- quomen, on 10/16/2007, -10/+58Wow.. Digg hates any God fearing person. (I am personally athiest), but I don't think we should be internet-lynching these people.
- Tomboys, on 10/18/2007, -2/+48This is awesome! Education is the biggest tool we have to fight poverty and crime. Great story!
- popltree2, on 10/17/2007, -4/+36Can we elect this guy President? You know, someone who actually has a clue and gives a *****?
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/17/2007, -9/+34Excellent. Exactly what GW isn't giving even a cent to. No child left behind? *****. *****.
- TechGuy206, on 10/14/2007, -2/+22If there were more people like this we wouldn't be spending billions on our prison system.
- livingwater, on 10/14/2007, -0/+15hence the "Yo"
- MagicCake, on 10/16/2007, -0/+14I watched something on TV a couple days ago about middle school kids that were having trouble with school, and life in general. It was tough to watch. Schools often don't care, and kids are mean to each other. What struck me though was how when you stop to talk to someone who seems violent or angry or disobedient, they're still good, smart kids that just need a little help.
There should be more of this; people and places that want to help. It's good to see. - haterrade, on 10/14/2007, -3/+14remember kids..you only need to be pro-life until the baby is born
- bobcrotch, on 10/14/2007, -2/+13Oh so its cool to hate boobs now too?
- SomaAddict80, on 10/13/2007, -1/+11Haha, I totally agree. Next there will be an argument about Ron Paul!
- SaladCactusKing, on 10/14/2007, -18/+28Digg: where ***** everything can be correlated to Atheism in some way.
- Tobark, on 10/14/2007, -2/+12"There are no bad kids."
Umm...yes there are. - EmperorAnton, on 10/16/2007, -44/+53Really good reminder not to give up troubled teens...after all, God doesn't make junk.
- Pirate45, on 10/14/2007, -7/+16I'll second that, EmperorAnton.
- hippykiller, on 10/16/2007, -0/+8Maybe because that statement could be used to describe most people that own computers.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -3/+11Well of course God is responsible for everything good and nothing bad! It is mankind who creates Tidal Waves and earthquakes.
- Tomboys, on 10/13/2007, -3/+11Not your problem till 5 of them gang rob you and slam you in the head with a gun 5 times to take your wallet. That's what happened to me.
And I live in one of the safest neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Education will help end poverty which will help end crime. - dojonz, on 10/14/2007, -2/+10Ahahah, exactly what I was thinking. damn.
- darkhero, on 10/13/2007, -4/+11Yo, this place is close to my house.
- ZenMojo, on 10/16/2007, -1/+8There are more people like this. They just get paid *****.
- xXRUSHXx, on 10/13/2007, -0/+7What would you rather see here? Let me guess something about the i phone.
- Aitese, on 10/13/2007, -0/+7If you listened to the young brother in the video you would hear him extol the virtues of PEER-to-PEER interaction with these kids. Yes they were messing around on Myspace and flash games...do "well off" kids not do the same? They're kids. The point of a programme like this is that they are not out on the street doing nothing and thinking of ways to entertain themselves which leads to all kinds of lawless activity. They are inside a safe environment with positive role models actively interacting with them NOT passively sitting in a library fooling around on social networking websites.
- firebhaal, on 10/13/2007, -0/+7or intelligent and articulate
- MLisa, on 10/13/2007, -0/+6This opens up a chance for you to be a real Hero then. Volunteer your time and PC talents. It sounds like a terrific program. I'll give you TWO thumbs up if you do. (I already gave you one just because I know you are thinking about it.)
- MrBelding, on 10/13/2007, -0/+6Imagine if we backed programs like these nationwide. Think of how much these small operations can positively effect our neighborhoods and communities. Never is there enough national limelight or money for great social programs such as these.
- Tomboys, on 10/13/2007, -0/+6Because you were lucky to be blessed with fortune!
- tehxen3, on 10/13/2007, -2/+8That looks like a place where a lot of young sunshine-deprived diggers should go sometimes... Computers and also irl socializing.
- Kevin108, on 10/13/2007, -2/+7Unsupervised and unparented kids do have problems in school and life in general. Private schools care about their students. Government schools don't. Because of the oppressive tax system we live under, we pay for our 2.3 kids to attend a government school whether we have them or not and whether they go there or not. The money needs to follow the kid. We need school vouchers!
