- TheSadRobut, on 11/01/2009, -7/+139So can a guy join and get money if he doesn't get pregnant?
- AmyVernon, on 11/01/2009, -6/+90I actually can't find a lot of fault with this. Give these girls a fighting chance to get ahead without being saddled with a child. It's all very well and good to "teach" abstinence, but it's obvious that doesn't work very well. Give them a real incentive to not get pregnant other than that they shouldn't have sex.
- GusterBear, on 11/01/2009, -0/+65They should offer a similar program for boys who don't knock anyone up.
- copypastry, on 11/01/2009, -7/+56IF ONLY ALL SCHOOLS FOCUSED ON TEACHING PROPER SEX ED INSTEAD OF GODDAMN ABSTINENCE *****
High five for this school for doing it right. - vault, on 11/01/2009, -2/+50Bribery...succeeding where morality failed for centuries.
- fury420, on 11/01/2009, -3/+50you'd think not having a kid during high school would be reward enough for avoiding getting knocked up, apparently not tho.
- diemunkiesdie, on 11/01/2009, -4/+40If a guy never gets a girl pregnant, he should be allowed to be in the program too!
- Mariokartfever, on 11/01/2009, -1/+29No no, guys should get the money the girls would have gotten when they knock her up
- BigGooseX, on 11/01/2009, -4/+32$400 abortion = $2000, not too bad
gonna get dugg down by pro life people - tacojohn48, on 11/01/2009, -2/+28We want them to go and make all the money so we can be stay at home dads. We have convinced them that this is what feminism is about.
- kingbinji, on 11/01/2009, -1/+27if only there was a program that paid guys to abstain during highschool. i would've gotten money easily (not by choice).
- theonlywizdum, on 11/01/2009, -1/+26Teenage pregnancy is that bad now.
- InfiniteNothing, on 11/01/2009, -3/+28Why would there be an exception for incest? I'm pretty sure they want to discourage that too.
- Findeton, on 11/01/2009, -0/+23I have to say one thing: I live in Spain, I'm 23, and I've never heard or met any girl that has got pregnant before she's 22 yo. We've got one of the lowest teenage pregnancy rates. You know how we do it? We use condoms. Schools educate teenagers on sex and on safe sex, and they give condoms on those classes too . It also helps that more than 50% of young people are agnostics or atheists.
- Poland, on 11/01/2009, -3/+23Can I have $2000 for not getting anyone pregnant?
- tacojohn48, on 11/01/2009, -0/+20I knew at one in high school who wanted to get pregnant. Knew another girl that her parents told her they wanted a grandbaby now.
/everything is always classy in Tennessee - HyperionHK, on 11/01/2009, -1/+20Teaching abstinence as an option is fine. However teaching abstinence ONLY is one of the worst things you could do
- redfox2600, on 11/01/2009, -6/+25I can, why are we paying girls something they're suppose to do? Or is teenage pregnancy that bad now?
- asgardshill, on 11/01/2009, -5/+24So do you have to pee on a strip to get the $2000?
- 408train, on 11/01/2009, -12/+30yah, it seems that this raises incentives for abortions as well!
long live stem cell research - inactive, on 11/01/2009, -1/+17how is this controlling?
- theonlywizdum, on 11/01/2009, -0/+16I was going to write something as a reply to your statement, but I received a picture message from some drunk chick without any clothes on while I was writing it. This is either horribly or hilariously bad timing.
- AnalogAssassin, on 11/01/2009, -0/+16I have no data to back this up, but I'm betting that the majority of the girls who get knocked up in their teens never intend to go to college anyway. I know there are exceptions, and I KNOW one such exception, who graduated college and had four more kids and is living a great life.
I have two daughters, and when the time comes, my wife and I will talk to them about the consequences of getting pregnant and ALL of the options to avoid this, including abstinence.
I don't expect my daughters to be perfect angels, but I do want them to respect their bodies and to find someone who respects them as well. - Scira, on 11/01/2009, -1/+14I doubt it, and with good reason. I've met a couple of girls who seem like they wouldn't mind ruining someones life to get 2000$.
- fragMasterFlash, on 11/01/2009, -6/+19Cash for impregnating college girls? Sign me up!
- tootim, on 11/01/2009, -2/+15So are you upset about the abortion or the fact they cheated in the contest?
