- Roksix, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21My Japanese is a little rusty but from what I can gather after your done boiling the potato you dip it in a vat of children's souls? And to think I've been doing it wrong all these years by using a good old fashion peeler.
- kelly, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11no.
You have to boil it anyways... the only other step comparable to the peeling is the 10 seconds in ice water and the pulling back of the skin. Unless you can peel a potato in the 15 seconds it takes to do that... their method is better, faster and cleaner. - Prototek, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5According to the video, it appears cold water creates waves in the skin which lifts it away from the potato.
- bugblatterbeast, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5"Blanching" to remove the skin works on tomatos as well. But it won't come with all the flashy graphics and craaaazy colors!
- LeftOffTheArk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Listen to her cute little voice explain science. Adorable.
- NailerNforce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That would remove a good deal of the nutrients found in the potato.
- pennvneff, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I do the exact same thing to take the skin off of tomatoes when I make my red sauce.
- mikemil828, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3And this is different from American TV because?

- kelly, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I wish I knew how long they say to boil the potato
- rushiku, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The nutrients are removed either way because they are in the skin, the rest of the potato being, basically, nothing but carbs.
- unfinite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not that tomatoes need to be peeled, but good to know anyways.
- Utopian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I knew you knew he knew this trick before he knew you knew he knew this trick before he was born.
- MasterChi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Agreed, old trick used often and it works with various veggies that need peeling.
- jennamalia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day...
Umm, do you really think that they produce this video every single time that they want to peel a potato? - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5And if you reverse the freezing and heating sequence, you can peel a Chinese guy's arm! Oh, those wacky Japanese and their ingenuity!
Warning: graphic and disturbing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvHDkEovkXk - usherzx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2i like potato skins :(
- rushiku, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Apparently those who fail to understand a video that explicitly shows the formerly hot, boiled potato being dunked in ice water for 10 seconds. Long enough to cool the outer area of the potato and allow you to pick it pick and slide the skin off. Just don't wait to long. (Also works with boiled eggs - neat (or mean, you be the judge) trick: hard boil some eggs, then dunk in ice water. Wait about 10 seconds, then pick one up, showing your friend (Oh yeah, you'll need a friend for this) how you can pick up and hold an egg that just came out of boiling water, when it starts to get too hot, hand it off to 'see' if your friend is as manly as you are)
- mal1964, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2No need to peel, skin on mashed potatoes are fantastic!
- stklaw, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I knew you knew this trick before you were born.
- rushiku, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Blanching is far from a new idea, but the video was fun.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Europe isn't a country...
- veggiemoore, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1This totally reminds me of the Willi Waller 2006. Has anyone outside of French Canada seen this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WV-lyF22rU - usherzx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1that doesn't make sense.. otherwise the video would be longer
- Eoborges, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1How about peeling it before boiling it
Although this method is so much cooler - Smight, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0You know the creepy crawly feeling you get under your skin when you walk over a mass childrens' grave?
That's what they do to the potato. It's SCIENCE!! - mayaesh, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Japan is a craaaaazy culture!!!
- TemporalRift, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Okay, so does anyone else think it'd be faster just to peel and boil the potato?
- merrickx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1The Japanese can figure out anything... they figure out how to make they're fingers move fast enough to get Multi-kills back-to-back.
- faithfreedom, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Very disturbing! That's why people should limit the government size. Otherwise, it will wage war and commit atrocities.
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Thanks to Japanese experiments on the Chinese, we now know how to peel a potato! Thank goodness for science.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0It takes more time to peel it than it took to produce this video :-)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0tadada... spooky
- mikemil828, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1So the Japanese committed various atrocities against Chinese POWs 70 years ago, how is this different from most other countries, especially Europe? War is cruelty, pplz.
- dnacid, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Who in their right minds peel a HOT, BOILED potato with their FINGERS?
- CanadaMan87, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2Man, Japanese television is painful to watch. A combination of a loud, squawky-sounding girl, lots of stupid sound effects accompanying huge tacky blocks of text and cheesy background music to top it off.
It's just awful and annoying to experience. - ByronT, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2PIKA, PIKA, PIKAACHUUUUUUUUUUU
btw the potatoes actually make those sounds when you take the peel off. It's so fantastic. - feelsgood, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0Its a little known fact, but the JP flag originally was an avatar for the heat conductance of a potato. It the radial vectors were later removed so people would not confuse it with an image of a sunrise.
- eschompthis, on 10/10/2007, -14/+1give me ***** break, I knew this trick before I even knew what a potato was