- ColonelJessup, on 10/15/2007, -2/+7Read a book! Read a book! Read a ***** book!
- toasty168, on 10/15/2007, -1/+6it's all about the love. the greatest, most important thing we can give kids or any human being for that matter is our time. it is also the hardest to give because it is extremely limited. in a society where most people live for themselves, it's hard to remember this let alone to put into practice giving freely of your time to the people around you.
we're so busy trying to make ourselves better, wealthier, "happier", when what we fail to realize is that we are inherently fine the way we are and should realize the value and power of our personal time. give it freely to help those around us. doing so, i believe one would realize that the happiness we all seek so desperately is already there to simply be uncovered with the power of a generous heart. - satx, on 10/14/2007, -1/+5It's good not to give up hope in every apparently troubled youth; a lot of people can turn their lives around. But to say that there's "no bad kids" is pure hogwash. A certain percentage of people will always be sociopathic. No matter how much "love" or "unconditional support" you give them they are still going to be devoid of compassion and empathy for anyone else. These people are a relatively small part of the population (1-5% by most estimates) but they're common enough. It's good to help kids who can be helped, but let's not live in a fantasy world here.
- phmfthacim, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3and that comment would make you a ***** ron paul *****
- doronster195, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3Digging him would do fine too.
- Tomboys, on 10/13/2007, -5/+8What?
- Brabus, on 10/13/2007, -0/+3I agree, But first you have to change the way they think. Once that happens I believe everything else will fall into place.
- toxicshok, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2You don't end up a sociopath, you start one. No fixing it because its not a disease, its part of who you are.
- RoadWarriorX11, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2my first job out of college was for a program just like this working with kids on the computers, the problem was I didn;t like the way the program was ran, the woman running it was one of those loud aggressive (and sometimes condescending) large middle aged black women who liked to overpower people, and micomanage. She also liked to force her religious on people (evangelical christian of course) She was very demannding even of the volunteers and interns. I was so relieved when I found another job and left, but we need more programs like this and i;d definitely volunteer for a program like this as long as it wasnt run like the last place I worked.
- mindbullets, on 10/13/2007, -2/+4God story. Glad to see something like this on digg. Dugg
- toxicshok, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2The teachers have completely given up on students, before even knowing them. Just get through the day and get your pay check.
- theone3, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2We need to update Godwin's law to include that guy.
- phmfthacim, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2there are programs like this nation wide. they are dramatically underfunded in a way that is statistically correlated to race and class, and they are constantly losing good leadership. they are called public schools.
- jekins, on 11/02/2007, -3/+5What stance of Ron Paul's would likely cause funding to be cut to a program like this?
- tnoy, on 10/13/2007, -2/+4Its pretty hard to miss the rack on that chick. Chances are I'd still see them even if my head were in my ass.
- mindbullets, on 10/13/2007, -2/+4Actually, Bush has given a lot of funding to Faith-based organizations (FBO's) for troubled teens. Now I am sure many people would have problems with FBO's (I did at first too), but they seem to be working great and helping out a lot of kids.
- RepoOne, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2How could people disagree with this?
- phmfthacim, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2a dress code? hegemony? you've got a strong cultural bias and are missing the point.
- inactive, on 10/13/2007, -2/+4Probably depends on age, and also, kids, before they get their own ideas, are essentially their parents education.. Or something.
- KingBunny, on 10/28/2007, -2/+4Is crime caused by not enough laws and not enough jail? Are shootings caused by not having enough "gun free zone" signs or too leniant gun laws for law-abiding citizens? Is poverty and malnutrition in developing nations caused by not enough excess food dumped on them, and not enough Mickey Mouse T-shirts? Is terrorism caused by too LITTLE bombing of random countries? Does the supposed break-down of the family unit have anything at all to do with what gay people call themselves? Do people more commonly lose their freedom at the hands of an enemy, or at the hands of their own government under the guise of protecting them from an enemy? etc.. these are just off the top of my head..
Sometimes just ASKING basic questions can make the "solutions" look completely retarded. - phmfthacim, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2and you obviously have no ***** clue what that guy went through to get to the point where he was robbing people.
