- BrokenDrum, on 10/12/2007, -16/+139No offence but is it fair to have children if there is a 50% chance of it occuring in the offspring?
- Darkhacker, on 10/12/2007, -14/+103I guess you could also argue if it is fair to have kids because someone a risk for cancer, or acne, or asthma, or anything? There are worse things in this world than claw-hands and given their condition they seem pretty productive. I understand 100% where you are coming from on this though. I don't plan on having kids because of some genetic problems I have myself. I am simply making the point that it seems a bit unfair to say that claw-hands are worse than some other ailments in terms of whether or not they should have kids. Especially when their are other defects with odds higher than 50% that make life a lot worse than having only two fingers.
- DuoPros, on 10/12/2007, -11/+83Personally, i dont think its fair on the children. If i wanted to have children, but there was a chance this condition would occur, i dont think i could do it.
I mean, imagine growing up with hands like that. - Venar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+69I hope you aren't eating lobster...
- wirah, on 10/12/2007, -14/+75IM EATING HERE.
goddamn - alanspach, on 10/12/2007, -7/+61Life has no guarantee of fairness, never has
- jcblitz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+57I've decided not to have children because if I have girls they run a 70% risk of developing breast cancer. So now I'll just have like 5 dogs and call them my babies.
- ippersiel, on 10/12/2007, -6/+52But can you cure claw hands? At least with Cancer and Asthma there are mesures of cure and you don't have to live with a physical stigma that will have people acting wierd around you.
- ZorboMan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+49I really don't think this condition is any claws for concern.

- missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33If I knew that I had a 50% percent chance of passing along a congenital defect like lobster hands or something similar, I might choose not to have children, but that's a personal choice. Choosing to have children who will have birth defects isn't cruel or insensitive. Ridiculing them for those defects is, as is suggesting that their quality of life is somehow subpar.
The world's not going to become a better place if we stop including people who don't fit our idea of perfection. It's going to become a better place if we do a better job of appreciating people, regardless of their flaws. - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26"Hurray, people are paying attention to me!" -- Dr. Zoidberg
...In all seriousness that sucks. - ZennZero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22I am actually amazed at how natural this deformity looks (not I did not say "normal") -- her hands are not grotesquely non-functional like many other deformities. Her hands almost look like an evolved structure.
Perhaps this is an example of some vestigial expression? For instance, I have heard of people being born with vestigial fins and tails. Quite interesting at any rate. - o2sk8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22I saw a family with this condition at the beach one time. I was unaware it was more prevalent.
- mysonscool, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21You saw a family with lobster claws... at the beach.
Hmmm. - Crowforge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Seriously, who keeps sleeping with these people? The real story is that the lobster family is better with the opposite sex than I am with all my apparently overrated fingers and toes.
- bleonard, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25annnnnd im throwing up
- Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17"It also makes her overweight."
I'm gonna go out on a limb here (lol, pun) and guess that her lack of legs preventing her from exercise might have an effect on her weight. - yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18What right does anyone have to say you anyone else can't reproduce? Fair?! Of course it's fair - this ain't the 19th century anymore, all people, deformed, disabled, black, white, red or blue have the right to bear children.
- halavais, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"This doesn't stop me from doing anything."
Piano?
But I have to admit I'm a little surprised with comments above suggesting that someone with this anomaly is not worthy of reproducing. She's different, but different is not necessarily bad. I certainly wouldn't choose to have two fingers on each hand--or, for that matter, to have 8 on each hand. But if that's what I ended up with, I'd make due with what my genes gave me. And hell, yeah, I'd have kids.
My family has all kinds of genetic mine fields, from diabetes to psychosis, but what? Only Brad and Angelina are allowed to reproduce? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16You just got to love all the "Lobster Dinner" ads showing along with this article.
- afex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15left claw north RIGHT CLAW SOUTH
(i'm a little worried no one will get this reference) - kakwakas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Well, it seems she'll be able to live long and prosper.
...OK, that was bad. I apologize. - badfrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Brad and Angela didn't ask for my permission either.
- stisaac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Not having fully formed legs is probably the more debilitating of her disabilities. Her hands seem to still be able to do basic tasks.
- toekneebullard, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Yeah, no one could ever have a good life with hands like that. Cause you know, the only joys that exist in life come from our physical form. It would be impossible for anyone to ever be happy if they had hands like that. This woman should just kill herself.
*end sarcasm
How shallow are you people? - b0wl0fud0n, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14It is evolution at work.
- jjk5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I'm generally never in favor of not procreating on the chance the child could be afflicted with some malady. Ask any of the living people with clawhands if they wish they'd never been born. I don't think many would say they'd rather be dead than have a disfigurement.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -6/+16Adopt. Keep the world's gene pool free of unnecessary deformities and help the millions of children who need homes and parents.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Seriously, who keeps sleeping with these people?"
That made me LOL. - badfrog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11She should consider Scientology!
- swingsetacid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9lobster sticks to magnet! seriously, youtube. everything i've ever cared about all in one magical fantasy land.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hzBh0J1YFU - affanjam, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12i knew this guy and his hands were exactly like that i thought it was that condition but really he tried to blow up my school with a pipe bomb, it blew up in his hand when he tried to shake it. what a dumbadss
- jawdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8It doesn't skip generations....and takes 115 years or so to run its course....im not trying to be an ass, but how do that many lobster people even get laid?
- prankfurter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8look at the google ads on this page :/
- duster, on 10/12/2007, -16/+24I, for one, welcome our new lobster clawed overlords.
- Nightfall, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Not many people think about what they are going to pass on to their kids. Thats the problem. Having kids doesn't require a lot of thought, consideration, or planning for that matter.
Personally, I know of only one couple who refuses to have kids because of the disorders they have. One has a rare blood disorder, and the other has diabetes and a host of other health problems. Seeing this video makes me wish that she and others with serious health or genetic disorders would not have kids. - rodan32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yeah, I totally agree. At what point do we decide that someone's life is not worth living? Talk like that is leading towards the genetic engineering that was tried in some countries in the 30s and 40s. It's really not our position to tell someone that they don't deserve to have children for fear that their children will be LIKE THEM.
- mcottier, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Rock Lobster.
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I think a lot of you would do well to watch that episode of the original Twilight Zone where a woman believes she has a terribly disfigured face - the kick is SHE looks normal (to us) and "normal" people in the story are hideous....now think again about your heartless comments that people with deformity's shouldn't have children.
- jgreene777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6QUICK! SOMEONE CALL TIM BURTON!
- cougar618, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It says Discovery Channel in the corner of the video...
- Godel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Ask the claw lady if she wishes she'd never been born. If she says yes than its not fair for her to have children, if she says no then it is fair.
- greenamp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I recently read on Wikipedia that claw hands were originally genetically bred into male sex slaves by an ancient matriarchal amazonian society for greater and more efficient manual pleasure giving.
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Extra fingers aren't nearly as bad -- you can either get them removed or keep them for extra fingers.
- DuoPros, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16Good point.
- Tabris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Don't leave a lobster on a plate, he'll use his magnet to escape!
- NumbCore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Totally agree.
I didn't think they could do much untill I saw her open up the container and grab something out of it. -
