- adrianmonk, on 11/30/2007, -2/+43This article is kinda stupid. Those people are not really fighting about dead moths. They're fighting about money. (Or at least potential earnings.)
- socialpyramid, on 11/30/2007, -3/+31"Obviously these moth corpses are valuable for some reason. Like most disgusting animal products with high values, it’s because of traditional medicine." ha ha. Now pass the tiger penis soup and bear gall bladder, please.
- sazai, on 11/30/2007, -2/+25Making blanket statements about Tibetans being violent? Hmm...no mention of the resettlement of Tibet with Chinese. No mention of the rampant poverty in the more rural areas of China. But oh yes, those Tibetans sure are dumb, fighting over moth-fungus and all. Couldn't possibly be the mass starvation going on. Couldn't possibly be that these people are as desperate as their actions scream.
- kitchung, on 11/30/2007, -1/+18and people in india think your steak is disgusting and jews and muslim think your pork is dirty. To each their own...
- teddyrux, on 11/30/2007, -2/+18The author of this article is unnecessarily juvenile.
- onClipEvent, on 11/30/2007, -5/+19i'm of chinese descent, and i've stopped expecting anything civilized from china. stories like this reminds me how there's a huge Chinese population still living in the stone age.
- kitchung, on 11/30/2007, -0/+14According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, this stuff is pretty good for you and there's been research on it's chemical compounds.
It's more a fungus than a worm and doesn't taste half bad; my mom makes soups out of it.

- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -2/+16these things cost almost $8k per kilo? They'd better cure AIDS at that price.
- kindrobot, on 11/30/2007, -1/+11Someone at environmentalgraffiti should check out this site called google. I hear it has links to all kinds of info about stuff all over the world. It's really weird.
"Some Cordyceps species are sources of biochemicals with interesting biological and pharmacological properties, like cordycepin; the anamorph of Cordyceps subsessilis (Tolypocladium inflatum) was the source of ciclosporin — a drug helpful in human organ transplants, as it suppresses the immune system (Immunosuppressive drug)."

Yeah, worthless fungus, those nutters. Those crazy Chinamen!! ***** stupid article. Next time do a little research before you start calling other people you don't understand "nutters", making yourself look like a stupid westerner. - kitchung, on 11/30/2007, -1/+10Yes, it's quite true that people die from TCM directly or by ignoring western medicine. However, TCM has been in a huge decline in China while western medicine is growing rapidly due to proven effectiveness. And there's ongoing research on TCM and 'westernizing' it. Example, Willow Bark became Asprin so don't completely dismiss TCM; it's worth it to bring it under the light of the scientific method.
- JLecker, on 11/30/2007, -0/+9Well... protein at least.
- Bukowsky, on 11/30/2007, -2/+11I hear that Tiger Penis Soup is FULL of nutrients & protein.
- kitchung, on 11/30/2007, -5/+13dude, i'm just trying to bring some personal experience and education into this discussion and you're disrespecting my mother.
- kholburn, on 11/30/2007, -0/+8Thousands die each year in China from fake drugs, both western and traditional.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 11/30/2007, -2/+10Thousands die from traditional Chinese medicine each year in China alone. They should really certify it with a medical body instead of poisoning people each year.
- Wrathernaut, on 11/30/2007, -0/+7Yes, it is worth brining to light under scientific experiments, but TCM "practitioners" aren't willing to. Why do it when you can sell moth fungus for $8k?
- rnreekez, on 11/30/2007, -1/+8"Tibetan medicine holds that the moths, which are eaten by a fungus while burrowed in the ground then pushed to the surface as the fungus attempts to spore, will fight everything from cancer to AIDS."
Ask and ye shall receive....well...ask and we shall tell ye what ye want to hear. I also have some penis enlargement beetles if you are interested. - jonmlm, on 11/30/2007, -0/+6the peaceful tibetans waged a CIA backed insurgency against the chinese in the 50's. they actually trained in the rockys in colorado. annnd the dalai lama had slaves, and torture was common practice of serfs and slaves and so on and so on. there's a good episode of ***** that touches on it.
