- danjohadley, on 12/20/2008, -1/+35That picture made me think one thing.....giant bubble wrap.
- kinneas666, on 12/20/2008, -0/+18Very interesting.
It's refreshing to see new/(old?) technology applied in an industry that seems more often than not to resist it wholly.
I personally feel we are way beneath our potential in agricultural sciences.
The promises of agricultural high technology, like aeroponics and energy efficient hydroponics, are the key to a happy human race in a world where our population is increasing exponentially. - sdellboy, on 12/21/2008, -1/+14That picture was just the tip of the iceberg...
- Mujokan, on 12/21/2008, -1/+10Well, during the Iraq war we bought bumper stickers to put on our SUVs. That's kind of a sacrifice.
- ohcoaster, on 12/21/2008, -0/+8lumberjanes. lol
- Kylde, on 12/21/2008, -0/+8I remember that all the houses in our street had stubs on the garden walls where the iron fencing had been removed in the war to be recycled into plane parts
- rodgerdodger5, on 12/21/2008, -0/+6Victory Gardens - This old film is just awesome! - Very cool how they use the flowers to decide when to plant.
http://www.archive.org/details/victory_garden - BullHunter, on 12/21/2008, -0/+6Imagine the Greenhouse effect in that market garden!
- madrigaelic, on 12/21/2008, -0/+5Yeah, you're right. It's a new blog and for some reason I hadn't turned them off. Thanks for the reminder. They're off.
- WiretapStudios, on 12/21/2008, -0/+4Lettuce all rejoice that they have turned over a new leaf.
- cygnus2112, on 12/21/2008, -2/+6Article was painful to read. But why would one boil lettuce?
- madrigaelic, on 12/20/2008, -4/+7You know what I've been into recently? Saltwater crops for the new deserts of a post-climate change world. Just saying.
- madrigaelic, on 12/21/2008, -0/+3It's crazy: that was the point. Small-scale climate alteration, like the vineyards that have these crazy fans that are supposed to keep their vines from frosting. Except I think these actually work.
- inactive, on 12/21/2008, -3/+6i think they could have made one big green house for 250000 letuce
- jgubbe, on 12/22/2008, -0/+2Just did, and I can still say that everything is better on weed, man.
- jaredls, on 12/21/2008, -1/+3I had a history professor from Richmond, VA tell me that efforts to collect tin cans and aluminum cans during WWI were not utilized for the war effort, instead they ended up in the bottom of the ocean. It was just to expensive to recycle it. - Don't know if this is true for your iron fences as well). The effort, however, was successful in getting the general public feel like they were making a difference. I remember thinking that those people who collected cans got fooled and prob would be mad, but that's the wrong way to think about it.
During war collective efforts such as these help to lift people's spirits and brings a nation together through their sacrifice. I think that's something that is missing from today's wars. And no, going to the mall and spending money is not putting up a sacrifice neither is putting up a bumper sticker or wearing an American Flag pin. Perhaps that is why nobody has really cared to get the troops out (or at least not as many people have). - Mujokan, on 12/21/2008, -0/+2Overgrow the government!
- psychosatori, on 12/21/2008, -0/+2As the owner of a small cutting edge 'ponics corporation I whole heartily agree with you.
- Mujokan, on 12/21/2008, -1/+3What was Sylvia Plath complaining about then?
- kdor, on 12/21/2008, -0/+2Cloches have been around for centuries. I saw them in this country at exhibits in Williamsburgh.
- sinkhead, on 12/21/2008, -0/+2Though I am English, this is mostly true.
I mean, I personally don't boil everything, but I know some people who do, and I *could* boil everything if I wanted to. - insanebrain, on 12/21/2008, -3/+4Jesus ***** christ. . those snapshot popups are horrible and very irritating.
- wertach, on 12/21/2008, -0/+1Spam
- wertach, on 12/21/2008, -0/+1Thank You for the link!
- aforsberg, on 12/21/2008, -0/+1haha I can just imagine someone stomping on all of them while people are trying to work screaming 'POP! POP! POP!'
- inactive, on 12/21/2008, -2/+3they boil every ***** thing in england.
in scotland, they deep fry everything - phenom2k7, on 12/21/2008, -1/+2Fascinating read. I wonder if anyone has tried this method with marijuana.
- kinneas666, on 12/23/2008, -0/+1LOL at reducing population. Good one.
- HotSaucePanCake, on 12/22/2008, -0/+1Why is there some lady biting her finger nail, trying to be sexy, trying to sell me a Digg hoodie on the right side of this page.
Digg Fail - earlvanze, on 12/21/2008, -0/+1Pop Pop Pop
- 1smartguy, on 12/21/2008, -0/+0Yea, lets just ignore any ideas on how to reduce population and keep brainstorming ideas of how to cope with overpopulation.
- whiskeythief, on 12/21/2008, -0/+0Article says the lettuce was boiled and eaten.
Boiled lettuce? Really? Brits? - 1smartguy, on 12/21/2008, -0/+0Lettuse, turnip, and pea.
- JMorrison2103, on 12/22/2008, -0/+0I think they assumed it would become a target of aerial raids if it looked like a building that was housing crops.
- H2SO4, on 12/21/2008, -1/+1"That lettuce must have felt like the most special lettuce in the whole world, at least until it was plucked and boiled and eaten. "
Who the hell boils Lettuce? - WiretapStudios, on 12/21/2008, -2/+1Yeah at least in America if they boil it, then they deep fry it and dip it in chocolate...
- crossmr, on 12/21/2008, -3/+2take your astro-turfing elsewhere..
- pyromcr, on 12/21/2008, -4/+3that is sort of pointless, it is probably cheeper to build one big greenhouse instead of a billion little ones...

What is Digg?
