A Lake on Earth That Looks Like Mars [PICS]
sciam.com — There's only so much you can do searching for extraterrestrial life when you're Earthbound. One approach is to locate and study the best terrestrial examples of what might resemble conditions that could support life on another planet. To see what extraterrestrial life might be like, scientists are busy studying a Canadian Lake.

- aabernathy, on 07/12/2008, -6/+6Trippy Photos...
Its funny to think that we know more about space than we do about our bodies of water here on earth. - daRoach, on 07/12/2008, -5/+3I didn't know underwater artichokes grew on Mars...
- Cedargrove, on 07/12/2008, -0/+45Come on... who first expected to see an aerial photo of a lake that somehow looked like mars.... i know someone did... not me of course
- Asianwaste, on 07/12/2008, -1/+10I did. I was skeptical of it at first but then again I never expected a Dorito to resemble Jesus, but lo' and behold. Imagine my disappointment. BTW, my savior was delicious.

- zadadka, on 07/12/2008, -2/+2The sonar images in pic 5 suggest curiously straight lines...straight lines don't tend to occur in nature, and it reminded me of a flooded open mine.
And the last picture needs a HiRes Desktop version....gorgeous.- tedrock, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3the straight lines are caused by the passes of the robotic subs... which travel in straight lines.
- majestichazard, on 07/12/2008, -1/+21headline should have been "Scientists look to Canada for examples of Extraterrestrial Life"
- tedrock, on 07/12/2008, -2/+4yep. buried for misleading title.
- ferrell, on 07/12/2008, -0/+8Mars has lakes?
- popstation, on 07/12/2008, -3/+0Stop comparing this ***** images to Mars, if Mars was anything like earth no one would ever want to go there.
- elnerdo, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2Actually, if Mars was exactly like Earth, people would probably already be there. There's a good reason we're on Earth and not on Mars.
- tyeh26, on 07/12/2008, -0/+0so, early life looks like artichoke?
- bobdigi, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3Goddamn slide show *shakes fist*
- astrobela, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1wow I felt so dirty when I clicked on "View Slide Show"
- miggyb, on 07/12/2008, -0/+0"Astrobiologist?" Really? I refuse to believe that's a real title.
- zaptoman, on 07/13/2008, -0/+1"To venture below the surface of Pavilion Lake is to take a trip back in time to observe Earth's earliest life-forms." No, its not. Its a trip below the surface of a lake in 2008 to observe life forms that exist in 2008.
- socketman, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1How does that look like mars at all? It is all green and stuff, I was under the impression that mars was reddish, and wasn't under water
