- fatcat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17i hope they do this for the whole world and not just the US soon
- cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Better link:
http://www.aaronkoblin.com/work/faa/ - Portside, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17How pretty.
- CatDaddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10This would make a great screen saver.
- burningmonk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Because the end of the video does not denote peak traffic. 19,000 occurs earlier in the video.
- RadiantBeing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Here's the color one crawf061 is talking about. You can see America go to bed and wake up.
http://users.design.ucla.edu/~akoblin/work/faa/color.html - mk32066, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7If it was real time that would be awesome.
- merm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Very cool. It's interesting how overnight things drop down to just 5,000 flights and then as daylight approaches there's a horde of flights that take off in rapid succession all over the map. Also interesting: the Alaska to Hawaii flight. That's a lot of water to cover.
- crawf061, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4it is cool watching the color coded one... you can see the day start from the east coast to the west coast... very cool.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Very awesome, I love it.
Anyone else think the USA was being invaded by sperm? - RadiantBeing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6@brharris, Obviously.
- republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://users.design.ucla.edu/~akoblin/work/faa/FinalA.mov
right click - save as - kendawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4we got a bright one here!
- Jeffrey903, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's really cool. It's awesome how you see the flights just stop going to the West coast at night and then it just picks up again.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -1/+3Would be interesting to see these spanned over a few days during the alleged liquid terror plot.
- republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2VLC - plays nearly everything and open source
http://www.videolan.org/ - ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I know the Mac fanbois will dig me down for this, but there's no ***** way I'm downloading Quicktime as long as it's forcibly including their ghey song gimmick program.
- just_chris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You don't have to download itunes with it, they give you the option. But I agree that quicktime is bloatware. It installs a useless player, takes over all your MIME types by default and many audio & video associations, installs crap in the system tray, and installs other garbage in your startup settings.
- mk32066, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You can see all of those cities pretty clearly, especially Denver.
- coyforce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2neat how you can see the outline of the CONUS, HI, PR, and AK.
- Wahttehhog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1CONUS = Continental United States
HI = Hawaii
PR = Puerto Rico
AK = Alaska - RadiantBeing, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6This is a really cool way to visualize our economy and way of life. Can you imagine that all of that was shutdown in the days after 9/11? This is why fighting terrorism matters.
- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ rhinopig
Great link! That presents the info in a much more revealing way. - berfmurret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm quicktime alternative crybaby.
- kendawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2even better is the "blobular" video.
http://users.design.ucla.edu/~akoblin/work/faa/blob.html
you can see the transatlantic blob, then the red-eye to the east blob, then madness. - mongrel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Money shot:
http://users.design.ucla.edu/~akoblin/work/faa/blob.html - just_chris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This looks like Joshua playing Global Thermonuclear War.
"Shall we play a game?" - rhinopig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I liked this one.

- DWatch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lol ::golfclap::
- mk32066, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The first part of that was on my birthday. There were a lot flights going in and out of Florida! It is really interesting how you can see the shape of the US based on where the flights are going!
- Roguecop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Here is a similar but more detailed thing but with ships...
http://digg.com/videos_educational/Global_Ship_Tracking_in_Real_Time - punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Let's just hope they don't make a realtime version available to the public. I can just see some crazy patriotic types taking homeland security into their own hands.
- swath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah that would be amazing. I bet the internation flight information must be incredibly tricky to aquire however. I believe it's mentioned on the project site : http://cmlab.com
- BobbyOnions, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Sorry, you've got me. What are those abbreviations? I'm not from America.
- funkypaws, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Boing Boing covered this last winter...still cool to see again though
- iomegaboy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Apparently Salt Lake, Denver, Boise and Spokane and Laos Vegas don't exist.
- techmonkey4u, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1that's a huge ejecta of smug headed towards Europe in the first 5 seconds
- 15charmaxwtf, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1http://users.design.ucla.edu/~akoblin/work/faa/FinalA.mov

- Kman42, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0lol... you must feel special!
- googolplexabyte, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3east coast pwns west.
- brharris, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1that is _one_ reason why fighting terrorism matters.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1The video stops at only 14,000 planes.. what's with the title of this article?
- cobracommander, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1This was posted with I think it was FedEx before and it was a little more clear. Cool nonetheless.
