Steve Jobs Was Only Half-Right: People Do Read... Online
readwriteweb.com — When Amazon introduced their e-book reader, the Kindle, Steve Jobs made a strong proclamation regarding the book industry that received a lot of attention: "It doesn't matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don't read anymore" As it turns out, he was only half-right. - Stormlor, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2No but reading TechCrunch, Yahoo and other news sources does. Every night around midnight I look into my RSS feeds for the day. It takes me about 3-4 hours every night just reading about 200 tech / blogs
- ipek, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1That's not reading also. I think Jobs was reffering to literature. Because, just like in real life, reading magazines does not count as reading. In my opinion, Jobs is completely right.
- angusm, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Depends where you live and how you get to work. In New York, the buses and subways are full of people reading books - yes, even 'literature' - and there are bookstores all over the city, apparently flourishing.
I actually do a lot of my own reading using a portable device, but it's an aged Palm which I can fill up with free ebooks from Project Gutenberg and other sources, rather than a purpose-built ebook reader. One day I'll probably move my portable library over to an iPhone - even if Mr Jobs says that that no one would ever do such a thing.
