- BufordT, on 09/04/2008, -19/+51"Droughts. Hurricanes. Floods. Monsoons. Disappearing coastlines. These are just a few of the weather effects we’re currently experiencing and will see more of in the future, courtesy of global warming."
Correction, these are just a few of the weather effects we're currently experiencing, have always experienced, and will always experience courtesy of a climate that has always been and will always be changing. - inactive, on 09/03/2008, -17/+48This is the reason I fart into a bag and recycle it
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -13/+33Obviously no flooding ever occurred before the Industrial Revolution.
- reyalp, on 09/04/2008, -5/+25First, you must accurately predict the weather 48 hours from now.

- BrettFromTibet, on 09/04/2008, -15/+34It's a shame and I don't think this is a hoax or over-dramatized... I live in Boulder, Colorado right near CU and the National Climate and Atomospheric Research (NCAR) center and I talk with scientists and Ph.D. and they all seem to take it pretty seriously.
- KSUdesigner, on 09/04/2008, -7/+24They also get paid huge sums of money to prove it ISN'T happening. They aren't paid based on which conclusion they come to, they are paid for doing the research necessary to come to a conclusion, any conclusion.
- dannyboy3020, on 09/04/2008, -11/+25I'll take a scientist's word over yours, thanks.

- DarkBlueAnt, on 09/04/2008, -8/+16Listen, I'm a conservative and don't want to change my way of life. Therefore, I will state a bunch of skewed facts to fool myself into thinking the eviornment is in good shape. The world is health. There's no such thing as CFC's. The very idea that O^3 can be broken down is absurd. Chemical formulas don't even exist. It's all liberal media!
- coyote1284, on 09/04/2008, -0/+8I'd like to look at that propertly in AZ with the view of the ocean.
- homercles337, on 09/04/2008, -3/+11Precisely what i was thinking. However, i have spent some time reading the research and it is very compelling. Oddly, i have found that all naysayers have an agenda--an agenda of FUD.
- sremick, on 09/04/2008, -1/+9Wow, when did Digg become overrun by people smart enough to think for themselves and resist the BS of the GOP, but gullible and lazy enough to insist global warming is a hoax?
*sigh*
Must so many Digg users so willingly let themselves fit into the "lazy" nerd stereotype? Don't you see the hypocrisy of condemning Republicans for the same mindset? "Believe whatever conveniently allows me to exert the least amount of effort day to day, even if it conflicts with other things I believe or have said, or flies in the face of common sense."
Among scientists... ACTUAL scientists... there's about as much "debate" about global warming as there is about evolution. There are piles and piles of evidence and facts, and all the supposed "facts" by the deniers have already been thoroughly debunked. Look.. the earth is round, evolution is real, we actually DID land on the moon, and global warming is happening. Can we move on now and do something about it? Please? - freezerburn666, on 09/04/2008, -1/+8lies. that disgusting smog hovering over cities is normal.
- wunksta, on 09/04/2008, -2/+9funny how they are supported by oil industries isnt it? not to mention completely contrary to what they state on the page

- wunksta, on 09/04/2008, -3/+9increasing substances into the environment ALWAYS has an effect
it may or may not be causing climate change, but you have to admit that it must have some kind of effect - coyote1284, on 09/04/2008, -0/+6with "in bed".
- Wakkyweed, on 09/04/2008, -6/+12@thejamabides
Real scientists are not payed based on what the conclusion of their research is. Only greedy ***** corporate shills, like the ones that are hired by the oil companies, do things like that. I know which ones you've been listening to. - usingpond, on 09/04/2008, -9/+14Hey guys. I don't like to look up information about anything really. I'm personally more comfortable with dismissing mentally disturbing theories and hypotheses. I find that life is much easier to live when you don't think there's any consequences to anything.
It's astounding to me that people in here will ridicule creationists for not looking up facts about anything, but will then go ahead and make retarded statements about climate change/global warming. I don't swing either way, but that's because I haven't given either side enough research. As I suspect of most people on here. - kolyana, on 09/04/2008, -2/+7citation needed.
- zreed, on 09/04/2008, -3/+8You can't really be ignorant about the fact there is proven science out there stating that the earth is under going un-natural changes, right now. I mean we all use the internet, I honestly wasn't expecting to see so many dumb ignorant comments in this post. *shame.*
- gordonj, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5Hmm, let's see...let me know which of the following statements you disagree with:
-CO2 absorbs and retains more heat than air.
-The atmosphere is not infinite.
-Since the industrial revolution the world population of humans has risen about 10-fold.
-Since the industrial revolution, CO2 levels in the atmosphere have risen by 40%.
-Since the industrial revolution, hundreds of billions of metric tons of CO2 have been released into the air by humans.
-The level of CO2 in the atmosphere is now at least at a 650,000 year high.
-The average world temperature has risen by over 1 degree Celsius since the industrial revolution.
And you think it's impossible that anthropogenic climate change could be real? Please demonstrate your reasoning and evidence for that claim. - FeloniusMonkey, on 09/04/2008, -1/+6I broke the dam.

