- banmaster, on 03/28/2008, -12/+4Yeah, coz people in other countries don't use staples right?
- Nearoschyth, on 03/29/2008, -1/+6No, because they only ship free staplers to the U.S.

- Hobofuzz, on 03/28/2008, -1/+5Well ***** that, then!
- jasdf, on 03/28/2008, -2/+3They don't care, they still get the marketing data that they need. And I highly doubt that you will remember not to buy a Swingline stapler in 5 years whey you need one.
- InnerBlueAbyss, on 03/28/2008, -1/+21Im still waiting for my free IBM 32mb flash drive......-sniff-
- secrity, on 03/29/2008, -0/+9They are big enough and their server was Digg proof -- they may be good for the stapler. I wonder about the slant on the marketing data though, geeks are going to be the predominant responders. How many geeks use letter moisteners? They forgot a flashlight in the list.
- Lewie, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2I added flashlight, first aid kit, pain reliever. But yes, there will be many pliers and screw drivers in those tool kits. :)
- blahtastic, on 03/29/2008, -0/+11From the bottom of the survey:
"Rules: Limit one entry per person and per household. WE WILL NOT SHIP THE FREE SAMPLE TO A PO BOX ADDRESS. Entry per household. I think we have a decent chance of getting our staplers. - Pillage, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1I bet that you will get a mini stapler like the one that came in the office space boxset.

- jaalin, on 03/28/2008, -1/+20bury so less people will do the survey, increasing my chances of receiving one
- ZippyV, on 03/29/2008, -1/+4I buried the story for bankrupting Swingline by posting it on Digg.
- AdmiralAcbar, on 03/28/2008, -15/+11Only available in the US.

- Lewie, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Have the masses already forgotten our ongoing struggle against this talent-stifling giant? How long until you forget the freedoms that are being taken away from you, which you hold so dear? Look up "conspicuous consumption", and see if you can apply it to events that are happening now.
Dugg for the good war.

- blahtastic, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Don't forget to fill in the state for delivery. It looks filled in already and I missed it at first.
- Pedlya, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1I think he means what happens to me, when I hit Submit, it just keeps loading and it just times out.
- adrianmonk, on 03/29/2008, -0/+0But what he said was "not letting me", like there's some kind of bridge troll inside the server actively preventing him from doing it.
In case you can't tell, "it's not letting me" is one of my pet peeves. Those words nearly always take the place of real information that could be used to actually understand (and thus solve) the issue.
- adrianmonk, on 03/29/2008, -0/+0But what he said was "not letting me", like there's some kind of bridge troll inside the server actively preventing him from doing it.

- DrummerAndrew, on 03/28/2008, -0/+11The joke? It probably helps if you're American, but you only have to have an address in the US to get the stapler. I suggest sending them to random people.

- choopie911, on 03/28/2008, -3/+11Yeah...theres tons....
- banmaster, on 03/28/2008, -5/+6What do you mean "another" ?
Don't you mean "At last, a benefit of being American". - Wargalas, on 03/28/2008, -6/+8Nope, I meant what I said.
I don't have roving death squads, I live better then 90% of the rest of the world and I'm middle class, I have the freedom to say and worship in any way that I so choose without fear of repercussions.
You should get off of the anti-American bandwagon and count your blessings.
When was the last time you were threatened by a neighbor because you were a different religion or skin color then them?
Exactly.- SpeedStix, on 03/29/2008, -3/+5"When was the last time you were threatened by a neighbor because you were a different religion or skin color then them?"
Wow...... what a naive comment. You must live in an all white neighborhood. How do you explain Ku Klux Klan? They are American, I'm sure they love black people. How about Police brutality and hate crimes against religions and race?
Also you don't have the freedom to say what you want, if it is something that greatly threatens the government or the US army, you just watch how Free your speech is.
- adrianmonk, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1No country is perfect. Sure, there are racial tensions in the US, but there are racial tensions in every country.
And about free speech, obviously there are limits in the US, just like there are everywhere. Any country is going to respond negatively if someone makes threatening marks about government leaders. The US is pretty big on free speech, though: for example, in Germany, you can't deny the Holocaust, whereas in the US, you can say that all you want. As the phrase goes, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
- adrianmonk, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1No country is perfect. Sure, there are racial tensions in the US, but there are racial tensions in every country.
- nardo510, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1he has a point. I mean with the whole free speech thing, but I love being Californian.
- mystaker, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2On the other hand, have you seen the economy recently? We're doing okay now, but we're going to be in trouble here really soon.
- Lewie, on 03/29/2008, -1/+2Only because you're probably: 1) Male 2) White 3) Protestant (not crucial to my theory)
Be black, or a woman, and you'd probably be singing a different tune (glass ceiling, paid less for the same work, harassment...)- Wargalas, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Oh *****. If you're being paid less for the same work, go to a different company that pays better. If you're black/woman/anything else and you're still bitching about how things are "unfair" then it's YOUR FAULT you're in the situation you're in now.
Nothing is preventing you from going to college and getting a decent degree and nice paying job. Nothing is preventing you from opening your own business and making it rich.
No one likes a whiner "oh poor me! It's not because I'm lazy or mouth off to my boss! It's because I'm a woman or I'm black!".
Suck it up.
- Wargalas, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Oh *****. If you're being paid less for the same work, go to a different company that pays better. If you're black/woman/anything else and you're still bitching about how things are "unfair" then it's YOUR FAULT you're in the situation you're in now.

