- sorbix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Nuclear power is so much cleaner than coal or natural gas power its completely ridiculous to claim otherwise. People are still scared of nuclear power for some illogical reason.
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That is pure appeal to the fear of the ignorant. Nuclear power plants react uranium at subcritical rates; a plane hitting a nuke plant would do plenty of damage, just as a plane hitting any power plant would; it would not result in a nuclear explosion such as a nuclear weapon.
Saying we should not continue with nuclear power just because a plane could hit a plant is about as stupid as saying that we should not continue with skyscrapers because a plane could hit one. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2> Berkana, it's just a scenario of something that COULD happen.
> Nuclear Power Plants are in no means good for the environment.
Actually, I believe that the containment rooms of most nuclear power plants are designed to survive plane hits, earth quakes and a lot more.
Showing a commercial of a airliner "hitting" a power plant just exploits the latent 9/11 fear that people have etched in their long term memory. It is manipulation, plain and simple (and intelligent people should resent that).
Talk to me sometime about how much we're spending on airport and cargo screening, when what we should really do is simply seal cockpits from the main cabin.... the retrofit costs would be one time and probably cost less than 5 years of airport screening. - ollj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1blair whitch project + anti-drug commertcial = total crap!
- ollj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1illogical reason by your definition includes radioctive waste for hundredthousands of years contaminating whater and the production of greenhouse gasses by nuclear plants.
