The Holocaust: Are We Condemned To Repeat It?
writeidea.blogspot.com — Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it. George Santayana Wise s eigentlich gewesen. Sixty some odd years ago, something happened that is so atrociously odious that some, rather then face it, find it easier to equivocate and to subtly deny that it ever took place.

- ElWizardo, on 03/29/2008, -5/+8The Holocaust of WW2 was not the first and will not be the last. Genocides of all kinds have occurred throughout history.
History does not repeat itself... only man's need to achieve where others have failed.- ncairns, on 03/29/2008, -1/+3"I've got news for Mr. Santayana: we're doomed to repeat the past no matter what. That's what it is to be alive."
- Kurt Vonnegut - Stevanoski, on 03/29/2008, -3/+8There is a difference between other genocides and the Holocaust in the intensity and compressed time frame. Never before in history.
- ncairns, on 03/30/2008, -4/+4Tell that to the Tasmanian Aborigines.
Oh wait - you can't. Because they don't exist anymore.- Stevanoski, on 03/30/2008, -2/+7No one denies that it happened and it had a cause, a reason for it to happen.
The two things that most set apart the worlds history of holocausts and The Holocaust.
People wanted that land. Two things you cannot say about the Holocaust. All of the Muslim world is busily, with the help of the worlds progressives, trying to charge the Holocaust did not happen. And two, there was no "practical" reason for the genocide of the Jews. i.e., no power to be achieved, no land to be conquered, Extermination of the Jews wasn’t a means to an ends; killing the Jews itself was the ends.- ncairns, on 03/30/2008, -4/+41. You clearly know ***** about the Tasmanian Genocide if you think 'no one denies that it happened'. In reality, until only fairly recently it was academically, societally and politically accepted here in Australia that it DIDN'T happen. You can't say that about the Holocaust - no intelligent, apprised entity has ever seriously entertained the fevered, bigoted conspiracies of Muslim extremists or white supremacists.
2. Also *****, and this time you know it. The Jews were Hitler's scapegoat for Germany's postwar failings, a blame which should have been placed on the Treaty of Versailles displaced upon a convenient minority. Once Hitler blamed them the rest of Germany found in them an excuse as well. They rallied behind the idea that it wasn't their fault Germany lost WWI and collapsed under the weight of their defeat - it was the Jews! There absolutely was a 'practical' reason for the Holocaust - a rallying point for the German people to recoup their morale and rebuild their country.
The Tasmanian Genocide is the only complete genocide recorded in the history of the world.
There are no more native Tasmanians.
Anywhere.
The numbers may be dwarfed by the Holocaust, but the sheer significance of entirely wiping a race of people off the face of the planet must not be underestimated. - Stevanoski, on 03/30/2008, -2/+5And you deny that the entire Middle East with the assistance of the Left are trying to deny the Holocaust? Have you listened to any of the President of Iran's speeches?
And again, no one denies it happened. You do not have countries and Media from all over the world denying it occured. I am glad you are so interested in the Tasmo's, as terrible as it was it does not stand against the scope of the Holocaust. I imagine I am talking to deaf ears. - ncairns, on 03/30/2008, -1/+4"And you deny that the entire Middle East with the assistance of the Left are trying to deny the Holocaust?"
Yes, I do. But then, unlike you, my entire supply of news isn't vetted through the myopic sieve that is conservatism. And, unlike you, I've been to the Middle East. In reality, the Middle Eastern people in general not only believe that the Holocaust happened, they sympathize with the Jewish people and respect their need for a homeland after WWII. Ahmadinejad, whose favorability ratings have nosedived to Bush-levels following his string of incendiary comments, is probably the worst - but most convenient - indicator of Iranian public opinion you could find. Young, university-aged Iranians are almost as progressive-minded as any random sample taken from any Western population. It's convenient to think of them as writhing hordes of frothy zealots, but in reality an increasing number of people in the Middle East, and in Iran especially, are being held accountable for the bigotries of their parent's generation.
People as willfully ignorant as you really need to first learn how to read, and then start reading actual accounts of the Middle East conflict written by people like Elias Chacour.
"And again, no one denies it happened."
Tell me, have you ever even been to Australia? Because silly me, ***** LIVING HERE and all, for some reason feels like maybe he's in a better seat to make that determination. Not only are there persistent political factions which still deny the genocide, but until as recently as the '70s it was taught as historical fact that the Tasmanian aborigines died out due to natural causes.
You cannot find me a single individual or organization whose denial of the Holocaust is entertained in any sense. In any reputable, professional setting, the irrefutable reality of the Holocaust is unequivocally acknowledged. From David Hoggan to Roeland Raes, people who cast aspersions on the historical reality of the Holocaust have been rightfully ostracized and ridiculed, embraced only by the outermost left and right fringes of politics where hate groups and political parties commingle. Denying the Holocaust as a historian is like denying evolution as a biologist - forever thereafter your credibility is shattered.
I'd tell you to compare that to the situation the Aussies have with the Tasman genocide, but you'd have to know ***** all about it to do that.
- ncairns, on 03/30/2008, -4/+41. You clearly know ***** about the Tasmanian Genocide if you think 'no one denies that it happened'. - Stevanoski, on 03/30/2008, -3/+4In the space of thirty years (1803-1833), the population of the Tasmanian Aborigines was reduced from an estimate of around 5,000 to around 300, largely from diseases introduced by British settlers, and conflict with those settlers
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasmanian_Aborigines
5,000 due to disease and conflict compared to 6 million. Wish I would have looked it up earlier. What a canard.- ncairns, on 03/30/2008, -3/+3Hahahaha, now YOU'RE denying the Tasman genocide!
Christ, they day reading a Wikipedia summation makes one a historical authority is the day I'll shoot myself in the ***** brain stem.

