If only my profanity filter was off. - SkippyDoorknob, on 05/11/2009, -6/+23I hope none of the students are named Sarah Connor.
- whoreable, on 05/11/2009, -4/+21If kids still treat substitute teachers like they did when I was in school, they better put some laser beams on that *****.
- Nebarik, on 05/11/2009, -11/+22the real trick here was to spot the synthetic children
- PopcornDave, on 05/11/2009, -0/+10Actually I was wondering how long it's going to take the female robot teacher to have sex with one of her students.
- specialK16, on 05/11/2009, -0/+9I wouldn't mind.
- doctechnical, on 05/11/2009, -1/+8"I'll bet you're the reason your father beats your mother."
Those robots can be cold. - Culyt, on 05/11/2009, -2/+9There Japanese, they probably actually do work in school by their own free will.
- doctechnical, on 05/11/2009, -1/+6The real motivation behind Japan's charge into robot technology is that they've got an aging population that isn't getting replaced fast enough by young people, so they're trying to get people used to the idea of having some sort of robot "care-giver" for their twilight years. If you've fallen and can't get up, Mr. Roboto will help you up. Or push down the stairs, I forget.
- alanic, on 05/11/2009, -0/+5WITH FIRE!
- doctechnical, on 05/11/2009, -2/+6In an inner-city public school the robot wouldn't last the first period. And within ten minutes, outside, some young man would be trying to have sex with it.
- marcduke, on 05/11/2009, -0/+4Yes, but then she electrocutes you.
- Maccc, on 05/11/2009, -8/+12Creepy.
I say we kill it. - birdwork, on 05/11/2009, -1/+5By shooting lasers, duh.
- rabidbob, on 05/11/2009, -0/+4We're all *****! Go on say it! This isn't ***** kindergarten!
- jftitan, on 05/11/2009, -1/+4why was this article on a website titled "Pink Tentacle" ? I mean really... Japan, robots, sailor school girls... Crazy *****.
- korvan504521, on 05/11/2009, -1/+4which is moronic. they should teach english. doing anything else is a disservice to the students.
- marcduke, on 05/11/2009, -0/+3It isn't? *****, I'm in the wrong place again....
- Bobby1978, on 05/11/2009, -3/+6She prefers the term 'artificial person' herself.
- chuckDontSurf, on 05/11/2009, -0/+3Imagine how well kids would pay attention if she could do that cool trick with a knife.
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2He could have at least said "frakked" =( Dammit, I refuse to give up my quest to promote that word into mainstream usage.
- Nebarik, on 05/11/2009, -2/+4Think American students would notice?
- Kumaku, on 05/11/2009, -6/+8Let's go for the graveyard... These comments suck!
- SwiftKick34, on 05/11/2009, -0/+2Niiiice
- maz2331, on 05/11/2009, -0/+2For many US schools, they'll offer a "Terminator" model equipped with tasers, pepper-spray, and a .30 caliber machine gun that looks like Chuck Norris and talks like a marine drill sergeant.
- sharkd, on 05/11/2009, -0/+2Isn't that redundant?
- chuckDontSurf, on 05/11/2009, -0/+2Yeah, next thing you know they'll start believing that robots evolved through a process known as 'artificial selection'.
- nullcodes, on 05/11/2009, -1/+3It's a trap! That looks like Michael Jackson!
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -0/+2The biggest problem with the American school system is that the teachers need to teach American children.
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1Huh - most of the substitutes I remember were about as effective in teaching and classroom management as this robot: 'At present, she can’t do much more than call out names and shout orders like “Be quiet.” ' Resolve the creepy face issue and most kids wouldn't even know the difference.
- maz2331, on 05/11/2009, -1/+2Dey dook er JERBS!
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -1/+2judging how we treated substitute teachers in school, this thing would be on fire before the class was over.
- lilmentor3, on 05/11/2009, -1/+2arrr captain
- BorsKaegel, on 05/11/2009, -0/+1... crazy sweet, man. Crazy sweet.
- zagatbuzz, on 05/17/2009, -0/+1This is pretty cool, a remote controlled synthetic teacher...what will they think of next?!
- chris062689, on 05/11/2009, -0/+1Way to completely ruin the first Blood+ reference on digg, ever.
- MiracleBlue, on 05/11/2009, -0/+1Ouch.
- BossKey, on 05/11/2009, -0/+1"I've been scolded...by a machine!!!"
- museamongmen, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1That kid in the second picture looks like Dewey from Malcolm in the Middle.
- punkcat, on 05/11/2009, -1/+2its only developing young minds to eat them later.
- doctechnical, on 05/11/2009, -0/+1@PopcornDave: "More human than human" :)
- Joudoki, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1Am I the only one that immediately thought about synthetic substitution before the idea of a robotic teacher?
- stevelectric, on 05/11/2009, -2/+3borez- Japanese students are well behaved because of their society's constant peer pressure to conform, that robot would never work in US schools.
There should be more use of computers in US schools, the City of Los Angeles has 80 different languages that have to be taught:
http://www.communati.com/steve-lee/think-los-angel ... - mhummel, on 05/12/2009, -0/+0Because an oscillating humming red light would be scary...
- protogenxl, on 05/11/2009, -1/+1I did it for the lulz
- ramunenke, on 05/11/2009, -1/+1From the article
(“Robots that look human tend to be a big hit with young children and the elderly,” Kobayashi recently told the Associated Press. “Children even start crying when they are scolded.”)
Um, no ***** the kid would cry. If Freddie Krueger told me I was talking too loudly when I was in elementary school, I would have cried too. This guy Kobayashi must be confusing "good with kids" with "freaky-shut-your ass-up-or-we-will-assimilate-you scary" -
