- jkahrs595, on 06/28/2008, -83/+10Scientology is so three months ago.
- timjbart, on 06/28/2008, -2/+6What...in 1995 when this was aired?
- Nitesmoke, on 06/28/2008, -3/+58Some things are timeless. Bashing Scientology isn't an internet meme like Rick Roll or a fad. Its a movement. Scientology is much more dangerous than most people realize.
- Alegoo92, on 06/29/2008, -16/+1Oh no please let's not start this again....
Notice how your last "movement" succeeded in really very little... very little except for annoying the apathetic digg users.? - TheRealToma, on 06/29/2008, -0/+9@Alegoo92
Actually, people are still hitting the streets with flyers, masks and chants trying to educate the unwitting public about the dangers of the cult. The initial impact was big, but the fire still rages on.
- Alegoo92, on 06/29/2008, -16/+1Oh no please let's not start this again....
- Garlik, on 06/28/2008, -5/+6Well why not buy a time machine from the enlightened scientologists then and go back in time to when it wasn't "so three months ago?"
- matthewjhughes, on 06/29/2008, -1/+1Not funny.
- alapoet, on 06/28/2008, -2/+125"Scientology - SO much easier than rational thought!"
- jdbeast00, on 06/29/2008, -12/+1why does this video look like it was made 50 years ago?
- TheAkolyte, on 06/29/2008, -2/+5It was made in 1995
- stubear, on 06/29/2008, -3/+34"Religion - SO much easier than rational thought!"
There, fixed it for you.- banmaster, on 06/29/2008, -2/+17Scientology isn't a religion though.
- 47f0, on 06/29/2008, -1/+26"Scientology isn't a religion though."
Really? Maybe someone should tell the IRS. They've recognized it as a religion for at least a decade. Full religion status.
Which shows what ***** the IRS are. - known, on 06/29/2008, -4/+1And every religion has been a covert mask for socio-economic collusion.
- Naruki, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2It's funny how people in "legitimate" religions get pissed off when you point out the only difference between religions and cults is size and social standing.
Some cults are bigger than others, but they're all filled with people who choose faith over reality.
- GorfTron, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3And so much more expensive.
- Dean177, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Can you believe one of the ones who managed to get out of Scientology went straight to being a Christian, seems like a particular type of person
- jdbeast00, on 06/29/2008, -12/+1why does this video look like it was made 50 years ago?

everyone should go there, it has a wealth of information on this cult, and even gives you the stories of some of it's members and what Scientology did to them.- Evie1851, on 06/29/2008, -1/+17also-( and sorry for the comment spam guys-) here is a list that will more than educate you on Scientology. - becurious, on 06/28/2008, -54/+5Scientology is a body of beliefs and related practices initially created by American speculative fiction author L. Ron Hubbard. The major organization promoting Scientology is the Church of Scientology, a hierarchical organization founded by Hubbard, while independent groups using Hubbard's materials are collectively referred to as the Free Zone. Hubbard developed Scientology teachings in 1952 as a successor to his earlier self-help system, Dianetics. Hubbard later characterized Scientology as an "applied religious philosophy" and the basis for a new religion. Scientology encompasses "auditing", a spiritual rehabilitation philosophy and techniques, and covers topics such as morals, ethics, Purification (a type of detoxification), education and management.
- cheezintern, on 06/29/2008, -2/+10Yo hook my up with some of that LSD you obviously taking.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/29/2008, -9/+9Why is the guy providing non-bias information being burie...oooh right.. Digg.
- KaiserArny, on 06/29/2008, -3/+12If It was non-bias, the information would have been complete, including the negative. This looks like a description you would get from Scientology itself.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/29/2008, -4/+3The negative would be showing bias.
Just because you don't like something doesn't make it unbiased.
Scientology was created to do those things... weather it does them or not is opinion until proven otherwise. Unfortunately it's difficult to prove otherwise because by it's nature, attempting to disprove Scientology makes you a suppressive person. - 47f0, on 06/29/2008, -0/+12Bull. Scientology was created to do exactly one thing - make money for a third-rate pulp sci-fi hack.
- btschul, on 06/28/2008, -3/+103Someone needs to actually infultrate this cult. Start form the beginning at a recruting session and get them inside for months with hidden camera and record everything from the beginnings until they get to ot3 and the alien souls all the way up to ot9 and the sea org and people being thrown overboard and treated as slaves, then show it to the media and get them shut down.
