- absolutelytrue, on 05/27/2009, -2/+15Great approach. Having the nuns involved should strike fear in the hearts of many.
- hbyrne, on 05/27/2009, -3/+16Nice to see, although Chevron is working from such deficit position that any good deed they might perform still seems to pale by comparison with their otherwise villainous practices.
- UTKEngineer, on 05/28/2009, -4/+13Let the fundie/religious bashing commence!
- greensky, on 05/28/2009, -0/+6Shareholders of insurance companies need to band together to change how they operate in a similar manner.
- ZenMojo, on 05/28/2009, -0/+5I keep hearing this argument, but it ignores the whole point of the free market, which is that prices fall to a sustainable equilibrium. So MAYBE they raise prices, or maybe not, but what is stopping them from raising prices just for the hell of it anyway? (By the way, they already are.)
Hardcore capitalists like oil companies aren't out to give you affordable items and pay workers a fair wage, they're out to squeeze as much money out of you and the work force as they can get away with. If prices go up, they're often going up because they can. - alais, on 05/28/2009, -5/+8Nope not possible, we all know that Christianity is bad.
- sHockz, on 05/28/2009, -2/+5did they threaten chevron with a yard stick? nuns for carbon credits!

- inactive, on 05/28/2009, -3/+4I think the Roman Catholic Church will get in on the Carbon Tax racket, just as they did with the heroin racket.
- dieboldcracy, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1I love that term. "denier" Listen buddy. We don't deny global warming is happening, mmmkay. We question the reason for it happening that has been "universally" agreed upon. Carbon........Dioxide. I'm not going to bother debating the issue now, but I just wanted to state that the debate isn't over whether it is happening, but what cause of it is...............mmmmkaaaaaay
- dieboldcracy, on 05/28/2009, -2/+3will the nuns be exempt from the Global Carbon Tax?
- cashmonkey, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1Yes it would. Basic economics. But so what. The world would not melt and our already unnecessary standard of living would be a little lower.
- anillop, on 05/28/2009, -1/+2If you ever had a Nun as a teacher you know you do not mess with a Nun for any reason. Both my first and second grade teachers were nuns and to this day they still intimidate the hell out of me.
- cashmonkey, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1Dam you deniers are nuts. EVERYTHING IS A CONSPIRACY!!!

Permafrost melt poses long-term threat, says study
Melting permafrost could eventually disgorge a billion tonnes a year of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere, accelerating the threat from climate change, scientists said Wednesday.
Their probe sought to shed light on a fiercely-debated but poorly-understood concern: the future of organic matter that today is locked up in the frozen soil of Alaska, Canada, northern Europe and Siberia.
The fear is that, as the land thaws, this material will be converted by microbes into carbon dioxide, which will seep into the atmosphere, adding to the greenhouse effect.

Leading to this

- nextTopModel, on 05/28/2009, -3/+3Put oil firm chiefs on trial, says leading climate change scientist
Speaking before Congress again, he will accuse the chief executive officers of companies such as ExxonMobil and Peabody Energy of being fully aware of the disinformation about climate change they are spreading.
