Most Unique and Interesting Review of a Pen (Pilot G2) Ever!
penquest.wordpress.com — If a pen could ever be described in more eloquent prose I have never seen it. This blogger makes reading about pens fascinating with her latest blog post about the Pilot G2.
- 1000 diggs
- digg it
- buffyangel108, on 05/18/2008, -15/+96PS. crap writer.
- psychoticD, on 05/18/2008, -1/+44If that's eloquent prose then I'm ***** Santa Claus.
- thumperings, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2They are junk compared to a Pentel Energel. I'm a huge pen snob, and this is the best pen I've ever used.
- 4rp4n3t, on 05/18/2008, -3/+10You're ***** Santa Claus? Is he nice and tight? Does he push back? You have a duty to tell us...
- Netrilix, on 05/18/2008, -0/+8I think the classic "Good if you need to write on paper" review was written much better:
http://digg.com/odd_stuff/Very_Good_If_You_Need_to ...- FatLoser, on 05/18/2008, -2/+2That's what the digger who wrote a crap story on his blog and then submitted it to digg, was trying to emulate. It's only funny the first time, and only when you have a knack for humor and general writing talent, both of which the spammer's blog miserably fail at.
- rrbest, on 05/18/2008, -0/+12"Even people who are normally not picky about pens claim to like it a lot." Isn't that to be expected?
- ShrimpCrackers, on 05/18/2008, -0/+4Yes because Pilot pens are generally very good. Debate teams use them a lot. But alas I would say Pilots greatest pen is the Pilot Hi-Tec-C. Its cheap, writes smooth as silk, with the exception of the 0.3 variant which uniquely feels like a pencil. This pen even has fan sites in Japan and Taiwan. It's no wonder its the most popular pen amongst manga artists and writers in Asia.
- tkotam, on 05/18/2008, -0/+6Ahh...... Now I know where the guy who got fired from Tom's Hardware went...
- DownkeyKowng, on 05/18/2008, -0/+3"They look quite clean at first, but the clear barrel showing off the yellow/orange gel(?) at the end of the refill just looks yucky, and golden color label on the clip just looks cheesy." A warm chestnut of eloquent writing my ass.. and as fascinating as a curled up dog turd.
- LongShlong, on 05/18/2008, -0/+3That's a poor use of grammar. Something cannot be the "most unique." - Fail.
- CrushThemTorg, on 05/18/2008, -1/+3Willy-nilly quotes, use of slashes, no hyphenation where necessary, onomatopoeia. Dreadful writing.
Interesting topic, though.
On one hand, I've got incredible brand loyalty to Zebra (it's the metal barrel), but on the other I've had people tell me how awesome these are. Actual people I talk to. - deenoop, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1thoroughly disappointed in blogger and poster. lame.
- dmoore764, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Yeah, this sucks, plus it seems to be a rip-off of this much funnier Amazon review:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R3QR3AC2WXWHIT/ref= ...
- psychoticD, on 05/18/2008, -1/+44If that's eloquent prose then I'm ***** Santa Claus.
- theblueprint, on 05/18/2008, -5/+112I've used nothing but Pilot G2s for years. They're (imo) the best pen you can buy at a typical office supply store, regardless of price.
- Thater, on 05/18/2008, -0/+9The only pen I use is the Uni-Ball Vision Micro (.5 mm).
This review hasn't swayed me.- thumperings, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1I love those, but the weird plastic thread strips out sometimes. Try a pentel energel you'll never go back to anything else. It's the finest cleanest line I've ever found outside of a drafting sets. It's even better than the old reliable Pilot precise V5 .
- GeneralAntilles, on 05/18/2008, -0/+5I'm with you here. Those Uni-Balls are fantastic pens, though I've recently started using the Uni-Ball Signo (Micro) which has the advantage of being retractable.
- danconia, on 05/18/2008, -0/+5I agree these G2s are excellent. I started off just using the black 07 ones that my dad keeps around the house then realized how cool the blue one's writing looks. Then I made the plunge to 05 and am actually completely sold on it! No joke it actually makes jotting down notes fun. The width of the ink flow is just perfect, not too heavy but still never running close to dry. Just the feel of the ink on the paper makes me look forward to it's next use. Glad to see some others appreciate a solid pen also.
- CountZepplin, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1I used to use Bic Z4s, but then I had trouble finding them so I switched to Pilot's Precise Grip.
I like the needle point :) - lamiaconfitor, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1for the price and quality of pen, G2 is hella good. its my fav. zebras, on the other hand, (one of the bloggers favs) are tacky, chap aluminum and plastic ballpoint pens... they just look tacky
- ShrimpCrackers, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1You have yet to try the Pilot Hi-Tec-C, theres a reason why this particular pen has fansites and that people buy them in boxes.
- Kazanoe, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1I'm a fan of my Hi-tecpoint V5 Grip from Pilot. the ink flows really well. The only problem I have with it is if you press down hard as you write, the tip has a tendency to bend, and eventually break.
- TangTKE402, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2This guy doesn't indicate if he used a .07 or a .05, because there is a huge difference between the two. The .05 is scratchy, while I believe the .07 writes smooth as buttah.
Also, he doesn't mention the surprisingly rewarding feel of the click. something about the way it clicks in feels so good. Also the fact that the spring is locked in place at the bottom, so it won't be lost when you unscrew it is genius.
All in all, I believe this is the best pen out there, and there's a reason you see it everywhere, its too bad this reviewer can't write. - Asvetic, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1When I worked at Staples, this was my recommended choice when people came looking for a new pen... it's cheap and writes beautifully. The Uniballs were always a close second.
- Kzoo, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1I prefer the G2 pros, but yeah, best pen I've found, keep going back to it. I'm going to be sad when they quit making it (like my favorite kind of mechanical pencil :( , but that was pentel). Prefer the thickness called "fine", extra fine is almost scratchy as mentioned above.
- CiDaemon, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2I've always used the G2 but one thing that constantly bothers me is that the ink dries very slowly and is somewhat water-soluble. However, you can replace the cartridges with Mont Blancs (!!) and I've been doing this ever since learning about it...