- pseudononymist, on 11/30/2007, -0/+6In Tibet they have fungus moths, in the West we have truffles... let's be honest, people will pay lots of money for some really crazy ***** sometimes.
- JonGalt, on 11/30/2007, -0/+6I see no difference. A rock on your finger or a dead moth in your coffee? Both just as pointless.
- Gryph1, on 11/30/2007, -2/+7Tibetan Buddhism is a religion. They don't believe in a supreme being but they do have beliefs. A supreme being is not necessary for religion.
- Nossie, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5it's digg... what else did you expect? :-|
- morningmatters, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4I am pretty much sure Tibetans find Americans willing to work double overtime to pay $500 for a Hannah Montana ticket crazy too. At the end of day all this article proves is that Tibetans, like everyone else, are greedy enough to kill for an expensive commodity. This should not surprise anyone.
- inghamb87, on 11/30/2007, -4/+8dude, why don't they just buy some crack
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -2/+5Whats worse, fighting over dead moths, or green paper?
- lnf69, on 11/30/2007, -1/+4from wikipedia, but I'm sure any dictionary would agree;
A religion is a social institution that includes a set of common beliefs and practices generally held by a group of people, often codified as prayer, ritual, and religious law. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and mystic experience. The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction.
sooooooo Buddhism is a religiona.
how many lifetimes until you become less ignorant? - trakais, on 11/30/2007, -1/+4not Tibetans, Chinese!
- Codee, on 11/30/2007, -0/+3Comeback when you're finish reading this boring article. I'll just be over here, getting “totally blasted”.
- edebolt, on 11/30/2007, -2/+5This event happened in Tibet but with recent large immigrations of Han Chinese to develop the economy and settle the region then I would not be surprised if those involved were not even of Tibetian lineage.
- shreela, on 11/30/2007, -0/+3How many wounded/killed over dead dinosaurs?
- phauna, on 11/30/2007, -2/+5Tibet is full of Han Chinese now. Not many Tibetans left. Oh, and Tibet is not China.
- cambob76, on 11/30/2007, -8/+10Buddhism is not a religion. You are retarded.
- FeloniusMonkey, on 11/30/2007, -1/+3Stupid article, and extremely difficult to follow due to annoying grammar.
- kitchung, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2see my post above yours.
- ajaxfontura, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Articles9/Parenti_Ti ...
- DustPuppySnr, on 11/30/2007, -3/+5I've got some chihuahua crap on my lawn. I'm willing to part with it for only $1000 per kilo. Known to keep fanboys about 20 meters away from you.
- jonmlm, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2exactly.
- ajaxfontura, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2It's also worth pointing out that all of these complaints are about the exiled ruling class (dalai lama & clergy types) and not tibetans in general.
- shamanlife, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2hehe, exactly. I wonder about the thousands that die from western medicine in the west. What is that percentage?
- flip, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2No actually there's been quite a bit of research on it and it's full of bioactive "drugs" that do in fact have a wide range of effects. Any use in Chemotherapy or HIV infection would be for both it's immune enhancing and it steroidal like properties.
A non insect cultured mycelia source can be found at www.goldengourmetmushroom.com
here's your research: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?cmd=Searc ...
Enjoy. - shamanlife, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2Agreed.
- edebolt, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1that's a good post..you don't need to be nasty about contributing. Just state your viewpoint. What city did you live in with 80% muslim in Tibet?
- shamanlife, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1@inf69: lol. It still holds true, it will take some a long time to understand that which they cannot see. Don't believe everything someone tells you, just because wiki says so, doesn't make it real, one should only believe what you can experience. Buddhism is not a religion, it is a set of ideas. Ideas that for some can seem complicated or alien, but all new ideas appear odd at first. Just reading about Buddhism may not be enough, go speak to an actual Buddhist, that may help you a bit.
- IAMABOMINATION, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1Thank you. Not as interesting as I thought it was going to be =-/
