- duddles, on 10/11/2007, -4/+39Wow, that's amazing. I thought it was a joke at first... who would have though cigarette ash would work for cleaning?
But how do non-smokers get ash?- Salgat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+63Doesn't even show the results(or rather a comparison).
- BlackSheep720, on 10/11/2007, -4/+53err... it's called white-out. cheap and easy.
- cr4ft, on 10/11/2007, -28/+10I hope no one takes this video seriously...might as well have someone piss in your mouth and get better results
- gldfshnpcklejar, on 10/11/2007, -3/+76That's disgusting.
- adka85, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6You can use cigarette ash for polishing silver... it takes off all the bad stuff and doesnt run the risk of leaving chemical stains.
- rtay150, on 10/11/2007, -1/+57Was I the only one who thought they were going to use a dollar bill?
- Smeed, on 10/11/2007, -1/+62Dugg for the elevator music.
- thepompano, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7How about just lemon juice and toothpaste?
- godmode, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7this method has been used for generations. but used charcoal ash instead of cigarette ash.
- rjam710, on 10/11/2007, -2/+44Under $1? Last time I checked a pack of cigarettes was at least $6.
- mbolgian, on 10/11/2007, -148/+10@rjam710: You stupid, inbred retarded redneck *****. A pack of cigarettes may cost $6, but they used the ash from ONE cigarette, maybe two. $6 divided by 20 is 30 cents per cig. So even with three cigarettes it's under $1.
It's people like you that have such a poor concept of math that have ruined this ***** world for the rest of us. People like you giving me back wrong change when I go to McDonald's for an ice cream cone.
I hope you ***** burn in hell you pathetic piece of *****. - jmah, on 10/11/2007, -0/+41@mbolgian
Woah. - HayString, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8@mbolgian
I guarantee you no "stupid, inbred retarded redneck *****" pays $6/pack for cigarettes. - SkippyDoorknob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+39This is how MacGuyver cleans his teeth
- jesstech, on 10/11/2007, -12/+1You all worry about the effects of a little lemon juice and ash on your teeth, yet you drink carbonated sodas?
I haven't had a cavity, ever. Probably because I don't drink coca-colon. - DuhStupid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18@mbolgian (#6906038)
comments like that is why i love digg. - foxymcfox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Lemon juice is also good at stripping the enamel off of your teeth. A much better, simple method is to just buy some baking soda. Either pat the baking soda onto your teeth and use a dry toothbrush to scrub it off, or apply the baking soda directly to the brush head.
...ash and lemon juice may be good for polishing other things, but I wouldn't want either one near my mouth or teeth. - h0v3rb1k3s, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6mbolgian, They don't sell cigarettes individually. Your initial outlay of cash is going to surpass the value of three cigarettes. Maybe you can use three and sell the rest. Who cares. But, hypothetically, if you don't smoke and don't know anyone who does, you'll have to eat the value of the rest of the pack.
- jesuschrysler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7@mbolgian (#6906038)
Most unnecessary overreaction ever! - iamcristian, on 10/11/2007, -10/+2Yes! mbolgian totally OWNED rjam710. That was so awesome.
- Wonkanobi, on 10/11/2007, -2/+138I'm gonna have to see evidence of that working really well before I put cigarette ashes in my mouth.
- Kabrabnzada, on 10/11/2007, -5/+212But it was in an internet video. What more proof do you need?
- Salgat, on 10/11/2007, -102/+4Ok he brushed his teeth and didn't show his teeth afterwords, no results were shown and no comparisons, WATCH IT NEXT TIME.
- Kabrabnzada, on 10/11/2007, -6/+39@Saigat
Ummm....it's call sarcasm. Ask me if you want me to break it down for you.
- charmhaste, on 10/11/2007, -1/+40I'd love some proof of this. I'm not ashing my mouth until I see some.
- Dotcommer, on 10/11/2007, -5/+57...thats what she said.
- sparc2112, on 10/11/2007, -0/+44The lemon juice will whiten your teeth but it is an an acid and is not good for your teeth. Your teeth are covered by enamel which is made up mostly (over 90%) of a substance called hydroxyapatite. That substance is easily attacked by acids making you much more susceptible to tooth decay, cavities etc... Usually cavities/decay happen because the bacteria in plaque break down sugars into acid. Hydrogen Peroxide is still probably your (cheapest) best bet for whitening IMO...