- booyahbitch, on 06/29/2008, -2/+37It would cost way too much $$$ to get to any kind of level within this cult. They choose to pursue rich people for a reason...it costs nearly $350,000 to be "audited" properly...inclusive of being "read" with several hokuspokus meters!
- btschul, on 06/29/2008, -9/+3Fundraisers, donations
- kakwakas, on 06/29/2008, -2/+39I think you'd promptly get killed before that happens.
- bmullins, on 06/29/2008, -2/+34Ethan Hunt, you'll be running point on this mission
- brokenworlds, on 06/29/2008, -4/+54That someone is Will Smith
- btschul, on 06/29/2008, -2/+10please don't kill me tom, I was only joking. Your religion is not an evil money grabbing cult that murders people. No one should infiltrate it.
- PrintScrn12, on 06/29/2008, -2/+9There are plenty of critics that are ex-Scientologists. A lot of the information is already available, including the Xenu story. No need to spend the large time and money investment.
- btschul, on 06/29/2008, -1/+8There is not enough proof. They are still operating.
- PrintScrn12, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Check the Fishman Affidavit where the published material from Operating thetan I to VII, where the material brought copyright lawsuits from the Church of Scientology. You can't bring a copyright lawsuit unless you claim to own the material. This material has been scanned and converted to text, and widely available.
Of course having such a belief is not cause to stop operations. They can believe whatever they want. As for other criticisms that doesn't automatically mean a close shop for the CoS. Knowledge itself of the unethical actions of CoS is not certainly not universal. Hell even knowledge that a group is of the CoS is not guaranteed, for example the stress tests, Citizens Commission on Human Rights, Cult Awareness Network or Narcanon. Certainly though a lot of the recent bad publicity and actions is slowing business the CoS.
- lead2thehead, on 06/29/2008, -5/+2Isaac Hayes is on the job.
- joeydoo, on 06/29/2008, -0/+9Don't worry.. there are people inside doing that very thing.
- ATLien74, on 06/29/2008, -7/+2Nobody's gonna bust on him for misspelling "infiltrate"? Nice.

- yayintertubes, on 06/29/2008, -7/+3That's Nazi. Spelling Nazi.
- ATLien74, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1I was kidding. Just pointing out my surprise that no one else had jumped on you about it. I guess when it's about Scientology the digg spelling freaks are more forgiving.
- MrColdheart, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3join Scientology or cut off your pinkie toe...
Wow now that I made that statement, I find it hard to decide.
- btschul, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2***** you Scientology, you can't keep secrets as long as the interweb exists. You may have won this battle, but the million year battle for earth has just begun!

- FeargusMcDuff, on 06/28/2008, -14/+3I will not look through the window of a man's soul, its not my business.
- Berkana, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Interestingly enough, Scientology's business is not only looking into the windows of men's souls, but breaking that window and shackling that soul so they can keep up their business.
- dildoolielly, on 06/28/2008, -12/+25If the Christians will help us defeat most of the other religions, we can probably defeat the last one without their help.
- kakwakas, on 06/29/2008, -9/+11But sadly not their own. :[
- Lavarock, on 06/29/2008, -7/+3idiot.
- PrintScrn12, on 06/29/2008, -1/+8The religion isn't specifically the issue. The organisation is. There are those who practice Scientology outside of the Church of Scientology, sometimes called Freezoners, who don't draw protest from critics.
The Freezoners are in fact harassed by the Church of Scientology. So if anyone is trying to attack Scientology as a system it is the Church of Scientology.
- kakwakas, on 06/29/2008, -9/+11But sadly not their own. :[

- ghaib, on 06/28/2008, -4/+146The British once again show how to make a proper documentary!
- bluesman3535, on 06/29/2008, -1/+15Yep great undercover work. I believe a major core problem or conspiracy with COS could be exposed in a documentary focusing on how they got a tax free religious status here in America. It's obvious no American news agencies have plans to expose this, so Brits come on over!
- Alegoo92, on 06/29/2008, -7/+2No one questions the randomness of the "reconstructions", with no explanation as to why they were reconstructed? Not even a little?
