- hamandcheese, on 10/12/2007, -2/+66It's like a freaking organism.
- eggo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+58Sorry for comment abuse, but I thought I'd save you the search:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_Tech_massacre - coollettuce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+47The story of this man really opened my eyes to how awful the massacre really was.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liviu_Librescu - chedderfiend, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35information superhighway
- joeshlub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17coollettuce, that was a very good link, this guy wasn't just a professor, he was a holocaust survivor/engineer.
A professor who had survived the holocaust blocking he door from a ***** idiot so that kids could get out the windows and not get shot... I mean damn, there just isn't anything i can say about that but that people should check out that link.
You've got my thumbs up. (coollettuce, that is) - africansk8er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13While the news on tv gives so little details, you can look at Wikipedia and see the gunman's complete background, everyone who was shot, and tons of other details. As Jubalicious said, All hail the power of the internets!
- ctabone, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19ack!
edit, digg me down... - theone2Punch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11He probably just went back into the edit history to see how the page looked at different edits, then took screenshots, and put it all together in a movie.
- sTiVo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"1 person is reported to be slain."
- pingveno, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I noticed how quickly Wikipedia acted too. From what I can tell, the original Wikipedia article went up within an hour of the first news reports. As of right now it's a full article (albeit inherently incomplete) with several subarticles.
The first edit is:

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13An organism set to an awesome Unicorns song!
Woot! - gconeen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14The Unicorns FTW
- noonzie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Why would we care if you think it is a waste of time? And it is not just a webpage. It is a pretty creative way to show how an entry on Wikipedia evolves.
- eggo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Does anyone know how this video was captured? Is it just a case of refreshing the page and doing a screen cap, or was this something more sophisticated?
- 5plic3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Tuff Ghost" by The Unicorns
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@johnnyrad:
You've seen a website before? That's amazing! What did it look like? Was there a lot of different colored words and spinning pictures? - Paperthin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What is this song?
- 5plic3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's the Unicorns. I went to high school with 2 of the band members, and had a band with one of them (Alden) for a few years named Poor Alexander.
- m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When does elististpedia launch?
- Crypty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm impressed by how you can read up on *very* current news events on wikipedia. When I heard about the massacre I was in school, the first site I went to wasn't CNN or MSNBC, it was wikipedia.
- sensilife, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What was the music in that video? I know I've heard it before but I can't remember what it is for the life of me.
- JohnnyRad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah it was a magical experience!
- neplusultra, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2In cases like this Wiki is pretty much immune to bias because all the editors are just reporting what they get from mass media sources (Tv, radio, print, all conglomerated). As they report on events they're just taking transcription really.
Where Wiki really becomes useless is larger political or controversial divisive topics that are more complex and multidimensional in nature than a simple news narrative. - StayPuft, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't know, it seemed to be pretty much right on the money while I was watching the news and reading the wiki page.
- SkynetProject, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's amazing that today anything that happens is instantly chronicled forever.
- coolian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Argh, it's alive!!!
- m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2THAT ARTICLE IS PROLLY MADE UP.
HOW CAN U TRUST WIKIPEEDIA? DO WE EVEN NO THAT HAPPENT?
[/typicalonlinestupidity] - Jubalicious, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4All hail the power of the internets!
- sally00, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Wow. I want to know who actually sat down at the computer and clicked REFRESH enough times to actually do this video......
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Wiki no longer works. There are too many childish adults and right wing-left wing organization modifying the articles for their own benefit.
I'm really looking forward to the new wiki which will only be modifiable by true professionals who know what they're talking about. - interiot, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2It's possible to make a normal webpage look like this via AJAX-ish methods.... eg. the webpage refreshes itself every couple seconds without changing URLs, it would probably let you scroll around while it's changing. I thought about putting something like this up on the wikimedia toolserver.
- percent3f, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Actually, Islands are still together and are currently recording songs for a new album.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islands_(band) - erkayae, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Auto-refresh and a video capture program would've been my first guess
No idea how he would've go the bar to scroll down, though, so it must've been the old fashioned way - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3@ Burnchicago: It's Tuff Ghost by The Unicorns.
Now defunct, most members formed Islands, then they defuncted too. - oxdeltaxo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2The internet is consuming information......skynet is taking over!!!!111!!!1!
- andersontucker, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Look at the youtube info.
- burnchicago, on 10/12/2007, -18/+3Anyone know what that song is?
- JohnnyRad, on 10/12/2007, -17/+1the song in the video is awesome (tuff ghost by unicorns), otherwise this was a waste of time. I've seen a webpage before.
