/03/2009, -3/+5i thought it would be Andre's plan, something to do with meth
- inactive, on 11/03/2009, -1/+3yawnnnn...yes...we should all go back to the stone age for you. And everybody should be piled 100 stories up to cram everyone into major cities,
- johnwayne1, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2Well said.
- JQP123, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1"....not unless you have enough money to lobby against the oil industry."
There is more than enough money ... it exists in the marketplace for anyone with the motivation and ability to take it. In other words, more money can be made by going against oil rather than with oil. - gkiltz, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1In order to succeed, it must, in most of the industrialized world, include a major upgrade of the electrical grid. Not just generation, but distribution as well. Any other way, it will not be any more than a very limited success.
- LokitheComplex, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1You don't know what you're talking about.
- magus_melchior, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Um, question for you folks thinking this is Andre Agassi...
Do you even read the description? - ThraxyWaxy, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1pro tip: vibration dampeners dont do anything, i've tried.
- rizzono, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1The best company as far as price and quality in the USA that offers all electric vehicles in my opinion is ZAP automotive.
http://www.zapworld.com/ - LokitheComplex, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1Potentially is oil industry is like the record industry and electric cars are like the net.
- provoko, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1IF YOU WATCHED THE VIDEO HE SAID BATTERY SWAP AT CURRENT "GAS" STATIONS!!!!!
- unangbangkay, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1They're putting out the Alias soon, right? That's in the running for some EV supercar challenge. Here's to it winning!
- grasshoppir, on 11/03/2009, -1/+2ofc you are wrong wrong wrong..
- beakerbite, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1It seems ambitious but I think that's mainly because we've all gotten used to nothing ever happening. Like healthcare reform; we are hoping to have it done in several years. Reduction of military occupation; we're 'working' on getting out but we have no actual deadline to leave. The debates on abortion, gay rights, nuclear power, and etc; we've been debating for years and years and wobble back and forth all arguing but never actually making decisions and acting on them.
- RicktheBrick, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Lets do some math. He says batteries have a 2000 cycles at 120 miles per cycle or 240,000 miles per battery. At $.08 a mile that is a cost of $19,200 a battery. He is saying by 2020 the cost will be $.02 a mile or $4,800 a battery. It would take me over 30 years to drive 240,000 miles. Lets say the battery will last 10 years so I would need 3 batteries in the 30 years but I would only get 80,000 miles a battery and at even $.08 a mile that would be only $6,400 a battery and at $.02 a mile it would be $1,600 a battery. Even at those cost, who is going to pay the $6,400 for the battery so I can pay $800 a year? This does not even include the cost of the electricity. He is right about the economy if we go back to a full employment economy the cost of oil will go to $200 a barrel and we will go into another recession but if it takes 8 years to do so Obama and Biden will not be running for any office so I guess they will not care.
- pixelpimp, on 11/03/2009, -2/+2I watched "who killed the electric car" and I got really anger at GM for taking back the cars they leased to people. I then read on another site GM cost per battery per car was $35,000 for the battery alone. Each driver was paying $350 a month. Which the second said laid out what a great deal the EV1 drivers got. No wonder they made a movie slamming GM. I think that all electric cars will hurt the environment more by creating batteries. I think we need to separate the engine from the transmission and untangle all the belts from the main engine drive cam. I think the combustion engine can be made extremely efficient and filter it exhaust to nothing, use an engine to care a medium size battery or go to electric motors that will drive the car. Also we need to change the transmission. No car ever need to go over a 100 mph. People don;t need to go that fast and passing at 100 is suicide. Limit the car to 90 or 100 and gear the trans for faster acceleration.
- fasda, on 11/02/2009, -6/+6they'd also have to have to go from dead to full charge in less then 6 hours and you'd have to find a place to charge them in the middle of ***** nowhere
- inactive, on 11/03/2009, -3/+3I love how the title refers to him simple as Agassi, as if 90% of real people would not think they are talking about Andre.
Funny story about Andre...perhaps in an effort to make as much meth money as possible, he would endorse anything apparently. I have a Head vibration dampener wendorsed by Andre. After I put it on, I thought about it for a second and realized that I have never seen Andre use a vibration dampener on his rackets. He was famous for always using a plain rubber band tied to his strings. So I checked the picture on the packaging. And sure enough...on the package for the Andre Agassi endorsed Head Brand Vibration Dampener (cost $$3.99 though I got it on cleatance for 50 cents), Andre Agassi clearly has nothing on his racket but a 1 cent rubber band.
What an endorsement! - nitrojunky24, on 11/03/2009, -1/+1this doesn't sound all this amazing but I doubt this is actually possible in a little over 10 years? doubt it
- InactiveUser, on 11/03/2009, -1/+1The Illuminati are the venture capitalists funding it..
- wassim2k, on 11/03/2009, -3/+2Forget about dailygalaxy.com -- Digg shares its global Internet vision for a radical plan to take entire countries dailygalaxy-free by 2020.
- blankmedia, on 11/03/2009, -2/+1sadly, the Illuminati will not allow this
- Barackalypse, on 11/03/2009, -2/+1At first I was like, "not another Andre Aggasi article on the front page, why can't this man stick to shilling DSLR cameras?"
- rwbrinso, on 11/03/2009, -4/+3Does it involve crystal meth and Canon cameras?
- BerateBirthers, on 11/03/2009, -1/+0We need to force GM to bring back the EV1. And Obama should fire any GM employee who refuses to go along with his green cars initiative. What good is owning a car company if the government cannot control it?
- chockster, on 11/03/2009, -5/+1I know he has a book out, but does Andre really have to ride the Electric car bandwagon as WELL?
- Ferre1, on 11/02/2009, -12/+6Yeah right, it doesn't take oil to make all those cars, it doesn't pollute to make all those batteries, and all that electricity is going to come from solar panels.
Dream on, I just listened to another big marketer with another big pseudo solution to earn him big money. - akchrs, on 11/03/2009, -11/+3The cars probably be made with a lot of plastic. Plastic comes from oil. Hippies crack me up.
- BerateBirthers, on 11/02/2009, -17/+1Why are we encouraging ANY cars? We need to ban all automobiles and get people to use public transportation. Private infrastructure is a disaster.
- BerateBirthers, on 11/03/2009, -18/+0You want to be a rural bumpkin, go ahead, but some of us have evolved.
