- subwoffers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+36If you value your record collection, I suggest you NOT do this.
- macamatition, on 10/10/2007, -8/+28I'd rather do that then buy a zune.
- Niten, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21than
- pukiman, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14May be he actually want to do that (build a homemade record player), and then buy a zune?
- SIRBERUS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10The Beatles put out a press-kit thing like this in Germany a long time back. It was a card that fit inside a normal mailing envelope... You unfolded the card and it had a cone and needle on it, and you turned a small vinal record with your finger that had Paul talking about the new album. An old associate of mine had a huge Beatles memorabilia collection and showed me it... it was pretty awesome.
- borninda818, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9No thank you, I'll just sit here and watch porn.
- Niten, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8It's hardly the same thing. Record player needles are designed specifically to ride smoothly in the record's grooves. A sewing needle will cause more wear than a record needle on account of it not necessarily riding at the right height within the groove. Also, sewing needles may have all sorts of nasty imperfections to tear up your vinyl, which would be absent from a properly engineered diamond record needle.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Mr. Wizard taught me this like 15 years ago
- dasdef, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4no its not. that guy just screwed te record in and spun it manually.
- Stochio, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5You're kidding, right?
- IllBeBack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Does it have a USB connection?
- Skanadian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That was pretty awesome.
- MetalliTooL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Some of you people are slow.
"OMG, you're gonna ruin the record and why not just by a cheap record player instead?!11/?!"
Do you REALLY think the point of the video is to show you how you can listen to your record collection without a player? - GIZZO, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Absolutely, but you get better sound if you use a brillo pad
- ItsGus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3You need to learn how early phonographs worked.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phonograph
- JesseJ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The vinyl you just destroyed was worth over $600 on eBay.
- theprez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Kind of creepy that he doesn't speak as thought he's going to play you a backwards subliminal message or something.
- kahlessreborn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Should rad how to destroy your records with a sewing needle. I mean come on just drop down some cash for at least the combo record, cd, radio, and tape players they are cheap enough.
- Domdogg123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Have you ever even seen a Zune?
- Brenky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I just tried it, it was pretty awesome. I put it on a regular turntable and spun it manually, it was surprisingly loud. Spin it backwards for added hilarity.
- subwoffers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thats where you are wrong, a record player uses shaped needles to ride in the grove to prevent grove burn.
A sewing needle was made for sewing, sew with it. - JoeDiggsIt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Also, they usually have a diamond tip, or at the least a tip much more finer than a sewing or household needle.
- wushi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2does it work with cds???
- TokenWhiteGuy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It's the Devil's music! Run!
- DrunkenSavior, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0'MacGyver' did it!
Anyone remember that episode where he is caught in a crash landed plane and an avalanche covers the plane when he is inside it? - ItsGus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Here, this aught to help you understand, also: http://communication.howstuffworks.com/analog-digital1.htm
- Deathanator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I used to have an old wind up record player when I was a kid, It didn’t have a tone arm or needle etc and I remember doing much the same with a piece of paper and a pin,
Only I didn’t tape the pin on, I pierced the small end of the cone with the pin,
I would of thought that you would get better sound conduction this way and the pin was at a better angle and it held the cone together.
I would sit there and hold the back of the cone and was able to listen to the whole record perfectly.....
Sorry I know its lame but I just thought I would share this as it took me back to when I was about 5 years old - lengau, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1@ItsGus - InfamousX241 has a point. I don't think he's turning the record fast enough to get the right frequency out of it.
- Smight, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1By "record player" they mean "horn with a needle attached." Apparently it's assumed that you already have a turntable.
- shadokast, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Andrew Ryan eat your heart out
- InfamousX241, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I understand how it works, thus I said "the idea is there." But it just seems a bit off for some reason, that's all.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4Believe it or not, everytime you play a record a needle is touching it
- purple, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Unless you apply pressure, it's as gentle as an actual record player.
- Flump5000, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1i just got a brand new record, cd, and tape player for $80 and it sounds great. just get one of those.
- Cyberbladewolf, on 10/10/2007, -12/+5What's a record?
- InfamousX241, on 10/10/2007, -15/+4The idea is there, but it just seems fake to me.
