- mrbubby, on 06/03/2008, -2/+598I have a film degree and I use it all the time whenever I have a table that's slightly wobbly.
- Wonkanobi, on 06/04/2008, -9/+505Women's Studies is completely useless. Unless you're trying really hard to get laid. By a bull dyke.
- charlieville, on 06/03/2008, -4/+487Dont forget about social work. $200,000 education so you can make $22,000 the rest of your life
- sdsu, on 06/04/2008, -1/+425Definitely agree with Art History. I majored in that and I can tell you, even Art history majors won't hire other art history majors.
- inactive, on 06/04/2008, -3/+376Why is there a picture Draco Malfoy for Latin?
- Ganpachi, on 06/04/2008, -1/+325I was talking with a guy at work the other day when he mentioned that he had to find time to get his GED.
At first I felt sorry for him. All the opportunity and education that he missed in high school and college!
Then I felt sorry for me because we were doing the exact same job for the same pay. - jjsmall, on 06/03/2008, -2/+307I learned just enough in philosophy to screw me up for the rest of my life.
- yorkhock, on 06/03/2008, -9/+296My English degree is more worthless than that controller. A lot more worthless.
- jisrael, on 06/04/2008, -2/+232I have a furniture design degree and I use it to make movies...
- inactive, on 06/04/2008, -7/+221African american studies.
- Manitou, on 06/04/2008, -4/+216Any degree with "studies" in the name is a waste of your parents' money.
- samoan27, on 06/04/2008, -2/+212As a rule of thumb: if your degree supplied you with clever banter that will actually be interesting to the ladies, it's useless outside of that realm.
- lcm133, on 06/03/2008, -10/+197Imagine playing MarioKart with that N64 controller.
- KMyHero, on 06/04/2008, -3/+176No love for sociology? Coming to a star NCAA athlete near you!
- 2001em2, on 06/04/2008, -0/+169no sports management? every college athlete on the planet does sports management. "Dude, if I don't go pro I've got my sports management degree to fall back on, and the I'll just wind up coaching in 5-10 years."
- Genthree, on 06/04/2008, -6/+171Nah, people will hire you because they're afraid not to.
- Innervate, on 06/04/2008, -39/+190I'm surprised Psychology isn't on here...
- inactive, on 06/04/2008, -3/+145Eh, I thought about Film school once, then found out it takes NO education to film a wedding or Bar/Bat Mitzvah with an off the shelf HDV camera and a Mac with Final Cut Studio.
I saved alot of money by NOT going to film school, and in turn, make great money filming stupid ***** weddings and Bar/Bat Mitzvahs.......
I can recite the words to Hava naquila now......
I have a great collection of crotch shots from drunken brides.
I have no morals. - reuscel, on 06/04/2008, -18/+151What bothers me about lists like this is that some kid who may love English literature or Art History and is truly intellectually curious about these fields will now be scared off and forced to study finance or business administration, thus flooding the market with these graduates who have no intellectual growth beyond finding out how much money they can make, because some smarmy ***** with a low-quality blog tells them the passionate pursuit of their chosen field is useless. Is it the ***** 1980s again? Is making money really the only barometer of success anymore? What about happiness, and feeling like you're contributing to the society around you in a positive and intellectually stimulating way? Lists like this are ***** useless, not English and Philosophy majors.
Buried for being a piece of ***** article from a blog for the Abercrombie/Hollister crowd. - Krezer, on 06/04/2008, -2/+134"Will write for food"
- wireframework, on 06/04/2008, -0/+123I have a film degree too. I use it to dry my tears of poverty.
- inactive, on 06/04/2008, -0/+110I studied social work in college and worked in the field after and let me tell you it was the worst decision of my life /education.
You can't help anyone if you make so little money that you are always stressed out and depressed.
I'm a SysAdmin now and it's so much better. Computers do what you tell them. - mrsoze84, on 06/04/2008, -10/+115Without my English degree, my message board comments wouldn't be half as witty...