- Thater, on 05/18/2008, -0/+9The only pen I use is the Uni-Ball Vision Micro (.5 mm).
- monsterette, on 05/18/2008, -3/+35....I'm obsessed with pens...always have been...pilots do write and handle well.
- tgunner, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1My favorite pen is the blue Pilot P-700. I buy them in large lots on eBay.
- antiorblkflag9, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1I think I'm gonna step up to the Pilot Razor. I write ridiculously small and I need a pen that doesn't bleed and has a very fine tip.
- crazycraka, on 05/18/2008, -0/+0Yeah pilots own. I remember back when I was in junior high, I used to steal an assload from Genovese, I would literally just place my bookbag down on the end of the aisle and just put handles right in. I had like 40 G2s, they were like $3 for a 2pack.
They also bounce REALLY high, thats another thing that I liked about em, the clickieness was ***** awesome..
Fact:Stealing Is Fun. - yuutokun, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Love how you use "..."s in between your sentences to add that extra touch of creepiness.

A turquoise G2, is that it?- jeremydhorn, on 05/18/2008, -2/+4i think it is
- moresheth, on 05/18/2008, -0/+33I don't think it's what is being reviewed, it's just that there is a surprising level of detail about something most people don't think twice about.
Personally, sites like this are the reason I love the web.- Qong, on 05/18/2008, -0/+9Clearly you've never read the reviews of the BiC pens on Amazon. People have been doing this same exact thing for a very long time, with pens and other mundane objects all over the web.
This blog is particularly good though!- JARSInc, on 05/18/2008, -0/+7I think this blog is serious though.
- davodavo, on 05/18/2008, -0/+11My favorite elaborate reviews for mundane items are the reviews for Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon, 128 fl oz.