- crazyhorse13, on 03/28/2008, -2/+74Lol they'll be giving out a lot more staplers than initially planned I think.
- petard, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1No they will probably just give away the staplers signed up for before it reached digg.
- adrianmonk, on 03/29/2008, -0/+0I don't think they can do that. Their web server is still serving the page that is making the offer, so they are still offering it. If they want to stop offering it, they need to take down the page. They can't offer it and then not honor their offer just because they find it inconvenient to do what they said they would.

- theAlice, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3You really should go a few pages in the YouTube search results for "Rick Roll" if you plan on Rolling Digg.. - Lewie, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1That was weak. You need to at least set it up, like

- DrummerAndrew, on 03/28/2008, -0/+5If you're not in the US, but just love filling out surveys, I suggest sending them to random people in the US. I did that to a friend once, oddly, it was a small toolset. He came to my house kind of excited one day, "Dude! I just got this 12 piece tool set in the mail! I never ordered it or anything." Though you won't have that joy... except knowing that somebody laughed at the random stapler delivery.

- jaalin, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2it's been on slickdeals/fatwallet for a couple days already, and now digg jumps on... i'm guessing upwards of 50,000 people will do the survey - we're entering microsoft freebie territory here...
- secrity, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1I guess that they must want the volume. If they haven't pulled it after being on slickdeals, digg shouldn't be a problem.
- t0ny, on 03/29/2008, -0/+3Microsoft still owes me a 64mb flash drive...
- damnyooneek, on 03/28/2008, -3/+1the website says you get a free gift but nothing about a stapler
- Osirus1156, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Yes it does, it says you get a free Optima One.
- secrity, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1The list price for Optima One is higher than for the Rio Red 747.
- Osirus1156, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Yes it does, it says you get a free Optima One.

- bs0l, on 03/28/2008, -0/+12Suggest they offer it in Canada.
- writerwriter, on 03/28/2008, -9/+1As usual, some belly-button-gazing US company forgot that the whole world is NOT made up of the US and did NOT specify that the only people who get to participate in this survey and receive a free gift are people who live in the US.
Nice try.
It's called the WORLD WIDE web for a reason there genius.- Coffeedemon, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4They did specify. Its in the print at the bottom. It is small but contains valuable information - hence the saying: "always read the small print".
- bobburn, on 03/28/2008, -0/+7lol, it's a US-based company that advertises primarily to US customers. Get over yourself.
- lasarus235, on 03/28/2008, -0/+0either that or they are putting together a new product for the us and wanted the opinion of those who live there...
- magicalhobo, on 03/28/2008, -0/+0Yeah you can go back to watching your BBC online videos while I cant.
- bob12321, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2Yes, paying shipping costs to Nigeria is so cheap.
- muleskinner, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3We'll see. I filled one out at work, so maybe I can be excited one day when a package actually comes for me...
- lilricky, on 03/28/2008, -2/+1So, are fatwallet and slickdeals stories being submitted now?
- Sharky35, on 03/28/2008, -0/+5I have a drawer full of "free" staplers.
- lasarus235, on 03/28/2008, -0/+10Somebody's got a sense of humor...from their website copy for the "COLLECTORS EDITION 747® Business Stapler - Rio Red" :
* Put the "fun" back in the "functional" with Swingline´s Rio Red Stapler!
* Bold head-turning design and legendary performance - the star of any office space - franklymister, on 03/28/2008, -0/+19The survey is so they can figure out what to put in their desk tool kit: "Please let us know of other items you feel would be useful in a desk tool kit that were not included above (optional)."
If everyone could please add "toenail clippers," "desk catapult," and "travel chopsticks" to that list, I think the world may just become a better place.- cyx7, on 03/29/2008, -1/+3Wire clippers and a chamois cloth for wiping my ass.
- cidman2001, on 03/28/2008, -2/+2Dude....hook me up with a free stapler!!
