- tiresias2, on 07/18/2009, -2/+272Just how incompetent are Indian conservation efforts? This should be a national embarrassment for them...
- WordsnCollision, on 07/18/2009, -0/+122Idiots - they don't get the "conserve" part of conservation and now they've poached themselves out of a livelihood.
- InTheUnion, on 07/18/2009, -0/+116They should introduce poacher poachers = problem solved
- inactive, on 07/18/2009, -8/+121Well hey, look at the bright side of things. Tiger poaching has gone down 100% in that area.
- droopypooper, on 07/18/2009, -2/+103Humans suck.
- outfed, on 07/18/2009, -9/+95Hey you, should, quite possibly, learn, to use your, commas in the, correct place...
- tgc1, on 07/18/2009, -1/+81I'm moving up the ladder and wondering what the Poachers motivation is. How much are they being paid to look the other way? Who the ***** is buying these animal carcasses? The Chinese? Are they still practicing 3000 year old medicine and vague beliefs about increasing libido by eating dried tiger penis? What the ***** man. Get out of the ***** stone age. Who is buying the pelts? Some rich ***** prick who wants the skin on his floor as a rug? What about the dried bones and the organs? The black market for this ***** is disgusting. Absolutely malevolent. This is the same bunch of idiots who demand shark fin soup and we end up with millions of sharks floating around in the oceans with no god damned fins. What the *****!?
I have nothing against the Chinese, and I doubt it's only them who drive the black market for this stuff. Actually i'm quite fascinated by the culture, but one aspect of it -- that of old rituals and certain old Chinese medicine (that which emphasizes the use of animals on the verge of extinction) drives me ***** insane.
Look at the picture in the article and tell me that isn't a beautiful animal. What the ***** is wrong with these people?! Sure you can't cuddle with big Tiger there 'cause it'd probably kill you in 5 seconds, but come on. That is one of the most majestic creatures on earth. If they disappear i'm going to be REALLY ***** pissed off.
Have some ***** respect. - drmobutu, on 07/18/2009, -9/+89What a disgrace...but, then again, there ain't no wild grizzly bears, in California, anymore, either...
- worldorder, on 07/18/2009, -0/+62The poachers probably paid everyone more than what they make in 5 years. Which probably isn't much more than a few grand each.
- doublefelix, on 07/18/2009, -0/+58That's some good preservation there Lou.
- Jhiaxuz, on 07/18/2009, -3/+60He's stuck on Captain Kirk mode.
- NuclearIsShit, on 07/18/2009, -0/+52I hope that there are some scientists saving the blood samples of all the endangered animals in the world. So one day, when the world is a more stable place, we could clone these animals and release them again in the wild.
Good luck to the rest of the tigers. - sonnybobiche, on 07/18/2009, -0/+42There was a great article about Dharmendra Khandal in National Geographic Adventure (although I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that most people don't even look at print magazines anymore). He is a conservationist in India that hunts down and arrests these poachers. He's been getting a good bit of grief from the people who run the "preserves" because he's better at his job than they are.
- enantiodromia, on 07/18/2009, -3/+42Maybe we can send the Minute Men away from our border with Mexico, and have them defend the last remaining tigers instead.
They still get to shoot brown people, and the rest of the world would call them heroes, so it's really win-win for everyone. - buzzby09, on 07/18/2009, -3/+39I hate people... :(
- cristinamk, on 07/18/2009, -0/+32absolutely disgusting....
they should be so embarrassed...
they were 24, only 24...
so sad - visionaryIX, on 07/18/2009, -5/+35And learn what double negatives are.
- Arkyll, on 07/18/2009, -2/+32=*(
- meed, on 07/18/2009, -0/+29Words can not describe this loss. Yeah those tiger would eat your face off, but what happens when the only tigers left are in zoos and private collections? It will be a sad day once the tiger goes the way of the dodo bird.
Lions and bears, Oh My. simply doesn't have the same ring. - xGrill, on 07/18/2009, -7/+33@bjornski
Actually, poachers killed the tigers. - Protonz, on 07/18/2009, -0/+26I would support peta if they had a violent slightly psychotic wing that took on this kind of issue.
- InTheUnion, on 07/18/2009, -0/+26The word 'poach' sounds funny now
- teazalamode, on 07/18/2009, -0/+26HEY ***** POACHERS! EAT ***** AND DIE!
- chobo2, on 07/18/2009, -1/+26But who would poach the poachers once the "poacher poachers" kill off all the poachers?
