- vanguardanon, on 05/23/2008, -1/+131) Market your social profile
2) ???
3) Profit - BradBrown, on 05/23/2008, -1/+9Still waiting for the substance of the article...good title though.
- mountainsurfer, on 05/23/2008, -3/+10Although many haters - I mean Diggers - are going to see the words "marketing" and "social media" in the same title and bury this thing without looking at it, I think it's a good article with some good points and am happily giving it a thumbs up.
- Pottypotsworth, on 05/23/2008, -3/+10I am a big believer in making friends through Digg which in turns helps you spot nice stories that may otherwise have never made it to the front page. Not a bad post at all.
- decepticrat, on 05/23/2008, -2/+7Social media is becoming more and more accepted these day as a valid entry on your resume. Amazing how siting around and surfing can take new role if you just redefine the meaning.
- uracre, on 05/23/2008, -0/+5No.
- Falldog, on 05/23/2008, -0/+5I prefer to have several different and over embellished profiles out there just in case.
- gmeluski, on 05/23/2008, -4/+8For ***** sake, could you be any less of a tool?
This quote did it for me:
"Last month was a groundbreaking social media experience for me. A blogger was asking in a public Skype (text) chat about any designers the few of us in the room could recommend. I immediately thought of someone who could work well with this blogger and I let the designer know of the bloggers interests. Soon the two met in the chat room and discussed a few details before taking the conversation completely private. In a matter of minutes I had brokered a deal that was worth a few hundred dollars. My designer comrade was very kind and eventually kicked back 50 bucks to me for recommending him"
Yeah, that's some groundbreaking ***** friend. Hooking people up with other people that can help them out. The only difference is that you're doing it on the internet, and generations before us would do it face-to-face.
I mean, god damn, is everyone out there this socially maladjusted? Do you only mitigate a meeting between two people that could help each other out if you see it as a chance to benefit yourself? Or am I expecting just a wee bit too much of humanity lately? Next thing you know, someone will invent a metric that measures the goodwill generated from helping out in such a situation. You're not a genius. You're just discovering for yourself what tons of people know in the un-wired world. Get out there, put people first and you'll get benefits, mental, emotional and even fiscal.
And for God's sake, quit debasing human interaction by turning everything into a marketing tactic. In the end, you'll only find you've dehumanized by dehumanizing others. - hairypothead, on 05/23/2008, -3/+7Oh man, this article will get the trolls annoyed :-Dugg!
- domfosnz, on 05/23/2008, -2/+6These are good tips for getting more social with you peers.
- sdcarter, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4Dugg for using "hacks" in the site name and then being hip enough to spell it with a Z.
- inactive, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2"I mean, god damn, is everyone out there this socially maladjusted?"
Apparently so. And that's only Web 2.0. Wait for Web 3.0 if you want to see the real maladjustment. - ritubpant, on 05/23/2008, -2/+4hummm....may be everyone should start marketing their profiles first and then think about marketing their sites, articles or whatever. This makes sense....at least to me
- inactive, on 05/23/2008, -3/+5i also started using instant messaging to get in contact with fellow diggers. works great
- inactive, on 05/23/2008, -1/+3Oh, that was you.

- alancheng, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2Interesting article you have by mikeontv.
I really like your blog design. Can you give me the name of the designer? Thanks. - cadmiumpaint, on 05/23/2008, -2/+4Summary of article:
"I am awesome because I have lots of internet friends and you should strive to be like me." - Falldog, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1I'll bring the Polaroids.
- artzoom, on 05/23/2008, -2/+3Very true! before meeting candidates i google their names to know more about them
- sdcarter, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Oops! I spilled paint on my clothes too. We should get out of these dirty clothes right away!
... works on my El Salvadorian day-laborers all the time. - inactive, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1One day you to could be the online equivalent of the happy meal; all you gotta do is try.

In other news the sky is blue. - sheebz, on 05/23/2008, -2/+2I get the joke, but i guess you could say #2 might be drive people to your blog/website with advertising... For example, http://www.sheebz.net :)
- mrboffo, on 05/23/2008, -1/+1From the article:
"By now, having a submission promoted to the front page of Digg or getting 20 @replies on Twitter doesn’t give me the same sensation as it did six months ago, yet I still insist on it continuing. As your stories are promoted so is you profile. People start contacting you via instant message just to say thanks or hello." - RocquesDiggs, on 08/28/2008, -0/+0It seems that if you are going to be using the social sites you have to make an attempt at being social. I have found several helpful people on the internet. If you look for the bad you find the bad, and if you look for the good you will find it. We all can digg or undigg, or save or delete. It is our choice what we want to do.
Content that is junk will be discovered for what it is. People who join social sites for no intention of being social won't last either. - dswaasted, on 09/04/2008, -0/+0i actually work at a professional networking site, Konnects.com, and I cant agree with you more. Thanks for the great post!
- kingjafee, on 05/24/2008, -0/+0I generally let my wit and intelligence shine though with my witty and intelligent remarks made with my fingers...

www.BigKev.us - Briii, on 05/23/2008, -1/+1Are you really Will Arnett?
- thejaymo, on 05/23/2008, -1/+1I would like to hear an update from this blogger in another six months on the subject of digital leak and his social networking habits .
For example having a consistent social networking name and profile for me has almost changed my name in the real world to the jaymo.
For me having a consistent social web 'brand' can only be a good thing, I think that everyone involved in social networking is out to market themselves in on way or another. and due to the nature of both the internet and the social medium, everyone is by nature out to influence everyone else. It Nietzsches' will to power made digital and the essence of Blogging. And having a consistent platform across the web allows you to build up the trust in your 'Brand' that you require to wield this influence. - edmondsonj, on 05/23/2008, -6/+5good post