- sox101, on 06/29/2008, -1/+6They specifically said they were reconstructed due to the journalist's hidden camera being disabled for one reason or another. They used actors to recreate the times she was operating blind.
- Alegoo92, on 06/29/2008, -2/+2For one reason or another is not an explanation... You're really that brainwashed?
- bluesman3535, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0I Question the 'randomness' at which the American FBI raids a house in which a person criticizes the COS under the guise of 'copyright infringement' more than a BBC reconstruction.
- credential101, on 06/28/2008, -53/+4Keep scientology off Digg please

- DarkReign16, on 06/28/2008, -4/+38LOL.

No, seriously - check out his other posts. - boydrew, on 06/28/2008, -1/+4troll. i hope..... lol CoS may be monitoring digg to see who dares question their supreme knowledge, besides they ARE the only ones that can help us lost diggers....
- leakus, on 06/28/2008, -2/+6"...because we are the only ones who can." - This is part of why people think you are not only up for good. You should seriously reflect on what you just said.
- svensksvamp, on 06/28/2008, -16/+9"DIGG ME UP UNLESS UR GAY LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!FAGS!!!!!!"
- JohnsonGotOwned, on 06/29/2008, -2/+8No, seriously, this Ockiel guy put that on another article... Notice the quote marks, people?
- jowSithm, on 06/28/2008, -3/+11WTF do you mean you're the only ones who can help? Dude get over yourself!! Do they teach you to inflate your ego and sense of self importance like that?
- caborobo, on 06/28/2008, -3/+6Are you in any way related to a one James Sears? You're a ***** douche!
- MasterTroll, on 06/29/2008, -4/+6Come on, man. You're giving us a bad rep.
- lead2thehead, on 06/29/2008, -2/+15Your idea of help:
"Here, take this free stress test! Wow, you're really stressed... read this copy of Dianetics and give us a ***** load of money and you'll feel better!" - cheezintern, on 06/29/2008, -3/+7My farts that smell like the shrimp I ate yesterday do more the help humanity than scientology ever will.
- specialK16, on 06/29/2008, -2/+10I actually laughed when I read "we are the only ones who can."
- Darkaged, on 06/29/2008, -3/+2Do you guys quote Portal too now?
- Ramenboy005, on 06/29/2008, -0/+0THE CAKE IS A LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- BSmeter, on 06/29/2008, -2/+7Oh great...Another retard!! You know how you can do good to this world? Don't breed!
- Ghiren, on 06/29/2008, -1/+7If this stuff isn't how we're saying it is, then how is it? Correct us, set the record straight, defend the organization that you belong to and tell us why the "Church" of Scientology isn't as bad as we think... go on... I'll wait...
Oh... I didn't think so... Scientology's policy is to attack the attackers... Never defend, always attack. That's why people mistrust it when they see it in action.
You're free to believe in the Xenu OT3 story. I'm sure that everyone here has seen that South Park ep or gone to xenu.net. Even if we're not Scientologists, we know what the story is. What people protest against is the corrupt organization that hides the truth and tries to bury (metaphorically or literally) the people who speak out about it. If this "Church" really wants to help people then do it for free. Reach out to people because you really want to help, not because you want them to pay for your books or for auditing sessions. - FuckThaMeme, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2I thought Scientologists had a Web filter they had to install. I'm PRETTY DAMN SURE digg would have been added to the list of blocked sites by now...
- AChopra, on 06/28/2008, -4/+9Rawr
- psycoshot, on 06/28/2008, -1/+39I wonder if Scientology ruined Ali's life after seeing this.
RIP - Lisa McPherson - smurf22, on 06/28/2008, -2/+34Wtf was with the panther in the beginning.
- psycoshot, on 06/29/2008, -3/+6I think it is the show's mascot.
- tehknotte, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3That is like my cat Amy in the night when she wants treats.
- MadHarvey, on 06/29/2008, -0/+4I believe this is a reference to the widely held belief that the one truly behind Scientology is Skeletor. The panther is Skeletor's trusty companion Panthor...
- Ravenlark, on 06/28/2008, -16/+2We are legion.
- JohnsonGotOwned, on 06/29/2008, -1/+8If you really are Anon, wow. I just figured out your full name and got a picture of you JUST by looking at your profile.

