- RidiculousHat, on 12/04/2007, -0/+19I was really hoping that the experiment would involve hitting one of them in the head...
- wilsgrant, on 12/04/2007, -1/+18It just me or did he seem to attack the non-special beanie equipped head way harder?
- capiCrimm, on 12/04/2007, -0/+10which is how a bullet proof vest works.
- theHM, on 12/04/2007, -0/+10The slow blade penetrates the shield
- PiGuy, on 12/04/2007, -0/+7Similar to liquid body armor that's been in the work for some time now: http://science.howstuffworks.com/liquid-body-armor ...
It's a shear-thickening substance thats malleable until a great instantaneous force is applied, at which point the molecules clump together and stiffen up.
Last I heard they were experimenting with making it magnetic to enhance its capabilities even more. - capiCrimm, on 12/04/2007, -0/+6Would it protect against a knife or other sharp objects as well?
- thecosmicpope, on 12/04/2007, -0/+6and a regular hard hat. It's no more dangerous than regular safety equipment we have at the moment. It does the same job but with the advantage of being able to change shape.
- mariowario, on 12/04/2007, -0/+5He completely ruined the experiment by hitting the second one harder. Dude almost lost his balance hitting the second beanie while the first one was nothing but a simple tap.
- Regulator980, on 12/04/2007, -0/+5I just thought of an interesting idea. How about using that material to make a pair of gloves to use for self-defense? Harmless and flexible under normal usage, but in cases of self-defense the material would harden around each punch making it an impromptu weapon.
- inactive, on 12/04/2007, -0/+4So what is this stuff again exactly? I think its really cool, I've seen a video of him wearing this as a kneepad and having someone bash his knee with a shovel. Either no problem, or his knees are made of some kind of (professor chaos voice) titanium alloy.
- ebaymag0t, on 12/04/2007, -0/+2nope. i was thinking the same thing.
- PiGuy, on 12/04/2007, -0/+2http://science.howstuffworks.com/liquid-body-armor ...
- jo3design, on 12/04/2007, -2/+4buy it for yourself: http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/cubegoodies/5ac8 ...
- dan0964, on 12/04/2007, -0/+2why are people digginfg him down ? that is the right stuff
- iguanapunk, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1This is taken from Channel 5's The Gadget Show. Does anybody know where I can find previous episodes online?
- iPissExcellence, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1lol @ red man hiding. the other ones were pretty good.
- isaactwito, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1That has to be the coolest material invented in the last twenty years.

For those interested - baron162, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1i thought the same thing.
- Jonjonjonny, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1I hate this programme. Especially when they rate stuff by giving it "G's".
- CircleFusion, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Keep the @#$@#& camera still!
That is all. - JohnFlux, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1I don't know what they use, but it's easy to make similar stuff.
Mix cornstarch with a bit of water. If you don't have cornstarch, use custard powder (which is 99% cornstarch)
and have fun :) - Bitties, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Yeah, ther was way more force inserted in the second one.
- jessicamedler, on 07/17/2008, -0/+0keep it up
jessica - JohnFlux, on 12/04/2007, -0/+0As I replied to another poster, just mix cornstarch and water. put it in plastic bag if you want. Then have a play with it. For cornstarch you can adjust the threshold by adding water. The more water, the higher the threshold.
- vsrkm, on 12/04/2007, -0/+0That is so cool! Think of all the benefits such a material could have for other extreme sports as well...or really, anything that requires you to protect your head.
- themastersb, on 12/04/2007, -2/+1It seems that the melon he broke got hit much harder.
- inactive, on 12/04/2007, -2/+1What if you get a hammer hit on the side of the beanie, does it only protect on the cone shaped top?
- acmeinc, on 12/04/2007, -2/+0Shadowrun armor! Now I need a fully loaded cybereye and an internal air tank and I am ready to hit the streets.
- kaamil60, on 12/04/2007, -5/+0That's a Snowboard hat.
- sdm011, on 12/04/2007, -6/+1If it completely resists force than that means the same amount of force is being applied to the persons head, just more spread out. This still seems to be very dangerous.
