- AmyVernon, on 02/25/2009, -11/+197Is this 2009 or 1909?
- charlie6969, on 02/25/2009, -11/+159a 14 yr. old black child is sentenced to 7 yrs. in jail for shoving a HALL MONITOR and a 14 yr. old white child gets off for ARSON?
WOW!
I think the fact that they have issues to talk about is a huge understatement. GEESH! - SEOAly, on 02/25/2009, -15/+110Can we say small-minded, backwoods, toothless, country bumpkins? You can't mediate a situation like this. If these people are so hateful and sick to think this is in anyway acceptable in the first place, there is no sense in attempting to engage them in a constructive conversation. They should be fired immediately. End of story.

(903) 783-3500 - zKman, on 02/26/2009, -5/+89"It's not racist, it's southern heritage!"™
- raphaeltmnt, on 02/25/2009, -6/+88That's scary.
- acmaurer, on 02/25/2009, -9/+86The noose has been "displayed for months"??? What's wrong with everyone down there?
- maz2331, on 02/26/2009, -1/+55On Digg, it's 2009, in some towns in Texas (and western PA, for that matter), it's still 1859.
- COLiNx86, on 02/26/2009, -1/+52That really is a terrible thing, Paris, TX sucks (no it really does, very boring town)
P.S. We're not all like that in Texas :) - Anim8tor, on 02/25/2009, -5/+56What thought process went on here? The story said mediation efforts devolved into shouting matches. I would be ashamed of this behavior!
- Murrabbit, on 02/26/2009, -4/+53The funny thing is that if they put anything in place to specifically harass homosexuals then it would have been perfectly legal.
- KMFDM781, on 02/26/2009, -6/+53Is that the "Real America" that Palin was always talking about?
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -7/+50Then Jasper said "Look here, if anyone's gonna have sex with my sister, it's gonna be *me*."
- editorsusan, on 02/25/2009, -5/+45Quote from the company's lawyer, "I can promise you that in the event we uncover that any of our people participated in the display of any of those matters, they may very well lose their jobs."
Well, I guess he told them!
This is an absolutely appalling story. - Scape89, on 02/26/2009, -1/+38Confederate flag by itself: "I guess he is one of those 'southern pride' types."
Noose by itself: "Hmm that's a little weird."
Confederate flag with noose: "OK this is ***** up." - inactive, on 02/26/2009, -2/+37Awww The good ol' "other" America we heard so much about...
- aufte, on 02/26/2009, -3/+37You... you mean it's possible that Obama's election *doesn't* mean America beat racism?
- Ventolin, on 02/26/2009, -6/+39Sigh...things like this make me sad to be Texan.
- caireneguy, on 02/25/2009, -7/+37Tell me why i'm not suprised!
It's pretty much similar to what i recall to be the case with the Geena Six.
Racism is still alive! - anixmander, on 02/26/2009, -2/+30RTFA
- lazybuoy, on 02/26/2009, -3/+31Racism is alive and well everywhere. It's just that in the town of Paris, Texas it comes in the form of a noose, a confederate flag, and 14 year old black kids getting seven years for pushing someone.
- steelreserve211, on 02/26/2009, -1/+29Mental note: change vacation plans back to Hawaii from Paris, TX.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -1/+28There are towns in every state like this, they just get cut off and the predominant culture just stays rooted in. Most people probably aren't even very racist and just don't want to go against the status quo. In small communities, going against the pack is suicide even in modern times. It's not that difficult of a concept to understand and it's been like this all over the world for all of human existence. Study human geography and social interaction for more info. It's always easier as a person to spot flaws and differences in others rather than yourself and that is behavior that is simply instinctual for humans.
In Africa, small tribes regularly fight for similar reasons. Humans never change, get used to it. Just don't condemn an entire group of people (Texans, Southerners, Americans) for the actions of a small few. We only have our brains and logic to stop these trends, it's just harder in tiny towns that have been cut off from normal culture, but one thing that doesn't help is alienating everyone because of a few, that is stepping backwards. - Ajajadude, on 02/26/2009, -0/+26It's ***** that they claim supervisors never saw any of that stuff. Being in a supervisory role myself, I can tell you it's hard not to notice "little" things like a noose or a Confederate flag, especially after I've received complaints.