- JohnsonGotOwned, on 06/29/2008, -1/+8If you really are Anon, wow. I just figured out your full name and got a picture of you JUST by looking at your profile.
- caborobo, on 06/28/2008, -11/+14If it wasn't CoS, it would be something else. It's sad how weak people can be. :(
- ninja0, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2Thats exactly what I said. The kind of people that join this ***** are people with a weak mind. They are broken and battered and ready to give up on life.
- housewarmer, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Well, your particular analysis may be a little extreme, but yes, some people do need the kind of structure things like Scientology provide. And yes it's really sad.
- stupidStan, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Same weak people that buy into Catholicism, Islam, Christianity, etc.
CoS is just less accepted by the masses.
There is sanity in numbers.
- ninja0, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2Thats exactly what I said. The kind of people that join this ***** are people with a weak mind. They are broken and battered and ready to give up on life.
- lead2thehead, on 06/29/2008, -16/+1[insert obligatory comparison to Christianity here]
- stuffradio, on 06/29/2008, -6/+7Comparison:
You're not forced to be a christian, you're not forced to donate money (they will ask for offerings, but it's not mandatory), Christians actually help the world
Scientology: Takes your money, kills you when you try and get out.- lead2thehead, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Yes. Duh. I was making fun of the people who make that comparison. Settle down.
- 47f0, on 06/29/2008, -2/+1Comparison - weak people believing in fantasies with incredible stories. There, that wasn't so hard, was it? Oh, and don't claim Christianity lets people off the hook financially - they do just fine. My mother-in-law left the last of her money and both of her houses to Oral Roberts. I think the only thing she ever received of tangible value was a "prayer cloth".
Welcome to fleecing the gullible, under whatever guise. - acirilo, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2I'm a christian my father was a preacher...and there are a lot of christian leaders that pressure people about money..it's a shame and isn't what the gospel is about.. a disgrace but a LOT of them do it.
- stuffradio, on 06/29/2008, -6/+7Comparison:
- BSmeter, on 06/29/2008, -1/+94Doesn't anyone realize that this is a "religion" started by science fiction writer?!! For crying out loud, he wrote Battle field earth (*vomits a little) !! How mind numbingly dumb do you have to be to fall for their BS.
- AtomicCow, on 06/29/2008, -4/+17I dunno. Lots of folks believe that some cosmic Jewish Zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.
So in comparison, Xenu doesn't seem that far-fetched, at least as far as religious mythology goes.- 47f0, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2Or the Angel hands you some golden tablets, which you're such a ***** that you manage to lose. Or your son springs, full-grown from your forehead. Or the coyote... They are all wonderful, fantastic tales - and completely mythological.
- BSmeter, on 06/29/2008, -1/+0Maybe if Ron didn't live a lavish life and rake up 630 million dollars (thanks to his cult) before he died, he might have a little bit more credibility. When you see all the major "prophets" in this joke of a religion weren't filthy rich, you have to realize its a sham! But since you seems to have the intelligence of a rock, you might disagree!
- Mattja, on 06/29/2008, -0/+8LOL I just realised prophets and profits sounds the same.
- AnOMNOMymous, on 06/29/2008, -1/+2Common sense, thank you.
Every time someone bashes scientology for how ridiculous the story is, I ask them if they're religious.
"Why, yes, I'm a Christian!"
^ If that's their response, I skip the lecture and punch them in the face.
- megamod, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2now you tell me? I already signed my billion year contract with sea org =/
- stupidStan, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1People still haven't figured out that the Bible was written by random idiots... I don't think they will put together this riddle either.
- niv4lac, on 06/29/2008, -5/+42scientology is retarded
- carpespasm, on 06/29/2008, -1/+26No, it's not retarded. It's exploitative, evil, manipulative, and preys on the weak-minded, weak-willed, and those who are in bad times, but they're not retarded. They've learned to manipulate people, public opinion, and governments faster than most cults ever do, which is why they're either seen as under the radar or just a kooky religion by most people. Don't underestimate them.

- bluesman3535, on 06/29/2008, -3/+25Mind control data is valuable! So valuable you can get a tax free status to turn it over or improve it. Sinister stuff here. How is it Germany stands up to this nonsense but America and Britain caved in and called it an official religion? See my first sentence. Kudos to the German government for not 'selling out' the minds of their citizens.
