- Anand999, on 03/11/2009, -2/+20Why is this such a big surprise to the submitter? The Harry Potter series has millions of fans around the world, so it's no big surprise something as rare as this would fetch a hefty price.
Anyway, regardless of what you think about the Harry Potter books, the series has gotten more kids (and plenty of adults too) to willingly crack open a book and use their imaginations instead of watching TV, which is a good thing. I can't think of any other book in recent history that has had such a big impact. - DRFTME, on 03/11/2009, -2/+18you need to spend money on ***** you dont need to bring the economy up
People build crap and people buy that crap....thats how it works - Duncster, on 03/11/2009, -5/+21Hermione
- DeathRay2K, on 03/11/2009, -1/+15I've got a first edition of book 4, can I have my 19k now please?
- Puppetfunk, on 03/11/2009, -2/+15Only Geeks know basic Math? Why I must be an Uber-Geek. I took Algebra.
- WibWobble, on 03/11/2009, -1/+13No, your getting ewoks confused with chocobos.

There's the let me google it for you thing, but... eh. - englertron, on 03/11/2009, -2/+8What's this about a prequel?
- scarz99, on 03/11/2009, -2/+7Could have just bought a Kindle 2 and like 20,000 books for it.
- d2002, on 03/11/2009, -1/+5I'm still hoping my #1 issue of She Hulk will put my kids through college.
- Paulish, on 03/11/2009, -0/+4The story's kinda bland. It's about this guy named Dumbledore Calrissian who needs to return the ring back to Mordor.

- SchrodingersCar, on 03/11/2009, -1/+5Since it seems to be the latest Digg trend, I now imagine "WTF" after every headline. I do it so you don't have to write it.
- GrooTheWanderer, on 03/11/2009, -1/+5I think that's the second book. This is the one where Jen the Gelfling has to journey to Iscandar in his Tardis to do battle with Ming the Merciless, leader of the Vogons.
- h4mx0r, on 03/11/2009, -0/+4It still could have been spent on something a little more worthwhile...
- WibWobble, on 03/11/2009, -1/+4And nothing else.
- inactive, on 03/11/2009, -4/+7WTF in the title is always annoying, but hte last two to get to the front page were not What the ***** moments AT ALL.
- Chompy, on 03/11/2009, -1/+4It's cool to hate on Harry Potter these days, it's the Jurassic Park/Titanic/etc of the younger generation. They'd rag on that Twilight vampire crap but that's just too easy.
- gentryholdem, on 03/11/2009, -3/+6Ummm, the book is probably worth 10 times that in 20 years. Thats a good investment.
- SillyRabbits, on 03/11/2009, -1/+4Apparently you failed remedial economics. If you weren't aware, people buying useless crap creates jobs and businesses for the people that make the useless crap. Those people, in turn, spend their money on useless crap creating jobs for other people. See how that works? Your genius advice is the formula for subsistence living where we live in mud huts and use seeds as currency.
- dawglse, on 03/11/2009, -0/+3Dallas may still be religious, but we are no were even ***** close to being backwards. I know quite a few atheists.
I will admit though, all the tiny little redneck low-population towns ARE backwards, but not Dallas, Houston, and Austin. Not to mention they all voted Democratic in the recent election. - dawglse, on 03/11/2009, -0/+3Ughhh... DALLAS.
Not redneck ass-backwardsville, TX.
Dallas is just like any other major city you know.
I live here. - Georgy, on 03/11/2009, -2/+4Just because you guys don't like Harry Potter, doesn't mean nobody else does.
Besides us geeks have spent millions on star trek and star wars *****. - Nicksname1, on 03/11/2009, -1/+3"The winning bidder was a vintage comic book collector from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. His wife is a fan of the Harry Potter series."
(source: http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/090309/entertai ... ) - frepnog, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2someone please explain to me how there is a "rare" copy of a modern book published only a scant few years ago.
/nothing new is rare
//that is why modern comics are mostly worthless - Chicken, on 03/11/2009, -2/+4sweet luscious jailbait.
- Abscon, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2Try waiting about 50+ years.
- RobotBuddha, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2When I heard harry potter and UAE, my first reaction was "Man, I wouldn't be surprised if someone steals it from them to burn due to glorifying witchcraft." Then I remembered that people here in the US burned harry potter books for that reason.
You know, say what you want about someone spending that amount of money on a harry potter book. It's still exemplifies a far better aspect of humanity than a lot of what we see on a daily basis. - Avenger772, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2Bruce Willis is a ghost.
- ithejosh, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2Word. Dallas still is somewhat more religious.. Austin is the best city in TX.
- ChiliMac, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2I was the same way. The read 1 book when I was bored. Next thing I knew I was hooked.
- Chompy, on 03/11/2009, -1/+3Dude, we're only talking about $19k; it's more like a Kindle 2 and about 20 books.
- Bic823, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2I've got a first edition of that book. English (well, Canadian) version. Where's my 19k?
- rlbond86, on 03/11/2009, -1/+3Do you write WTF after every headline you submit or just the ones that are front page material?
- Chompy, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2"It's still exemplifies a far better aspect of humanity than a lot of what we see on a daily basis."
Yeah it's great how royal families and other elites in the Middle East spend billions on jewelry, yachts, and personal jets while keeping their serfs awash in politically useful poverty, ignorance, and hatred. - inactive, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2I'm glad someone else saw it.
- Digg32539, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2lol. Keep dreaming,,,
- GrooTheWanderer, on 03/11/2009, -1/+2He put $19,000 of his money into circulation in exchange for something that nobody else wants (judging from the comments here). That doesn't hurt the economy unless he charged it to his credit card.
