- winguero, on 07/16/2009, -6/+14Man, when you thought AIG couldn't get more short-sighted...
- BalancingAct, on 07/16/2009, -11/+16Glad to see that they are starting to wake up to reality.
- superkeer, on 07/17/2009, -3/+8When humans of the future are dying on a planet incapable of sustaining life, I'm sure they'll be pleased to know how much money we saved. And if they're not dying on a planet that has averted disaster, I'm sure they'll still be just as pleased to know how much we risked in our efforts to save money.
Our culture is a bunch of dicks. - nickaster, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4As an insurance company, they really ought to have some long term interest in the consequences of climate change on the people and companies they insure. Many insurance giants, such as SwissRE are taking a pretty active role in this.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -2/+5AIG has no obligation to support an unprofitable program. Their only job is to make a profit for their shareholders. That's it. Granted, they haven't been doing a very good job of it the past year or so, but that's all they have to try to do.
- nmessick, on 07/17/2009, -2/+4No profitable! We'll I guess we'll just cap and trade ourselves right to profitability then!
- sndream, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Just liquidate AIG already.
- SpinningHead, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Yes, we all know that no overwhelming majority of scientists have data supporting this theory...oh, wait.
Nope, it seems you're the one going on faith. - JoeParanoid, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2So AIG can ask the government for more money of our money when they get swamped with claims from "extreme weather" disasters.
- erkokite, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2And this, libertarians, is why the free market cannot be relied upon to protect the environment or ensure energy independence (or really do anything other than make a profit for themselves).
- villainousT, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2All AIG is responsible for is making money. Really it's the government that has failed us when it comes to energy innovations, keeping corporations in check, etc - looking out for people in general. Hopefully we can make strides with the Obama administration. There are some signs of hope, but I still worry.
- rustygb, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Anyone see the new AIG commercials?

a bit bland... a grain of salt might improve the flavour - ivan423, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1boonie hats are the best.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Good! At this point most green initiatives are a waste of money.
- erkokite, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Thank you for illustrating my point in perfect clarity. It is still worthwhile to pursue green energy regardless of how profitable it is, as it will pay off greatly in the long run, though more likely in a non-financial manner (clean air, water and political/economic independence from regressive and despotic fossil-fuel supplying countries). Conservatives and libertarians fail to see beyond the almighty dollar. It's very short-sighted and selfish.
- xGORDOx, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Remember, Enron created Cap & Trade.
- kuzotz, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1americans are idiot.s
- agvance, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1spinningHead: Please cite your claim that the majority of scientist support man-made global warming theory. Because that is BS
- SpinningHead, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Humans are idiots
- FAT_PIGGY, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Global Warming LOL
- 3The3Dude3, on 07/17/2009, -1/+1Surely that doesn't have anything to do with one of their PE Managers "leaving" to sit on the Board of Directors for Al Gore's Generation Investment Mgmt.
http://www.generationim.com/about/team/mehn.html - 3The3Dude3, on 07/17/2009, -1/+1You couldn't be more incorrect. AIG has many divisions under it's umbrella. Only one of them went upside down. Yet it impacted the whole company. Kudos to them for making an effort not to repeat that mistake.
- xMrAx, on 07/17/2009, -0/+0Last I heard Nasa was supporting the idea that it was changes in the sun affecting our climate change.

http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/news/topstory/ ... - thejamabides, on 07/17/2009, -2/+1WHEN green energy IS profitable, don't you think the free market will jump onboard with everything they have?
The libertarians are right. You are wrong. - inactive, on 07/17/2009, -5/+3All you Church of Global Warming Cultists know is fear-mongering. No science, just fear.
- ismhmr, on 07/17/2009, -4/+2Maybe they decided that it is in their best interest to not be involved in the climate change, Pig-Bear-Main Scam, or to participate in any more fraudulent activities.
- RunningEagle, on 07/17/2009, -6/+3I thought they were owned by the government now. So shouldn't they be constantly pumping funding into useless projects for decades to come?
- DavidNiven, on 07/17/2009, -11/+4Oh, no. AIG, you helped screw the American economy. You continue to waste money on the Goracle's theory of global warming and cow flatulence. No bailing out for you, mister. AIG deserves to go down in flames.