- GreenAlien, on 06/29/2008, -0/+9That's not correct. The CoS is not an official religion in Britian. We just allow them to put offices here, target the British, and put the word "Church" over their doors. It's only an official religion in the US, and that's because they were allowed to ravage out of control, break into government offices and steal documents about them, and infiltrate. A blatant example of how polital correctness ***** up instead of growing a backbone and banning it outright. Agreed though, kudos to the Germans for banning it, as they should.
- bluesman3535, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0Good news! I can go to Britain and market left over 'Pet Rocks' in a storefront sign as magical youth stones, without any oversight! Better yet, Church of Youth Stones!

- Razor512, on 06/29/2008, -2/+31their methods of control are similar to that which is thought to interrogators, they just take it to a new level
they start off by breaking the persons will power and making them depressed, when your depressed and frightened, you are unable to think clearly and you will listen to almost anyone else who has more self control and will power than you do
it is the same reason why we lost so many rights and freedoms after 9/11 many people were depressed or frightened and looked towards the government and they took advantage of that and took more control over the people (happens after every single attack or tragedy )
once Scientology gains some control over you, they make you take courses which they slowly make you feel even worst which allows them to gradually take more control over you, until you wake up one day and find your self insanely depressed and in a ton of debt - gryphon50, on 06/29/2008, -1/+20I just can't believe there are enough feeble-minded people to keep this thing going. - monsterette, on 06/29/2008, -2/+7Mind control...it's so frustrating how organized groups (in the name of religion or employment) persuade, manipulate, and abuse people during the weakest most desperate point in their life by abusing authority, knowledge, and power. Not all people in the groups are guilty, but it almost seems like a game for those who are guilty. Perhaps once it starts, it becomes an addiction for the powers that be, the "game" gets more destructive, and the consequences become more radical with no regards for the victim. Often studying laws so that the abuse can be freely done and avoid lawsuits. This does happen on the job too.
This is a very good video. ....it needs to be monitored.- GreenAlien, on 06/29/2008, -0/+5"it needs to be monitored."
It needs to be BANNED. Humanity doesnt need money crazed organizations deliberately screwing up people's mental heath on such huge scales like this. This doesnt contribute to a more stable world. The world has enough issues to deal with without money grabbing scam artists from America making things worse. There's one of these cult offices a couple miles from me and I live the other side of the planet. The US needs to get a grip and shut down the root of this organization in Florida.
People laugh at the vulnerable ones who fall for this *****, but the organization is geared to sucking in people when they're at a low point, making them feel even worse about themselves, and progressively and systematically screwing with their mental state before they realize what's happened.
Not everyone has heard about Scientology. Unless you have, you're not going to be prepared from the outset to avoid this crap. That's the problem here. We need to spread the word and educate everyone for when they get approached in the street from some scammer asking you to do a personality questionaire.
Because this cult has amassed so many millions in reserves to manipulate the justice system, people get legally bullied who can't afford legal fees when put on the receiving end of their unbelievably agressive tactics. We need an organisation setup to lend a financial hand to anyone targeted by the CoS.
Most people don't give a ***** about society and others in general. But look at what the CoS did to the town of Clearwater. They've practically taken it over and driven everyone else out. How would you feel if this cult systematically took over your home town? Sounds far fetched? This organisation has set out right from the beginning to target the entire world's population. It's in their agenda to infiltrate as many government organizations as possible.
The CoS are a huge threat and they need to be dealt with now before it gets out of control.

- Gm7Cadd9, on 06/29/2008, -18/+3So, how do you define the difference between a religion and a cult? Does religion just have more followers?
I, like many diggers, am an atheist. However I dont understand where all the animosity towards Scientology comes from. To me they aren't any crazier than any other religion. We laugh and poke fun at them for thinking aliens came to earth... while I dont agree with their version I still find it easier to swallow than Christian mythology.
Yes, Scientologists are nuts, but aren't all religions nuts? Do we not have the choice to chose which religion to be a part of? Isn't that part of what makes the free world free? No one is FORCING you to join any religion.
So go ahead, call them crazy, make fun of them sure. But this whole "***** scientology" bit is pushing it.- Lavarock, on 06/29/2008, -0/+13It's not the myths. It's the practices. Watch the bleeding video please. In a breath, Scientology hypnotizes people into giving away their money and killing themselves.