...see? worthless. - ItsMyWii, on 06/04/2008, -0/+104More importantly, why are they insinuating that the Iliad and the Odyssey are Latin?
- Ellipsys, on 06/04/2008, -6/+110I'd like to add (insert race here)American studies and Women's Studies to the list. You've majored in either 1) Feeling bad for things you've never done - if you're white and/or male or 2) feeling entitled and justified in blaming all your troubles on whites and/or males - if "other". If you want to learn about history of a certain ethnic group or gender, then by all means take a history course on what you're interested in, but I can't fathom why anyone would want to spend $10,000+ a year to learn such biased and incomplete information that, rather than enlighten, will instantly alienate people.
- MaddieCakes, on 06/04/2008, -1/+101The spells in Harry Potter are supposed to be Latin.
- inactive, on 06/04/2008, -3/+103My philosophy degree helps me pick up chicks at the library.
- czechsmola, on 06/04/2008, -4/+101$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
- chaosevil, on 06/04/2008, -0/+91Really? How does that make you feel?
*scribbles on paper* - loungechair, on 06/04/2008, -3/+93You don't get laid by a bull dyke, you get gored.
- mrbubby, on 06/04/2008, -0/+86Great ***** call. Every time I watch a college football game and they show the players major, it's ALWAYS sports management.
- Coven, on 06/04/2008, -3/+88Music Industry major here. Unfortunately I graduated just as the industry started to collapse in on itself. I'd say my degree is worth about a buck and a quarter at this point.
- LemonDefragger, on 06/04/2008, -0/+82The sad part is, most of these majors are offered at my college and they are all popular. So much disillusionment.
- Coffeedemon, on 06/04/2008, -7/+87Thats a great story full of compelling arguments and developed characters and themes. Glad that journalism degree is working out for you dude.
- cerealjynx, on 06/04/2008, -15/+90Dugg for N64 bong.
- Gumby_Mac, on 06/04/2008, -0/+73You could always become a grammar Nazi on YouTube. I guarantee that no one on there has an English degree.
This is me: http://i28.tinypic.com/212zm6c.jpg - metaliq, on 06/04/2008, -6/+77I think that the purpose of college seems lost to most people.
It isn't to get more money. It's to learn, and be in an environment that condones learning. The relationships and knowledge that can be achieved are invaluable.
It's up to you to take advantage of it. In all honesty, most people that graduate from college do not use their specific degree in their field.
And self education is condoned, but you cannot achieve the atmosphere on wikipedia.
Also, to nullify the point that this whole article tries to get across, you can teach at a lot of places with just a B.A., and, if someone is really passionate about their field, they may as well go after a Masters of PH.D in it and profess. If not, they can go for a degree in graduate school for anything anyway.
Sorry if this is a defense of higher education, but most people miss the point of it completely. Go to school for whatever interests you, because you wont get anything out of studying chemistry if you hate it the whole time. So study dance if that's your passion. You'll get a degree regardless, and the fact that you have a degree means more than what it's in. - BevansDesign, on 06/04/2008, -0/+70They missed one job possibility: Art History Professor. It's unlikely, but...it's out there.
I used to always joke that Art History is a self-perpetuating major. - hellb0y, on 06/04/2008, -2/+72Dugg for creative use of the N64 controller
- LadyDub, on 06/04/2008, -1/+71My art and music degrees are really paying off : ( Everyone automatically thinks you're a hippie.
- Ratteler, on 06/04/2008, -3/+70After getting my film degree, I realized I should have become a monk. There's just as much sex, more respect, and at least you might be able to grow your own food.
- malex, on 06/04/2008, -2/+65A lesbian I knew once said "I like sleeping with girls too, but I don't want to major in it."
- ooby, on 06/04/2008, -0/+63I suspect the converse is true as well...
- plizard, on 06/04/2008, -7/+67sudo make me a sandwich
- dyreschlock, on 06/04/2008, -2/+59people who have said degrees convinced the administration to keep the majors so they can have a job.
- Areku, on 06/04/2008, -6/+62Dugg for leaving out Fine Art. ^_^
