- MatthewK, on 09/07/2008, -1/+4Wow, I thought this was going to be just another worthless article, but it was actually quite useful. I'm in-between jobs at the moment so this is helpful. Thanks for sharing! :)
- sirbeta, on 09/07/2008, -1/+7The typo in your resume rule should be a no brainer that you can't break. If you can't be bothered to make sure your resume is perfect, how could a potential employer really feel confident in you?
- sweeneyowns, on 09/07/2008, -2/+1thanks for stating the obvious CNN.
- Bidofthis, on 09/07/2008, -2/+1Digg up if it's o.k. to have 3 page resume.
Digg down if it's not o.k. to have a 3 page resume.
I am trying to convince a friend who does not have a lot of technical experience that it's NOT o.k. to have a 3 page resume.
An attorney or an engineer it's o.k. but not an aspiring assistant editor with various bookstore experience.- hungerf3, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3I've always gone with a 2 page resume (front and back of a single sheet).
The front is a summary, while the back fills in more details.
I find it also works as a filter, the companies which didn't look at the back were ones I didn't want to work for anyway.
Three pages just feels risky - what if the third page comes loose? With two, you are just using the space that would be wasted anyway.
Another tip - give out copies in a format which can't be edited.
Years ago, before I started using a locked PDF, I found that a headhunting company I was working with made some massive changes without telling me - adding jobs I hadn't worked, and skills that I didn't have.
That interview was a waste of time for myself, and the company I was interviewing with.