- thedeviluno, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2Shill !!!
- GreenAlien, on 06/29/2008, -1/+12"So go ahead, call them crazy, make fun of them sure. But this whole "***** scientology" bit is pushing it. "
Then you arent aware of how aggressive and dangerous this cult is. I'm atheist too, but dont put Christains, as they exist today, in the same camp as Scientologists. Most people, while they think the idea of being infested with aliens is silly, don't have a problem with someone believing it if they choose to. That's not the issue people have with the CoS. The problem is the way the CoS break people down mentally, aggressively try to milk every victim for every penny they're worth (literally), completely isolate them from friends and family, repeatedly harass people who try to leave, aggressively and systematically attack and discredit through fabrication anyone who tries to speak out about them, infiltrate governments departments (and in a famous case, break into one to steal evidence) - the list goes on and on. None of this can be attributed to Christains. - GypsyJazz, on 06/29/2008, -1/+6I'd contend the idea it's "no crazier" than Christianity on the basis that there may in fact have been a historical Jesus in which stories could have been based. Speculating an entire cosmology in which several modern ideas are alien thought implants meant to control us because Earth is a prison planet has absolutely no grounding in reality to begin with. Never-the-less, I really don't care what they believe as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.
And therein lies the problem. The Church of Scientology hurts people. I am by no means an apologist for Catholics, and I am an atheist myself. However, the Pope recently apologized for all who were hurt and abused by the seemingly rampant peodphilia within the Catholic Church. These people were acting AGAINST their religion's dogma in commiting these abuses.
In the Church of Scientology however, it it official policy that Church critics (or suppressive persons) have no human rights and may be "sued, tricked, lied to or destroyed". Look up "fair game". I urge you as a fellow free-thinking individual to do your research on this topic.
The Church of Scientology's medical negligence, and human rights absues against both their critics and parishioners are well documented and outright disgusting. There is a lot of information out there, and I think the home page of Enturbulation.org contains many valuable links. - Alegoo92, on 06/29/2008, -2/+1Oh shut the ***** up i don't care what you think just because your atheist.
Besides, I'm agnostic (and not so much up my ***** that I'm sure of something just as much as religious people are of the opposite)
:]- GreenAlien, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2"Besides, I'm agnostic (and not so much up my ***** that I'm sure of something just as much as religious people are of the opposite)"
Wow, aggressive words. You must be right then.
Believing something doesn't exist doesn't equal being able to prove it doesn't exist. It also doesn't mean that the likelihood of something existing is the same as something not existing. Professor Dawkins is also atheist and he's dedicated his life to the subject. Go argue with him if you feel so passionately about the semantics of the words.
If someone said to me that there are self-aware dishcloths orbiting Pluto which polish it and steer it around the sun, I wouldn't believe it. You can sit on the fence with your fantastic fuzzy wisdom and say there's a tiny chance it's true and therefore you're going to be agnostic between the two possibilities, but sometimes two possibilities are not equally likely. The chances of this scenario are wildly unlikely. If there was any credible evidence whatsoever to suggest it might be true, then I may be agnostic, but there's not. Likewise there's no evidence or need whatsoever for a God which created or governs our planet, therefore I don't believe it. Some people have an uncanny ability to believe in things without a scrap of evidence, but don't expect me to be agnostic to it.
Take Scientology for an example. Some wacko sci-fi author comes up with the concept of aliens infesting volcanos, and bombs going off which released them into our bodies, and it's their job to remove them (for huge sums of money, naturally). Can I conclusively disprove this? probably not. Do I believe it? Not for a second. And there's no way I'm going to remotely entertain this ***** by sitting on the fence and being agnostic about it. The other religions are no more likely to me.
One reason I can be so confident about it and "be so much up my *****" as you put it, is because it's clear that humanity have evolved to readily subscribe to this rubbish. Probably to fit in and be accepted by groups of people. If you don't fit in, you'll be singled out and unlikely to propagate your genes. So the human mind has evolved a weakness to this. After all, if you had to live in a tribe who believed in all kinds of wacky things, if you don't come around to their way of thinking you're not going to last very long on your own. - Miknarf, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1If your not a theist then by definition your an atheist.