The IDF is stronger than you think. May HaShem give them the strength, and watch over the safety of each and every soldier! =)
- ElWizardo, on 03/29/2008, -2/+16They will never nuke Israel. Why would they want to render the Holy Land radioactive? Anyway, the younger generation is sick of the way Iran is run. If given a little more time it will change on it's own. Attack them now and the youth will side with Iran quelling any chance of future co-operation from the inside.
- hadees, on 03/30/2008, -2/+6Well considering Islamic extremists strap bombs to themselves and blow themselves up I don't think they are necessarily always thinking to the future. Plus maybe they think G-d will protect them from the radiation.
On top of that I think force should be a last resource but the fact is the moderates in Iran have no power. Iran is for all intensive purposes a dictatorship run by the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. While the crazy ***** denying Jew hating Ahmadinejad makes a great front man the real power is with the Supreme Leader who appoints the Guardian Council and is head of the military among other powers. The Guardian Council in turn decides who runs for office and has veto power over new laws. So even if the Iranian public was 100% on our side it would do no good because they little power.
My doomsday scenario is that the people of Iran revolt and the Supreme Leader has nothing to loose and launches what ever he can at Israel trying to become some big martyr.

the humanity of humanity also is affected by supply and demand. - DJPsychomike, on 03/29/2008, -2/+13The Germans finally released their files this past year on the war, shattering the deniers claims. Not only did Hitler get monthly updates of the killings, so did the Grand Mufti! When Himmler tried to negotiate with the Swiss to arrest Hitler and keep the Nazi Party going, he used the remaining Jews in the camps as his bargaining chips. The Swiss had been informed that 1 1/2 million Hungarian Jews had been taken less than a year before, so when the Swiss intermediary heard Himmler say he would free the 1 million remaining Jews in all the camps, he realized the scope of the murder. 1/2 million had been killed in the space of just several months, and millions were clearly dead.
By classifying this material, the holocaust deniers were able to invent any scenario they wanted to absolve Hitler. By declassifying the material, the horror of the regime emerges. Sadly, 70% of our documents on World War 2 remain classified! - gravityboard, on 03/29/2008, -2/+9The success of these genocides rests on a leaders ability to maintain unwavering support from their followers. Unfortunately because of this, history will inevitably repeat itself as leaders capitalize on young men's aggression, fear and anger. Some of those most terrible leaders throughout history have used these hormonal emotions to their advantage, from Hitler with his Brown Shirts (fun factoid: Stormtrooper is the translation of the German word for these gangs of thugs) to Mao's Red Guard to militant groups in Africa who kidnap young boys from villages and brainwash them into committing more kidnappings. You need only spend one day in a public high school to realize what a destructive force a group of angry dudes can be.
- mejaredme, on 03/29/2008, -2/+7Amen to that. The American public schools (i.e., government indoctrination centers) are breeding a kind of man that has no place in civilized society.
- ElWizardo, on 03/29/2008, -9/+3What public schools are you visiting that you witness these hatemongers?
- ElWizardo, on 03/30/2008, -4/+3Yah... Why answer me, when you can just Digg me down. .... douchebags. Obviously you are going by hearsay.
- camelseye, on 03/30/2008, -2/+3You are dugg down because you ignore the obvious. Do you read newspapers?
"Hearsay" can also be considered as evidence when it is spoken by a friend you know to be trustworthy...I'm sure you practice this in other areas...cool off!- ElWizardo, on 03/30/2008, -4/+3I read 4 newspapers a day of varying view. I listen to talk radio of varying view, as well as TV news. I also have many nieces and nephews attending public schools around Houston and TX and as a parent I keep track of school news from Austin, TX. So you see... Hearsay is as good as reading the bathroom wall to a person with his finger on the pulse of information.
Again, I ask you, what public schools are you visiting that you witness these hatemongers? - camelseye, on 03/30/2008, -2/+1My advice to you is to read your four newspapers-- a "news junkie" can't miss it... a rash of murderous, hate-filled students planning or carrying out vengeance. If that's not enough, consider the sexual-predator teachers, sex-ed that encourages experimentation before emotional maturity, and the very popular "social training" (diametrically opposed to my world-view) instead of genuine education. Enough said, there is really no debate. (personal testimony could be discredited as "hearsay" by those who don't want to believe it.)
- ElWizardo, on 03/30/2008, -1/+4@ CamelToe
A few bad apples at best. If public schools are an indoctrination system from the curriculum it teaches, then these bad apples are proof that the indoctrination system doesn't work and your need to invoke fear is pointless.
Most of the problems within student killings has nothing to do with the schools and every thing to do with the parent and the student. Most of the rampage killings happen in what can be considered middle/upper middle class America. What it comes down to is, rather than take responsibility for the welfare of the children you are looking for a scapegoat. Music, drugs, video game, comic books TV... etc. Japan has a code, "Fix the problem , not the blame.". The problem is parenting and the inability to recognize problems in the child at the start.
Part of this can be blamed on society's need to move to a 24 hr work day. Families are not as close as they use to be, and parents are tired when they come home. Most do not want to be bothered with the "Moody" children. I work 12-14 hours a day, and an addition 6-7 hrs tending to my 5 month old triplets when I get home... but spend much of my free time with my kids, exhausted or not. I always keep track of their devlopment and progress. That is good parenting.
I have never run into a Sex Ed class that "encourages experimentation before emotional maturity". The idea of abstaining but if sex occurs use a condom is not encouraging experimentation. It teaches safe sex habits. Anyway, over 2/3 of the girls who attend Virgin Balls and promise no sex until marriage fail within the next 2 years.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