- copypastry, on 07/18/2009, -1/+2550 thousand dollar bounty on poachers.
problem solved - Jhiaxuz, on 07/18/2009, -1/+23When you start doing Global History in grade 9, you'll understand.
Someday. - parmindersingh, on 07/18/2009, -1/+23I am an Indian and am ashamed to hear this. Despite the current PM taking personal intrest in saving the tiger, little has been done on the grass roots levels. This goes a lot deeper than just the poacher problem. Corruption being the foremost problem. Another problem is the dwindling forest cover and limited resources for them. The result being the tigers entering the nearby villages in search of food. This has also lead to a rise in tiger attacks on human lately.
- GnomeProfit, on 07/18/2009, -2/+24Pathetic.
It's interesting that a nature preserve sprung up around Chernobyl b/c humans were more dangerous than radiation. I really hope we don't have to nuke regions just to be able to protect wildlife. :*( - bjornski, on 07/18/2009, -1/+22He's interfering with their bribes to look the other way. That's why they hate him.
- bjornski, on 07/18/2009, -16/+36So basically.....capitalism killed the tigers.
Great!
I know, let's privatize EVERYTHING! The market knows best! If it doesn't make a profit, it's not worth doing! Money talks!
Right? - hacknslash64, on 07/18/2009, -0/+18'The authorities have recently transported two female tigers to Panna from another nearby tiger park, and sought permission from the central administration to bring in four more, two of them males.'
Seems like pouring water through a sieve - kelmaster1, on 07/18/2009, -3/+20That's nothing, we Americans were able to kill off 40-100million Bison down to about 50... Yep, our society is pretty good a killing off *****.
- ZenMojo, on 07/18/2009, -0/+16You mean the ALF?
- MissMeagan, on 07/18/2009, -1/+17The headline alone made me sick to my stomach.
Why do people not value life..no matter what form it takes?
Such a great loss... :(
-M - InTheUnion, on 07/18/2009, -0/+13More like pouring water through a hoop.
- kelmaster1, on 07/18/2009, -0/+13there was no irony
- inactive, on 07/18/2009, -0/+12So do the rich ***** that buy the skins.
Australia has one, Grollo. Walk into his place and look at the entrance floor...
***** even admitted he wanted to get one before they went extinct. - deathandtaverns, on 07/18/2009, -1/+13excellent customer service
- kelmaster1, on 07/18/2009, -0/+11I hate the rich people creating the demand even more.
- worldorder, on 07/18/2009, -3/+14
- Algebra, trigonometry and calculus also orignated from India. Quadratic equations were used by Sridharacharya in the 11th century. The largest numbers the Greeks and the Romans used were 106 whereas Hindus used numbers as big as 10*53 ( i.e 10 to the power of 53 ) with specific names as early as 5000 B.C. during the Vedic period. Even today, the largest used number is Tera: 10*12( 10 to the power of 12 ).
The world's first university was established in India - FunApi, on 07/18/2009, -0/+11A lot of these "poachers" are not Indians, but from Nepal or Bangladesh. Remember 40 % of India's population are vegetarian, so I don't think they want to kill animals for medicine etc.
- TheWalt, on 07/18/2009, -4/+15Did you know that Bison are doing pretty ***** well lately? There are actually ranches, yes, ranches of Bison roaming the Great Plains at the moment. Thank God capitalism stepped in, made the animals worth something to us, and saved the species.
- denizen42, on 07/18/2009, -0/+11Tigers would!
- fragMasterFlash, on 07/18/2009, -2/+13Sadly, this was predicted long ago...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUA0ai0XxRU - Craig304958, on 07/18/2009, -1/+11bjornski - I believe in the US, the Supreme Court has ruled that money is equivalent to free speech where political "donations" are concerned. Money talks, indeed.
- bjornski, on 07/18/2009, -2/+12The next generation has already learned our values.
They've been taught that money is more important than anything else.
Go market! - zmower, on 07/18/2009, -0/+9No tigers, no tourism. Ho ho ho.
http://www.indianholiday.com/india-wildlife-holida ... - DeanoXD, on 07/18/2009, -0/+9Truly sad.
- shinidoll, on 07/18/2009, -0/+9Shame shame shame!!! Height of corruption in India! The officials and poachers should be punished severely.

I hate these stupid eco-sites that take news and add their own little 'witty' opinion to it. -