- artofwar420, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18So Hydrogen Peroxide? Is it safe?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Yeah hydrogen peroxide is safe as long as you don't swallow it. I didn't know it whitened teeth though..
- artofwar420, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Is it safe for teeth!?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/11/2007, -28/+6Yeah wouldn't harm it.. people used to use it as mouth-wash.. but usually mixed 1:1 with water.
It's just H2O2, water with an extra oxygen atom. The extra oxygen atom is released whenever it comes into contact with a metal like the iron in your blood. People usually assume that means that it is killing all the germs on your wound but that's total *****. It's pretty useless as an antibiotic. - qwertydvorak, on 10/11/2007, -3/+47@mrassman: saying something is harmless because of one extra atom is like saying o3 is just as safe to breathe because it is just o2 with an extra oxygen atom. i guess the nickname comes from where you pull your comments from.
- elimisteve, on 10/11/2007, -3/+25Watch out for CO2 -- it's just like carbon monoxide but with one more oxygen atom!
Nice try. - mrASSMAN, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10Uh. I think you misunderstood me, it actually is not harmless, it will make you vomit if you ingest it and who knows what else. I only said that it causes a harmless reaction when it releases the oxygen.. just bubbles, nothing serious that will injure you. Besides I was just mentioning the fact that the bubbling doesn't mean that germs were killed, it's just the chemical reaction with the iron minerals in the blood.
- DeathfireD, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6@mrassman - Hydrogen Peroxide draws blood out of your cut and thus draws the infection out. It doesn't actually kill the infection it only makes it less likely to spread or stay in your skin. It's also good for getting blood stains out of clothes and floor mats, keep in mind it will also stain colored things white this is why it makes teeth whiter.
- cherrick, on 10/11/2007, -8/+6@elimisteve
I know you were trying to be ironic, but CO2 is toxic and can kill you. So... watch out for CO2. - Bobombom, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4However, even if the acid is bad for your teeth, it will firstly rid of the yellow calcium substance on your teeth, because it is oxidized to a greater extent than the enamel...
This meaning that if you use it for the right period of time, you will do little damage to your teeth. Also, you will be applying fluoride to your teeth later on, so your so called damage is negligible... - akamakavely, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2the lost calcium caused by the leamon juice is compleatly regained by the toothpaste wash at the end ! pleese remember that !
- quoquo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1maybe it's a good idea to flush your mouth with milk first to close the pores in your mouth.
or just to throw in yet another substance, rumor in the mountains has it that petroleum jelly does the job too! - boredallas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5"the lost calcium caused by the leamon juice is compleatly regained by the toothpaste wash at the end ! pleese remember that !"
NO! Brushing your teeth immediately after drinking an acidic substance is horrible for tooth enamel. The acidity weakens your tooth enamel and brushing afterwards weakens it even more. Wait at least 30 min before brushing your teeth after drinking acidic drinks. - glasgowm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Theres another video on metacafe for peroxide + baking soda mix
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/370806/remove_years_of_coffee_stains_from_teeth_suss_sassy/ - stisaac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4On the subject of totally arbitrary, baseless statements about chemistry, H2O2 is totally safe -- its DIHYDROGEN MONOXIDE that we have to worry about. It's got twice as many hydrogens per oxygen as H2O2, and you know what hydrogen causes? The Hindenburg disaster.
- Roksix, on 10/11/2007, -3/+63The ghetto guide to teeth cleaning is more like it.
- stonebear, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Seen some damn fine teeth in the ghetto. Perhaps this is why? Of course, there are plenty of exceptions. In those cases, crack and meth would be the reasons why not.