- gravityboard, on 04/02/2008, -0/+1What makes you think I'm visiting? I happen to attend a public high school, and I take Digg pretty seriously as a news source so don't think I'd be going around making comments if I don't mean them...

l2grammar - whatthefu, on 03/29/2008, -0/+9I don't understand why "The Holocaust" only refers to the Jewish deaths. They were the majority of the deaths, yes, but it really excludes the millions of other people that died in the camps, be them gypsies, political prisoners, freemasons, gays, conscripted Russians, the disabled, etc. I don't know, it just makes me sad, because a lot of people suffered in those camps and not all of them are remembered equally.
- dinostabOMG, on 03/29/2008, -8/+2Because some very cynical, remorseless people have turned the Holocaust into an industry.
- hadees, on 03/30/2008, -1/+9I don't think anyone is denying that large groups of other people died in The Holocaust but the main focus of the Holocaust was to kill off the Jews and percentage wise they came shockingly close. Poland which had a huge Jewish population had almost no Jews after WWII.
- cerealjynx, on 03/29/2008, -4/+1Probably not.
- Stevanoski, on 03/29/2008, -2/+5After some additional thought there are two differences that I don't believe those on the Left can refute. They are the objective and the denial that make it The Holocaust, not just a holocaust.
Usually in the practice of genocide it is for some end, the Tutsi wanted power, et.al., Extermination of the Jews wasn’t a means to an ends; killing the Jews itself was the ends.
There are many who try to rationalize the actions of a genocide, but never have we seen such a planned action to deny the Holocaust ever happened. - victorypup, on 03/30/2008, -3/+5Here in America we have our own brand of Holocaust. The clinical annihilation of 50,000,000 youth. The tragedy of the Jewish Holocaust is not upstaged by this 50,000,000 people slaughtered in the abortion mills, but is only an addition to. The participants in one holocaust, are no more, or no less evil than those in another. Does History repeat itself? I see it as "History just keeps rolling along".
- Stevanoski, on 03/30/2008, -1/+3I hate abortion. That said, still, the Holocaust is different. 1. It is trying to be denied (Middle Eastern Potentates, et. al.) 2. It had no reason, killing Jews was the goal.
- victorypup, on 03/31/2008, -1/+2Sure it has a reason, it's killing baby's, the reason is for convenience sake. Can't have a bunch of kids interupting plans. Kill those little rascals, they will just be in the way, and eat up a lot of good food. Boy what a reason. Right?
- ElWizardo, on 03/30/2008, -1/+350,000,000 people slaughtered in the abortion mills? Where did you get this number?
- victorypup, on 03/31/2008, -1/+2look it up wizard
- ElWizardo, on 03/31/2008, -1/+2I did... it wasn't there. Since you have it on hand... Where did you get this number?
- alkajazz, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Lol it's a ballpark estimate. DUH.
- ElWizardo, on 03/31/2008, -1/+2OK, I found it. 50,000,000 from 1973-2007. But it counts all abortions. It doesn't discern abortions for medical reason from anything else.
So I have to ask... How many children have you adopted? If you are against abortion, what have you done to stem the problem?- victorypup, on 03/31/2008, -1/+1that's because the abortions for medical reasons are so small in number that they don;t bear mentioning.

Isn't taking pain killers controlling your body? Even if you threaten children with the death sentence they will still have sex, grown priests can't control their sexual urges how do you expect children too, your superstition is causing these abortions, you are the problem, stop looking for scapegoats...
