- gamesector, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24Just so you know, the MIT professor who lends his views to this has recently said that his comments were taken out of context and that the documentary is a sham. Channel 4 may have action taken against them because of it.
- drafhk, on 10/12/2007, -17/+7And if they were taken out of context, what then? You'd have to be retarded to think this documentary hinges on those 20 seconds. Also, what did he really say? Proof? How does what he really says reject the view shown in this documentary? Troll.
- mlwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3umm, who's the troll on this thread again?
- RedHeadedFreak, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15And just so you know, scientists who oppose the global warming "consensus" have been threatened with death. I would not be surprised that if anyone recanted their views from this program, this could be one reason.

- suppressingfire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Everyone wants to be a victim, don't they? You sure get a more persuasive story by claiming you have been mistreated rather than by arguing your point.

- marcuschi, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3People are so stupid. When will they realize that the Earth is alive and merely going through puberty?
- h00paj00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1More like menopause with all the hot flashes. Maybe soon the earth will go into the Grand Motherly phase and shoot out cookies instead of hot lava when volcanoes erupt.
- Salgat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Even if it is a scam it still drives on the research and demand for more effecient technologies along with fuel alternatives that aren't limited.
- Aliasing, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18Personally I've worked as an assistant with a couple of guys who spent the last 30 some odd years as climatologists, and they're worried; I'll take their word over this.
- prinzrob, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15To break it down for you, this documentary states that the global warming myth was spread by:
1. Climate scientists looking for grant money.
2. Communist hippies who are against development and economic globalization.
3. Journalists who think it sounds like a good story.
4. Margaret Thatcher who wanted an excuse to promote nuclear energy.
And for some reason I am supposed to believe that these groups have more power and influence than the automobile and oil industries? No, sorry, I am not convinced. This documentary is all over the place and reeks of paranoid schizophrenia.- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1i am 2.

- savetheworldfgw, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2This documentary can not explain what is happening to our ocean; why its turning acidic, why has nature become so catastrophic in these last decades and why isn't it better to be safe than sorry. The fact is that the world is getting warmer, no one can deny that. As a result thousands of people have died in heat waves over the last years, 100s of species are dying and sea level have risen in some areas wiping out a few islands in India and Asia. The only cause for this heat wave that man can actually do something about is CO2 increase...so let us cling to our hope that we can do something to change this climate from doing more harm.
One fact that I found this documentary supported global warming was:
The fact that the sun causes the ocean to release more CO2 as it warms it up, increase our climate more rapidly. Becoming a vicious cycle as CO2 accumulates sun beams in return.- killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Livestock causes more GHG than cars... - RedHeadedFreak, on 10/12/2007, -13/+13Great video, I will certainly watch tomorrow. Global warming will be revealed in the next 20 years as the biggest sham in recent human history. They tried it with global cooling in the 70s, but everyone forgot about that false prophesy until now.
In any case, global warming is NOT a consensus, and the idea of a science having a consensus is unscientific in itself.
Thanks for posting this. Hopefully more will take note.- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3idiot

Martin Durkin, who made the film, has a past history with this.
"In 1997, Channel 4 broadcast Durkin's Against Nature, a documentary series which criticized the environmental movement for being a threat to personal freedom and for crippling economic development. Against Nature was subsequently investigated by the Independent Television Commission of the UK, following a number of complaints from some of the interviewees featured in the program. [1] The Commission eventually concluded that Durkin had misled his interviewees about the nature and purpose of the documentary, and that he had misrepresented and distorted their views by editing the interview footage in a misleading way. For these reasons, Channel 4 later issued a public apology on prime time TV.[2]According to The Independent, Durkin "accepts the charge of misleading contributors, but describes the verdict of distortion as "complete tosh."

This film is intended to stir, to cause controversy, to push your buttons. Only fox viewers will actually think it's serious journalism :) - savetheworldfgw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3This documentary discards global warming as a result of CO2 accumulation simply on the observation that the earth's core is warmer than its atmosphere at this point. Its basic science that the earth's core is metal and that metal absorbs more heat than gas therefore we can conclude that the earth's core has simply been absorbing the heat over the years. Just like a metalic pot heats up over steam, the earth's core is heating up. CO2 prevents the sun rays from leaving the earth's atmosphere, then the heat of the sun is absorbed by the earth's core.
I will also like to point out that scientist are saying that there is a relationship between CO2 and climate, whether its the leading cause or the second leading cause of global warming should not be an issue- if it is one of many other important causes it should still be addressed because it is something that we could do something about!- omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@savetheworldfgw:"I will also like to point out that scientist are saying that there is a relationship between CO2 and climate, whether its the leading cause or the second leading cause of global warming should not be an issue- if it is one of many other important causes it should still be addressed because it is something that we could do something about!"
Yes, clearly if CO2 is a cause of global warming, whether it's the primary cause making up 90% of it, or one of the smallest causes, making up all of 0.9%, we should immediately address it! Even if other causes are much more immediate or troubling to this issue, we should address the one that really nails the industrialized countries, the USA in particular. Let's hit those capitalist bastards where it hurts... then we can worry about whether this "global climate shift" thing is real, or whether we can actually do anything about it. Until then, let's continue spouting theories disgusted as fact to the mindless myrmidon masses so we sound far more important than we are.
I long for the day when we can have a truly objective debate about this issue, but I feel that debate won't be with you, Mr. "Save the World from GW" (clearly no bias there, huh?). I'd love to have the time to research all the angles of global warming and come to a reasonable conclusion that didn't involve calling opponents ignorant morons, or causing a near meltdown of the largest economy on the planet.

- dogstylee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh noes it's going to get a little warmer through no fault of our own and Britain will have lovely warm summers instead of ***** rainy days, whatever shall we do!
- uberlord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This film had about 1 hour of rubbish even more ridiculous than the idea they were attempting to disprove, but that left over 15 minutes, mainly the science with the sun, NEARLY makes up for the rest of it.
Global warming is very unlikely, but what if it actually did happen? A couple billion dollars spread across everyone in the world for research isn't that bad, considering the risks. Besides, new energy is needed, regardless of it's side effects - oil is running out anyway. Hydrogen will be the most practical fuel, as no one wants to wait even 10 minutes (Amazingly quick) to refuel their car after every 200 miles - and I'm getting this numbers from a 'revolutionary' new car featured in popular science - even if it is 3 cents a mile. If it takes a moral issue to get people to convert before the last minute, I see no harm.- schoofman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A couple billion dollars certainly isn't that much, is it?
I mean, it could only feed millions and build infrastructure for poor nations...
Even if you don't agree with his numbers, Bjorn Lomborg brings up a good philosophical stance in the global warming debate. Check it out.

Furthermore, using fear tactics gets you attention in the short run, but one hell of a lot of bad press and mistrust in the long run.
Look at Bush and his crew for an example.
