- heyjim, on 01/09/2008, -0/+15i enjoyed the awkward pauses as he waited for them to laugh
- dfltr, on 01/09/2008, -0/+8throw it on and listen to it in the background while you work. 100% worth sitting through the whole 45 minutes.
- OpinioNate, on 01/09/2008, -0/+5GTD is the new TCB
- controltheweb, on 01/09/2008, -0/+5Popular for good reason.
- mag4mag, on 01/09/2008, -3/+7I hate you
- DavidYeah, on 01/09/2008, -0/+4He provides outlines for getting your work place more organized and gives a few recommendations about how to do it. You don't have to use file folders if you want to go fully PC; it's fully adaptable. All of his ideas are scalable to different ways of doing things. My methods are completely, 100% electronic.
- cwcentral, on 01/09/2008, -0/+4At least he's not promoting buying $100 planners (Franklin)--then again will this stand the test of secured environments?
- mmorisy, on 01/09/2008, -0/+4@tusseyd I haven't seen the video yet, but David Allen doesn't at all push "outdated" tools over what's available. He advocates using the tools that work for YOU. A shocking large number of executives still don't use, or comfortably use, e-mail, etc. and have their secretaries do it. Some people just find that technology ends up making their life more complicated.
If you're not one of those people, David still has a lot to say. For a long time he used Palm, and explains some general best practices that work on paper, online, or however you work best. Blogging Giant Steve Rubel has GTD'd (??) his Gmail to great effect, and I recommend anyone having trouble staying on top of everything check it -- and David Allen's *first book* -- out. - mag4mag, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3Have you read his book?
- rottedrode, on 01/09/2008, -1/+3Boo. The sucked. Here's a shorter link.
http://tinyurl.com/2dmtt4 - signal15, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2You obviously don't have anything to do. When you get out and get a real job, a wife, kids, tons of bills, and a house, you will quickly realize that there seems to not be enough time in a day to finish all of the things you need to do.
I grabbed the beta of OmniFocus and started using it. My productivity has easily doubled and I sometimes find myself sitting around for a few hours each night bored because I have nothing to do. The GTD method works, regardless of how ***** of a speaker you think David Allen is. He came up with a GREAT method of managing time and keeping track of your entire life. - inactive, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2With that backdrop color I had no other choice but to listen to it in the background. The goggles, they do nothing!
- inactive, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1But he is promoting his book, and the whole GTD/Getting Things Done are registered trademarks of the David Allen Company. So it isn't completely different.
- derek20cali, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1Your logic is astounding.
- erpscooter, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1"You can't help yourself because yourself is a moron."
- derek20cali, on 01/09/2008, -11/+12I prefer The Astley Method of GTD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0
My productivity has increased 10x since following it. - BHSPitMonkey, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1Not even a minute in, and that had me cracking up.
- mmorisy, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Alright, after seeing the video, I kind of cringed. The book I found to be much more clear, more informative. This hit all the topics but in a way I don't think would be terribly helpful to new "initiates".
- unionaire, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1you mean digital
- digirat, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1where's the other half of the video?
- NuclearBunny, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1The GTD book is a short read but I don't really get much from reading or hearing about how to do something. I'm using a GTD plug-in (from netcentrics) for Outlook that really makes it easy to implement the GTD "method"
- KomodoDave, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1LOL ! Well said that man XD
- URnotheonly1, on 01/09/2008, -1/+1what?
- kajoob, on 01/09/2008, -2/+2I began to read your comment, saw that it sucked, then stopped reading it.
- purplepungo, on 01/09/2008, -0/+0He is a martial artist and other martial artists can see the similarities with GTD and martial arts psychology
- KomodoDave, on 01/09/2008, -0/+0'you shouldn't turn elsewhere for help'
What a load of crap. Progress in any field is most often made by building on what others have done, there is no denying that fact. If everyone always 'looked at themselves', we'd never get anywhere.
- Dave - seventoes, on 01/09/2008, -3/+2Almost clicked, but then i used my reading comprehension skills to their maximum. That was a close one.
- mal1964, on 01/09/2008, -4/+1Very temporary fix, some people go to church for the same thing. You'll pick up two three ideas, but you will buy 300.00 worth of tapes and books then they sit right next to Tony Robbins books and tapes
- rottedrode, on 01/09/2008, -5/+1I've got his audiobook - Getting Things Done: The Art Of Stress-Free Productivity -
http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Things-Done-Stress-F ...
Aside from the really cheesy intro music for each chapter, it's incredibly simple, and a great way to organize your life, and leave "work" at work. - captainbeah, on 01/09/2008, -5/+1I find it very amusing that the internet clamors over anyone who can help them get their life together down to the menial level of making an email client be actually helpful. If something isn't making your life better or easier, you shouldn't turn elsewhere for help, you should instead look at yourself.
- ultramoderate, on 01/09/2008, -4/+0The "tips and tricks" he offers are pretty good, but his explanations of the "theory" behind it are absolute psychobabble BS. Like mikesown said, he sounds like a badly trained psychologist.
That stuff helps reel in the really gullible people. - tusseyd, on 01/09/2008, -6/+1A massive waste of time. David Allen is about a decade behind the times. I went to one of his lectures and he advocated using colored file folders -- the paper kind. What a waste. Get with the 21st century D.A. Totally ridiculous integration with the tools of the modern workplace. Buried.
- zimmbear, on 01/09/2008, -7/+1I watched 5 seconds, saw that it was 45 minutes, then clicked out.
- mikesown, on 01/09/2008, -8/+1Uh, can you say BS?
I swear, I don't know WHY Google asked this person to speak; he's talking out of his ass along the lines of getting in the "mental mindset" for getting things done better. Honestly, he sounds like a (very dumb, untrained) psychologist than anything; not an engineer. If you need someone to tell you how to do work, you have problems.