Those two links are great also haha. Maybe it's just early, but I laughed for about 5 minutes at the comment to try pouring the Tuscan Whole Milk over dry cereal: A-W-E-S-O-M-E! - cinnix, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R3JWMA4M0C67TF/ref= ...

- Spamcan, on 05/18/2008, -2/+40Last three posts are dated December 2006, January 2008 and March 2008. I'm actually more surprised that a blog about pens didn't update for over a year then I am about the fact that there's a blog dedicated to pens. I fail to believe that nothing interesting happened in the pen industry in 2007. Its too bad this site doesn't update more often because I could really use some daily/weekly pen related news.

- Qong, on 05/18/2008, -3/+17That's a great blog. It immediately reminded me of all of those old reviews of pens on Amazon, I don't know if the blog is copying them, it probably is, but it's still a quality blog about pens in my opinion.
- secrity, on 05/18/2008, -0/+4I can't take a reviewer seriously who doesn't like the black ink color pen because of the color of the goo over the gel.
- wc3452, on 05/18/2008, -3/+14I used to only write with G2s but I find that they leak too easily and then the ink smudges and then it gets all over your hand and then I cry. Uniball signos are so much better, they don't leak, they don't smudge and I am happy!
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+2The Uniball shills have invaded Digg!
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+2And searching for more information on this pen brought me to my weird internet community of the day: http://www.upsb.info/forum/index.php?
- wc3452, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1I love to spin my pen, though I want to learn how to spin forwards and backwards.
- sketching, on 05/18/2008, -0/+0I love pen spinning, so much fun. The G2 grip, writing purposes aside, is not so great a grip for pen spinning.
Anyway, I too was annoyed that this blog is not updated very often. How long does it really take to search out new pens? This guy isn't putting a whole lot of effort into his quest. - benplaut, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2Wow, that's certainly an interesting one...

- passedoutghost, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1I hate ink/gel pens. They smudge and leak through the paper. I've always used rollerballs.
- optikalblitz, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Uniball Signo user here, my roommate and i are constantly at odds about his exclusive G2 use versus my Signo obsession--which may be construed as unhealthy.
Signo's are superior in my opinion, i'm more of a fan of the pitted texture of the grip. The weight is more substantial, and since i keep my pens hooked on my pocket, i like the metal clip of the Signo over that of the G2.
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+2The Uniball shills have invaded Digg!
- hydratedsquash, on 05/18/2008, -2/+33The pen's rating at the bottom should be 17/20, 3 + 4 + 5 + 5 is 17, not 16 as the blogger gave it.

- Vicille, on 05/18/2008, -1/+18I ***** love G2s. I don't care what all these comments say about a pen review being lame. Choosing a proper writing utensil is some serious *****.
- freakk123, on 05/18/2008, -0/+6And when choosing a writing utensil, nothing beats a Pilot G2 in its price range. I'm serious, they're the best pen of their kind out there, particularly the 05 (extra fine) series.
- sketching, on 05/18/2008, -1/+0While it is quite good, I'd be happier if the ink dried a bit faster after writing.
- Kzoo, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Yeah, and it's not necessarily an expensive pen that's going to be the right thing for a given person (I've had moderately expensive pens that were worse than the Bic stick pens).
- freakk123, on 05/18/2008, -0/+6And when choosing a writing utensil, nothing beats a Pilot G2 in its price range. I'm serious, they're the best pen of their kind out there, particularly the 05 (extra fine) series.