- GusterBear, on 11/01/2009, -2/+15There's nothing saying they have to abstain from sex, just keep from getting pregnant.
It means some are still fooling around with their boy toys, but are taking BC and demanding (instead of just asking) that they wear a rubber. - InfiniteNothing, on 11/01/2009, -2/+13You'd end up pay more in child support.
- LonesomeFighter, on 11/01/2009, -0/+11my high school taught proper sex ed with using protection instead of abstinence. unlike my fiancée's high school which focused more on teaching nothing and hoping kids won't do anything, but to be fair they did put in a baby day care center, something my school never felt needed
- MysticKatDaddy, on 11/01/2009, -1/+11actually the government should pay girls 10,000 to get sterilized
- Nidy1, on 11/01/2009, -0/+10Reality TV show!
- Findeton, on 11/01/2009, -2/+12It doesn't prevent pregnancy itself, but if the other option is to pay attention to all those religious leaders stating that condoms come from the devil itself and that it's best to believe that teenagers will be convinced not to have sex, then you might start to understand it.
- Shwaavay, on 11/01/2009, -10/+20Is there an exception for rape or incest?
- duckyinc, on 11/01/2009, -1/+10So you reward people for not ruining their lives? You'd think not having a early pregnancy was enough of a reward. If this goes I want a dollar a day for me not killing people, taking drugs, drunk driving and having sex.
- inactive, on 11/01/2009, -0/+9So we should just give them $2,000 just because? Your employer only gives you money because you do what they want. How typically controlling Republican of them! Your employer should give you money just for being your adorable self!
You only give the gas station money because they give you want you want. STOP BEING SUCH A TYPICAL REPUBLICAN CONTROL FREAK! THAT GAS STATION HAS RIGHTS TOO ,YOU KNOW!
idiot. - h4mx0r, on 11/01/2009, -0/+9I DO WHAT I WANT!
- pappyblueribs, on 11/01/2009, -2/+11Holy crap! I cannot believe how many times I read some basement-dwelling Digger complain "Hey, how come I can't get $2000 for not getting a girl pregnant?!"
They don't pay for sure bets, guys. - GusterBear, on 11/01/2009, -4/+12Vegas will go broke for paying people $2,000 for peeing on the strip.
/s - BlackCow, on 11/01/2009, -1/+9So basically you are saying that all kids should be encouraged to go to college, what a concept.
- InfiniteNothing, on 11/01/2009, -5/+13The reward is for not getting pregnant. I don't think there's an abortion loophole.
- 42Vindictive, on 11/01/2009, -1/+9Yes, there is absolutely no pressure or anything to be a guy. Right.
- kcasper, on 11/02/2009, -0/+8Teaching teens not to do something that their hormones want them to do leads to even more problems. Abstinence has never been proven to convince teens not to have sex.
Abstinence only education works only mediocre at best. True sex education with both abstinence and safe sex works much better. - vault, on 11/01/2009, -0/+8"You're only going to give them money if they do what you want."
They're not obligated to give anyone money. If someone doesn't want to participate, they don't have to. Not like this is government policy here. - Findeton, on 11/01/2009, -0/+7"in European nightclubs/discos generally the men all stand on one side and the women on the other while in America men and women dance together."
I have news for you, he was laughting at you. - inactive, on 11/01/2009, -1/+8You are naive if you tink there aren't a surprising number of teen girls who absolutely DO want to get pregnant.
- xixphz, on 11/01/2009, -0/+7Eugenics were not voluntary, this program is voluntary and so are abortions.
- HurricaneDC, on 11/02/2009, -0/+7Abstinence works, but teaching it isn't as effective as the actual practice. It's like telling a dog not to eat a juicy steak. Not eating a juicy steak is 100% effective (at the goal of not eating meat) but it's very very hard to have the dog obey you.
- inactive, on 11/01/2009, -1/+7Damn! I could have 4 abortions and still come out ahead! Sign me up!
- Bartboy919, on 11/01/2009, -0/+6Just tell the dude to wear rubbers, jeez is it that hard?
- h0dges, on 11/01/2009, -3/+9"She'll get $2,000, unless she's pregnant. If she is, she'll get nothing."
That baby just magically disappears then? O_o -
