- gizram84, on 06/08/2009, -0/+3... while all you ungrateful, spoiled 19 year old kids get to bitch about why you hate george bush so much.. this county saved her life and gave her an unfathomable future..
- lougoose, on 06/08/2009, -0/+3There is a girl at my highschool who also survived this genocide. She graduated near the top of our class and she is off at college now. She has a part in a video in a Holocaust Museum. Very powerful speaker. Her story is amazing.

- alexacastrato, on 06/08/2009, -0/+1Her father was an amazing man. I love hearing stories like this, hopefully her own history can push people to realize how much she lived through to be able to receive an education of her choosing in the U.S. Maybe this can teach people to not take education for granted.
- ncapone, on 06/08/2009, -1/+2Hint: Don't name your child Candide, otherwise he or she will have the worst life ever.
- PawFox, on 06/08/2009, -0/+1Good for her : Well Done :)

- cp101, on 06/08/2009, -1/+2I got the hell out of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992, when I was 5, on my birthday, at that. :( But :) now.
Genocide is Worldwide Folks. - KingFog, on 06/08/2009, -0/+1Does it matter? In the end everyone who wasn't fighting became a refugee, Hutus and Tutsis alike...
I find it amazing what people can do in such horrors... A 5 year old, survived the genocide almost entirely on her own... - inactive, on 06/08/2009, -0/+1If you guys like this, than check out songs by Emmanuel Jal. He was a child soldier from Sudan, rescued when he was 11, and right now he is a musician, actually one of the few rappers out there worth listening to.
- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -0/+1beautiful, moving story...made me cry.

- SpruceCaboose, on 06/08/2009, -1/+0Would we be more ungrateful if we had all the freedoms given to us in a free country and we chose to stay silent about something that we felt passionately about? I personally feel that the ones who are ungrateful are the ones who have the freedoms to change ills in society and instead choose not to use those freedoms.
It seems like some people want us to have all the freedoms we can have and then not use them, since using them is being "ungrateful". If we were so grateful for what we have and never wanted to upset anyone by disagreeing or sharing our opinions, we US citizens would still be European citizens.
That said, people like this who can come from such horrors and turn around and accomplish things like this speak volumes for the courage of the human spirit in dire times. My heart does go out to any victim or the families of victims from genocide. Nothing quite as heartbreaking and despicable as the willing extermination of innocent people. - inactive, on 06/08/2009, -4/+0how was it up hill both ways
- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -15/+3I'll bet she would have voted for Obama.