- tghd, on 05/18/2008, -0/+11I don't particularly care about the content, but the writing is horrible.
- MyDiggIsBig, on 05/18/2008, -6/+10once i had a pen. it was a beautiful pen. It was black on the outside but blue on the inside, and it was looking for a friend. So i took it home that day from the stationary store. The second I got it I opened my front zipper, lodged it next to my balls, and carried it all the way home. thats how much i trusted my baby. I called her Penny.
When i got home that day i took her for a test run. I wrote on my nose and on my fingers and on my penis. She liked my penis. I could tell.
We had fun together for a long time. She was my favorite and i would use it everytime i did anything, and she never complained. She was the best pen ever.
But one day. One dark and terrible day. Penny died. I never saw her broken pieces, but i knew she was gone. They didn't let me see her, they wouldn't let me say goodbye. they just removed her from my ass and threw her away. those bastards.- ElBeh, on 05/18/2008, -0/+5*cries*
That was beautiful. - passedoutghost, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1My pen cheated on my with another. She claimed it was an accident of course, that she never meant to hurt me, but I didn't believe her lies.
- SatansSpatula, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Stationery, my friend. Nearly all stores are stationary, while only very few sell stationery.
- ElBeh, on 05/18/2008, -0/+5*cries*
- DutchGuilder, on 05/18/2008, -0/+4The Pilot G-2 07 rocks - its the only pen I use. I literally buy them 50 at a time (black only!). The ink is smooth, dries fast, requires just a light touch, and comfortably fits my hand. Uniballs are not nearly as comfortable and require more pressure, while my $200 Mont Blanc with its $7 each cartridges is total crap. It sounds odd to be passionate about a pen, but it is simply the best. At least 14 other people love their G2s too:

I mainly use fountain pens to write because I haven't yet found a ball pen that is as good and a bottle of ink just lasts for ages.
(I'm assuming here that you got a Mont Blanc fountain pen, because getting a Mont Blanc ball pen is just stupid) - cruzlee, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2I like Pens with ink that does NOT dry fast. I want the ink to shine for at least one sentence. Fountain pens and very good rollerballs have that property. Papermate Expresso is one of the best none-fountain pens I've ever come across. Another upside to this is that pens that really use a lot of ink are literally surfing over the paper with almost no friction at all. If you sign your autograph real fast, there won't be any skipped spots like with a cheap Bic.
- Bundrick, on 05/18/2008, -0/+0The G2 is indeed a fine pen, but I don't use retractables for fear of getting ink on my shirt pocket. I like the Uni-ball vision.

There is/was an equally awesome one on the US Amazon store that was written about milk (yes, amazon sold milk?). i'm not sure if this is the one i'm thinking of: http://www.amazon.com/Tuscan-Whole-Milk-Gallon-128 ...
it might be... because if you notice the oddities under the section named "Customers Who Viewed This Item Also Viewed" it includes things like uranium ore, dead rabbits and a star wars replica vehicle. probably all linked on Digg many times, but i still find people that are baffled by those things.

I've been on a personal quest for the perfect pen myself. My favourite is still BIC Round Stic Grip Ultra. - Chebsi, on 05/18/2008, -4/+8They just stole this from penisland.com

- Kakaze, on 05/18/2008, -0/+4A whole blog on Pens and, as far as I can tell, not a single review of a fountain pen?
- Enron, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Yeah, no fountain pens. No Fisher Space Pen™ either. I found this site to be sorely lacking for a place that claims to be on a quest for the perfect pen.
- echo2501, on 05/18/2008, -0/+6As a lefty, I'm pretty picky about pens after always getting crap about smudged ink and penmanship in grade school. Pens are designed to be pulled across paper, not pushed and I never took to that crooked wrist thing they taught left handed people to do. I was happy to find smooth writing pens that dried fast.
I dig the G2, but I prefer capped pens over retractable for better ink leak guard. I typically use Pilot Precise V5s in either fine or extra fine.- mikeks, on 05/18/2008, -0/+0I agree with this, but I recommend the Pilot Precise Grip. It came with my V5s once and I've been addicted ever since.
- Lou3000, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Precise V5 is where its at. I have made it through many years of school with my trusty V5s.
- Bundrick, on 05/18/2008, -0/+0One ruined dress shirt was enough for me to swear off retractables forever. I like the Uni-ball vision.
