- inactive, on 10/18/2008, -1/+29Who said duct tape couldn't fix everything? How about they try it on the economy as well?
- AmyVernon, on 10/18/2008, -0/+14What about if there's a tornado? Can you tape yourself to your house and not blow away?
- alapoet, on 10/18/2008, -0/+12That's gonna take a LOT of tape.
- willcc, on 10/18/2008, -0/+7Unrelated, but 3M makes 'Thinsulate' gloves. And by the gods they are comfy.
- CatsAreGods, on 10/18/2008, -0/+7airplane use = huge liability problem
- inactive, on 10/18/2008, -0/+7Yes except if the entire house blows away
- waxcrash, on 10/18/2008, -2/+8I find in eerily strange that a company that makes a product to help with environmentally friendly technology is such a huge polluter of our environment. They have dumped so much crap in the Mississippi River, plus millions of pounds of pollutants into the air.
- S5S5S5, on 10/18/2008, -0/+5Wind Tape! Why didn't I think of that?
- divinediva, on 10/18/2008, -0/+5There’s plenty of manufacturing and product tweaking that will occur as wind-energy developers strive to generate more power that 3M wants to be part of.
- Prismatic, on 10/18/2008, -0/+5Just find a shack out in a field with some pipes that go 30 or so feet into the ground and use a leather belt to tie off.
- Torx, on 10/18/2008, -0/+53M makes awesome automotive detailing products.
- whatever01, on 10/18/2008, -0/+4It's not that the wind blows... it's what the wind blows. Tape won't do you much good if you're hit by a flying Volvo.
(apologies to Ron White). - inactive, on 10/18/2008, -0/+4I thought it was from the Onion
- bloodinmystool, on 10/18/2008, -0/+4For some reason, 3M is one of my favorite companies. They seem to have a monopoly on employing creative lab geeks.
- subterfuge, on 10/18/2008, -0/+3$850 billion worth of tape
- NeptuneZen, on 10/18/2008, -0/+3Go buy the stuff they put over touch screens. It was originally developed to protect helicopter blades.
- jpqsat, on 10/18/2008, -0/+3I don't know why they don't advertise this as light aircraft propeller protectant. We use regular vinyl tape to protect the edge of composite propeller to protect against rain abrasion and runway gravel and it's very good, but need to be replace every month. Tape like this one would be perfect.
- liljay2k, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2Yea, but what about the bats?
- RBAnderson, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2I have to agree. I used to live in a town that had a 3M plant in it. They have REAL problems in terms of pollution control, both air and water. They've been making some effort to clean it up in the last 10 years or so, but it's still a problem.
- Phen0m24, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2Supposedly the makers of Invisible Shield - that film on some of our iPods and Zunes (yes my Zune has it, dang it) make this stuff that coats helicopter rotor blades.. Wouldn't that be tougher? Patent battle!! Fight fight fight!
- dsmx, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2If your house blows away you didn't use enough tape.
- gerwinnz, on 10/18/2008, -2/+4haha well metaphorically speaking they are. the bail out is the duck tape, a temporary fix. and when it comes off things are gonna be very messy.
- RealmDown, on 10/18/2008, -1/+2We're gonna need a bigger roll too.
- collinong, on 10/19/2008, -0/+1I'm pretty sure the makers of Invisible Shield actually just buy sheets of 3M's helicopter blade protector at wholesale bulk prices and cut it up into small pieces that they sell to us at 1000x markup. I doubt Invisible Shield actually has exotic materials research and manufacturing facilities of their own.
- dsmx, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1Do they make enough tape to fix the economy?
- rollerblader, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1Kenickie, got any Scotch tape?
- inactive, on 10/19/2008, -0/+1Duct tape and bailing wire will fix anything!
- slashdotordigg, on 10/18/2008, -0/+0could they make scretch free cars? got scratch? just replace the tape!
- randumbusername, on 10/18/2008, -1/+1what the prediction on when the greenies will label the green business sector with the same labels used against oil companies?
- wayneamartin, on 10/18/2008, -0/+0it is just speed tape.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_tape
and to think we call that innovation - kingkoyle, on 10/18/2008, -0/+0put whistles on the blades LMAO Boom-De-Ah-Dah!!
- slashdotordigg, on 10/18/2008, -0/+0We already have that technology. just tape one over legislation that allows rich people to borrow trillions of dollars from the Chinese and terrorists.