- Yez70, on 02/26/2009, -1/+27Well, if mediation didn't work - digg can. I happen to be reviewing a contract with their parent company : http://www.turner-industries.com/
It involves a contract worth millions of dollars. In the morning, I'll be canceling it and letting them know why. They won't be getting any more business from our company.
Feel free to contact them and let them know how you feel as well. - ProfessorSYM, on 02/26/2009, -1/+25Don't forget:
tglascock@turner-industries.com - buddyw, on 02/26/2009, -2/+25East Texas has a lot of racists. They are not all racist - even in Paris there are good people, but it's bad. My grandparents live in that area and they have told me awful stories. It's shocking to the point that it's surreal.
- StormyAaron, on 02/26/2009, -3/+26What about ignorant blacks? Ignorant <insert race here>? By claiming that only one group is and should be punish for it would be its self racist.
- anteup, on 02/26/2009, -2/+21Theres nutjobs everywhere. I live a few hours from Paris. This was just as much of a disgusting shocker for me as it was for anyone else.
- Anim8tor, on 02/25/2009, -2/+21Want more evidence other than the noose and confederate flag that appeared inside the building?
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 02/26/2009, -4/+22I thought I was gonna get Onion'd. I was sadly disappointed.
- rrasco, on 02/26/2009, -5/+23Please be respective and understand that not all Texans believe what some of our less intelligent neighbors may. This is also typical small town beliefs that are common (of any race) in small towns in all states. All Texans are not like this, so don't respond in the typical, ***** Texas manner.
- sgnpkd, on 02/26/2009, -6/+24French people....:(
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -4/+21Your intolerance on intolerance is intolerable.
- Teile, on 02/26/2009, -2/+19***** that. This is America. You should be able to be of any ethnicity and live whereever you want without fear of threat or violence.
- JesusSaidSo, on 02/26/2009, -2/+19Exactly! This right here is the "real" America in all its glory! Good ol' small town values.
- maz2331, on 02/26/2009, -3/+20Richard Pryor said it best - "You go down there looking for justice, that's what you'll find - Just Us."
- bryceman111, on 02/26/2009, -3/+19Oh, don't worry. It's not a noose. It's a loop to signify that racists arguments are full of holes...
/s - inactive, on 02/26/2009, -0/+16White people aren't the only intolerant ones. Being a minority, I've seen/encountered racism that came from blacks, asians, and indians as well as white folks.
Racism will never completely vanish as long as there are differences of skin color/religious beliefs/cultures/etc..., but hopefully we, as a society, can diminish its effects to the point where it does not harm others. - judicar, on 02/26/2009, -3/+18I'm from Texas and this doesn't suprise me at all. The Texas-Louisiana border area is home to some of the most small-minded, ignorant, racist ***** you'd ever want to meet. It's also home to that little gem of a town Vidor,TX. The rest of Texas isn't like this, I blame the influence from Louisiana .
- Murrabbit, on 02/26/2009, -1/+16Why is this comment being dugg down? It's true. I don't like it, but that's the state of EEO laws in the US!
- ThatsMatt, on 02/25/2009, -5/+20Simply unbelievable.
- sigmaman2, on 02/26/2009, -1/+16The Black employees have the balls to show up there everyday. The people that put up the noose and the graffiti are the wusses that won't show themselves.
- UNCCEJ1010, on 02/26/2009, -1/+16The thing is, there is an argument to be made along that line for the confederate flag.
Now, how someone could even start to use the same logic (a word I use with some hesitancy) for a damn noose, I'd almost like to see... - JRowe3388, on 02/26/2009, -1/+15I think he's being sarcastic.
- Duffle, on 02/26/2009, -0/+14Heh. Hehe.
- Fleagleman, on 02/26/2009, -1/+15This is just another day in the 'piney woods' of East Texas. Trust me, folks. I grew up near there. Black people have driven through those pines at night, never to come out the other side.
- publiclurker, on 02/26/2009, -0/+14What did Mexico ever do to you?
- publiclurker, on 02/26/2009, -0/+13It's about the state maintaining the right to keep slaves.
- Anim8tor, on 02/25/2009, -2/+15But the boss wouldn't approach them, the black employees allege.
