N.J. raises bar for pupil test scores -
nj.com — "New Jersey made it harder yesterday for public school students to prove their proficiency on state exams -- a change that could cause more schools to run afoul of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. ... [Until now] students scoring as low as 33 percent correct had been deemed proficient."

- JerichoSam, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I thought it was bad when only 55 percent of students in my area were deemed proficient. How much worse, then, to know that in some cases they only had to score 33% to be called "proficient" in a subject?
- AmyVernon, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I agree. I'd rather the state run afoul of NCLB than declare students who can only answer 1/3 of the questions correctly as "proficient." And I live in Jersey.