Why point to a secondary effect when the purported primary cause is readily measurable?
http://skepticalscience.com/Determining-the-long-t ... The sun has shown a slight cooling trend over the last 3 decades. Not only is the sun not contributing to global warming, it has had a slight, long term cooling effect.
(There are numerous primary, peer-reviewed sources referenced at that link to support that statement)
Mars's orbit is more eccentric than Earth's and its climate is dominated by planet-wide dust storms.
Mars doesn't have oceans, doesn't have rain, has an atmosphere entirely different from Earth's, and has huge dust storms that noticeably impact the climate. Since there is no rain, the dust lingers in the atmosphere. The dust storms produce large year-to-ffyear variability, large regional changes, and can cause albedo changes by exposing or covering up dark underlying rocks.

- renagadex2, on 09/04/2008, -5/+9Youre missing the point you cockblaster. Even if it is not man made, it is definitely exacerbated by man. AND EVEN IF we didn't do ***** to the environment, there is still a huge ecological problem going on in the world that we must help ameliorate.
- wunksta, on 09/04/2008, -0/+4ah jesus
ok look, do you want an explanation on how the worlds climate works? global warming never meant "the whole world getting warmer", its a misnomer in that regard
the original meaning was that a disportionate amount of heat was being applied in certain areas to have an affect on global climate
the worlds climate is mainly regulated by the distribution of temperature through the thermohaline cycle of the oceans current. raising the temperature in some areas can lead to a disruption of that cycle and lead to certain areas like scotland, whos had very pleasant weather as opposed to new yorks weather, start changing drastically because they no longer receive the same temperature they received from the ocean current.
the global climate is a lot more complex than just "raising the temperature". any change has a lot of complex reactions and feedback loops that cause it to change regional climates ranging from a complete turnabout to simply more extreme of the present situation such as a place going from cold to hot or a dry place becoming more dry.
the world isnt static but relies on a variety of complex relationships of variables that affect many different places differently - inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+4#9 jupiters moons

- kolyana, on 09/04/2008, -6/+10If you need help finding the facts, watch Fox News; they will totally set you straight and reassure us all that Climate Change is a myth, trees actually LIKE carbon monoxide in copious amounts, and the sort of pollution that you see in China has no effect on the rest of the world or, indeed, China itself.
Everything is cool people. After all, God made us, and God wouldn't let us harm the planet, so whatever we do must be okay by him, and therefore not harmful at all!!! - Wakkyweed, on 09/04/2008, -4/+8And anyone who looks at the facts and continues to disbelieve is an utter tool.

- VigRoco, on 09/04/2008, -8/+12no, it's a matter of hard science. look it up for yourself.
temperatures rose nearly 22 degrees in just 50 years at the end of the last ice age...so how do you explain that when the Earth had no intrusive human presence?
http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2008-06/uoc ... - jikmo, on 09/04/2008, -3/+7As a university student who's attended talks by and talk to some professors who are studying global warming, I don't get this impression at all.
Most scientists are bookish types who are content to sit with a book or have conversations about the theory and data without worrying much about the outside world. Most of them don't worry about the government any more than the average person. Scientists are NOT government employees. They are employed by the university/research foundation/whatever. Most of them vocally disagree with the body that employs them about some aspect of the management of their department. The government is even more removed from what they are doing.
I won't disagree that there might be some bias there, but if there is, it's because most scientists are also environmentalists to an extent, not because of the government. - jikmo, on 09/04/2008, -0/+4That's one degree ON AVERAGE. That means that some places have gone up 10 degrees while others have gone down 5. The problem with global warming isn't as small as everything just getting a bit hotter. The problem is the chaos it causes in weather.
Global warming is a terrible name. It's a global problem, but the global effect isn't that everywhere is getting hotter. -