- supazio, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Fun fact: Soap = lard + ash run off (run water though ash and take either what's in the water or what's left).
- Berkana, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8FYI, soap was discovered by the Greeks when fat rendered during the burning of animals sacrificed at their temples ran through the ashes at their altars. This residue eventually got washed down into the streams by rain, where women doing laundry found the substance in the run-off from their temples useful for cleaning clothes. Later on, this process was systematically reproduced using lye and rendered fat.

- Tankslap, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Unfortunately it also causes cavities in both teeth and heads.

Simply brush your teeth three times a day for 5 minutes.
Jesus people we have really gotten lazy, this is on par with that machine that shakes your fat to give you abs- xrisnothing, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15Yeah, it's me and I'll only shake your mom's fat around.
Baw chika waaa waaa - mattstooks, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You only want to brush your teeth for two minutes at a time, otherwise you'll cause your gums to recede.
There's a guy at work who smokes at least two packs a day and has ridiculous baked bean teeth. This ash/lemon juice tip was tailor-made for him.
- xrisnothing, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15Yeah, it's me and I'll only shake your mom's fat around.
- morsosky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4i dont know why everyone is going nuts about lemon giving you cavities. Yes, it will erode enamel, but only if you have chronic lemon exposure, not 1 minute. Strep mutans is constantly producing acid in your gingiva which is more toxic than lemon is
Now, i would like to see proof if this works before trying it tho - elitexero, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Like I'm going to take advice from buddy there who can't find his razor
- phronimo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1hydrogen peroxide mixed with baking powder works...smear on...let it stay on for a couple of minutes...voila...white teeth!
- stigma15, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2famous one: dugg for "viola!"
- mycologist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+50I have ugly & stained teeth, so I thought I would do everyone a service and try these methods and show you the results. I first brushed my teeth normally, then I used 1 part hydrogen peroxide & 1 part baking soda and finally I used cigarette ash and lemon juice. I brushed between each method and did not alter the photos except for cropping. Word of warning: I wanted to vomit while I did the cigarette ash method... that was nasty. I did not see any difference at all, but here are the results for you to decide:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/jillion/teeth.jpg- lothar250, on 10/11/2007, -3/+26Dude, you're an orc!!!
- mycologist, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15yeah, i know. some say vampire, etc. I'm not wealthy enough to improve my teeth to a "normal" standard, but I've never had problems with women (which was the main concern of mine) so I'm content with my choppers.
- jeet404, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think they whitened a little bit. I personally just use the whitening toothpaste and if I am going to a party I use some whitening strips to make them the extra shiny. But seeing how your upper teeth are a bit crooked I don't know how white strips will work. But good 3-5 mins of brushing and some quality paste=whitened teeth. A good smile will make give you brawny points.
- Pureeviljester, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2brave man, but i only noticed more light on it..

- iheardthat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2That was the most revolting, ***** thing I've ever seen.
- Jezper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Cigarettes, a toothbrush, toothpaste and a lemon, all for 1 dollar? That's cheap!
- zombieball, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Before anymore people decide to comment on the condition of mycologist's teeth, I would just like to thank him. I am sure we were all wishing the video had some before and after shots.
However, I am not too sure if your pictures were that helpful mycologist. I think the third picture shows whiter teeth, but it appears to be due to a variance in the flash and exposure in the picture. Would be great if you had controlled that a bit better (perhaps set your camera to manual mode, rather than auto flash). Thanks anyways though!- mycologist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14You're right, it wasn't controlled to the fullest extent I could have accomplished. I didn't, however, use the camera's flash, just the light in the bathroom. The camera was set to program auto exposure and I locked it after the first photo to 1/50 f2.7. Personally, I did not notice a significant result. I might add that even if the ash and lemon juice had slightly worked, I would never repeat that process on a daily basis. To use an analogy; it's like when cleaning your tongue and you brush right at the back near your throat and you have a gag reflex; but this is much worse and it tastes like a glass of lemonade that someone put their cigarette out in. :D Thanks for the feedback though.
- DeskFlyer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That has to taste like *****.

- astyler, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1dont do this
- Frisbinator, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2To those claiming that this is a bad method because the acidic lemon juice will somehow "dissociate" your enamel:
Brushing lemon juice on your teeth, mixed with ash (which I would think would increase the pH anyway) one time is not going to cause any noticeable damage to your Enamel. Would it be a good idea to do this often, of course not, but once or twice is not dangerous. - Qtip42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yikes what terrible advice.........baking soda works best plus you won't gag like hell and have some nasty ash in your mouth.
- xtrememotion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Was I supposed to swallow the ash?
