When I saw them I dropped my laptop and screamed at the top of my lungs "There is no God!". Different Strokes indeed. - Cyre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Yes, they are real They are called "lenticular" clouds.
- HunterTV, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26^ Commment ^ says it all.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22http://bp0.blogger.com/_Fzq94YVbHHM/Rh1PVOtFVhI/AAAAAAAABjI/vMV2DaqO_xg/s1600-h/rare_clouds_29.jpg
Can someone possibly help me identify this cloud formation? I saw the same thing when I was a kid in Jr. High School. I was never able to explain it to anyone, though, and therefore, never able to get it identified. The only thing I could ever think of was, "It looked like Jupiter's clouds had suddenly come to earth"
I would be enormously thankful. - dziban303, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Lenticular clouds aren't very rare. Not in Reno, anyway.
- Cyre, on 10/12/2007, -44/+61You are a sadly brainwashed person. It's all natural, there doesn't have to be some "god" to make clouds.
- novoxborder17, on 10/12/2007, -14/+31@cptamerica
shut up. - Pr0v0st, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Shouldn't this be a collection of rare cloud formations? I didn't think collections were all that rare...
- SomeManbeapig, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Can we just stop using "Title says it all". It's like descriptions have no use anymore.
- Elpram, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12@realitybias
I believe they are called "Mammatus clouds"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammatus_cloud - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9From the above link:
The name "mammatus" is derived from mammary, due to some persons believing that the clouds bear a significant resemblance to human female breasts. - skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's pornography for christians.
- MurderMystery, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I guess collections are not as rare as the submitter originally thought.
/zing! - MarcusJMcLean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7One type of clouds they forgot to add to the list, hole-punch clouds:
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/image/0401/holecloud_knain.jpg - Shad0wSP, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12i was about to not read it but then you added (amazing)
but good pics =) - thoughtudied999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7This was on the front page a few weeks back, I think...
- clemsontiger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Most of those are mamantas clouds. awesome as hell if you ask me
- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'll bet its crawling with ***** Gorons, eating all the damn rocks like they own the place
- wedges, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7how many times will these be dugg???
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well, I thought they might have been mammatus, and thank you for answering my query... but the big difference, as you can see from the photo, from normal mamatus clouds, is that the clouds in the photo and the clouds that I saw in real life, were all connected, without any gaps or breaks, and they seemed so smooth... almost like mercury. Even metallic.
There's something different about that sort of cloud.
Also, there were no cumulonimbus clouds in the area, which mammatus clouds usually require, right? - Becky65, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4At the very least they are all wonderful photograps of natural beauty.
- MarcusJMcLean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Mammatus clouds. A rare form that is seen after the worst of a storm.
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Did anyone else immediately think of the opening sequence of Neverending Story when they saw this one?
http://bp3.blogger.com/_Fzq94YVbHHM/Rh1RU-tFVrI/AAAAAAAABkY/2guZiiD3qFo/s1600-h/rare_clouds_20.jpg - LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The darker cloud formations remind me of Anchorage, Alaska, where I was born, where it's raining or snowing or simply overcast nearly every day of the year. Sigh, makes me sad to think of home.
- Senescence, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I think we should stop using "Title says it all" if the title is incorrect. In this case, (sorry to be Capt. Grammar here, but) the "rare" in the title should come before "cloud", not "collection".

- erimepie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Is it me or does the second to last one look like that town is about to be destroyed by a big ass tidal wave?
- raymore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2very awesome.
- orgazmo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@cptamerica
Clouds + Long Exposure = Proof of God? - Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2lol, this story had both the "title says it all" and the "amazing".
No doubt I'm on Digg at least.. - greg9683, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2#3 is an HDR photo.
- MarcusJMcLean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They're all real, you knob.
- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I also question the title.
Is this a rare collection of cloud pics? Or is this a collection of rare clouds pics?
And submitter claims the title says it all. To shame! - vroom101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very pretty storm cloud over New York State
http://ChamorroBible.org/gpw/gpw-20061021.htm
Cloud strangeness -- no idea what going on here!
http://ChamorroBible.org/gpw/gpw-20050307.htm - withoutashovel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the next to last pic looks like a painting. that or the camera just doesnt make the houses look real enough.
- maehem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool! At least four of them made me yell out "Boobies!" ;-)
- ScottY07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OMG UFO! lol
Those are cool though. - killco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some of the dark ones looked like something out of gears of war...or is it just me?
- HsoKinees, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'm suspicious about some of those.. i think some might be camouflaged flying saucers!
- f201, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone have a larger version of that last picture?
- atbnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You're obviously fake.
- Ibox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Blow me :)
- briarmoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2a bunch more pictures of the lenticular clouds: http://valuca.funtigo.com/?preview=y&g=25544746&cr=1&rfm=y
a bunch of them are repeats of the above, but a bunch are a lot cooler. Check it out. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2videos or they didn't happen
- Andytom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I want to believe
http://bp0.blogger.com/_Fzq94YVbHHM/Rh1UKOtFV4I/AAAAAAAABmA/CJMUKhMPaJk/s400/rare_clouds_03.jpg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i don't know if this was posted yet but http://photos1.blogger.com/photoInclude/blogger/5639/2020/1600/Hand_of_God.jpg
- tomvendetta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2at the beginning of the school year it was around 9:00pm and the sky looked kinda like this:
http://bp0.blogger.com/_Fzq94YVbHHM/Rh1PVOtFVhI/AAAAAAAABjI/vMV2DaqO_xg/s400/rare_clouds_29.jpg
only that it looked like the clouds were flowing or that the earth was spinning alot faster than it should have.. still to this day i have been trying to find out what it is called when this happens and if it happens at certain times - vroom101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Photo #33: http://chamorrobible.org/gpw/gpw-200702.htm
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2A rare grammary commentation, forsooth.
