- mcavoy76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34Ridiculously addictive.
- rhesuspieces00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30man, africa is noisy.
- Suits, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27I see a Firetruck! :)
- srobbin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23I was just watching what looked to be some sort of rabbit. (I secretly hoped that a hyena would come by, so I could see African in action!)
- BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Im going to have this running while I lay in bed. Should be peacefull to sleep to.
- anarchtica, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15The web cam is positioned in a tree in front of a natural water hole called Nkorho Pan which is located inside the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve in South Africa. This is definately the best live web cam footage I've ever seen. There is hardly ever a studder in the movement and it's someone's job to follow the animals with the 'cam which makes it even cooler.
- NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I'd pay for an HD subscription to that. Watching a water hole beats discovery channel any time.
- Lorian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14mms://live.wildlife.wavelit.net/nk1957
- Datrio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Oh my God, this is so... So cool! And I don't even see any animals yet! And yes, a bird must be sitting somewhere near the camera.
Who cares for PS3's Africa's? Real life Africa, FTW! - srobbin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12For anyone who watches this webcam, I highly, highly recommend that you view it at night. The cam is showing daylight hours right now, and there are a TON of animals there. Zebra, tapirs, etc.
- MannyHills, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11typically I agree. But he does add something by creating a link that allows mac users to view it as well.
- Aberen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10that girafe is awesome!
just standing there.. licking.. - kelkitty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10So effin cool. I just totally watched three giraffes drink out of a pond.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Speaking of ghosts...
Die. - biffsputnik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Agreed... late night/early morning does look like the time to tune in. But the Digg crowd is up anyway, right?
@direnerd... awesome, thanks, will be spreading this one around - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8You're a ***** idiot.
That is all. Good day to you. - batmanrsa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7this is awesome, i grew up in south-africa but have been in the states for 9yrs, it's like watching a little piece of home for me.
- MrAiden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This is some of the smoothest web cam video I've seen. And its from Africa. Pretty sweet. Anybody else think there's some sort of mic on the ground by the pond? The footsteps seem especially loud. Overall, addiciting... even on a 400mhz G4.
- cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6why not?
- plumeria, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's funny how I cannot help but wonder if this stuff is simply pre-recorded and runs in some kind of loop.
- forgetfulca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6.... said the guy posting on digg, indoors on the weekend in REPLY to a webcam in africa. Sanctimony has a bigger advantage when the deliverer isn't cut from the same cloth as his (her) audience. Besides, the bulk of the posters were at this story 20 hours ago, well before the weekend time limit you are trying to impose..
Just so this is remotely on topic, my ***** detector is kinda pinging, in that I suspect this is just a static closed loop of movie. That would kill my interest completely, since the lure here is obviously the real-time aspect. - jotux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is what reality TV on animal planet would be like.
- infinityplus1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Video started right up for me... also, if you have not noticed there is sound, turn it up.
You can hear the zebras snorting and the birds chirping and calling as well as the sound of the animals feet as they walk around the watering hole.
9/29 2:55 EST
There are currently 3 giraffes and at least 3 zebras at or near the watering hole.
It sounds as if a bird is sitting right next to the mic, it is so loud.
Zebra are walking away from the watering hole now... joining a larger group of zebra.
I'll stop with the commentary now.
Very neat, good quality and great sound, dugg. - soupyc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Coolest. Article. Ever. On. Digg.
Thanks for this! - squirrelza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sorry to make another post, but you can view videos of the Kruger National Park (the largest Game Reserve in South Africa, bigger then Israel actually), you can signup here http://www.sanparks.org/parks/kruger/webcams/ and watch. I have tested myself so I don't know what it's like but there's more chance of seeing a variation of different animals available in Africa (about 147 species)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kruger_Park if you want information on the Kruger Park - squirrelza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Took a look around the website, they offer even more stuff for educational purposes. Take a look at http://wavelit.com/ for more information..
Information about this particular camera:
Nkorho Pan is brought to you by Africam.com, ranked as one of the top African wildlife sites on the web. We pioneered the live web cam industry in Africa back in 1998 when we broadcast live images from some of the wildest places on the continent. This was a world first and fast gained popularity world wide. Technology has moved on and we are proud to bring you the first of our live streaming cameras on the Africam Wildlife Channel.
Nkorho Pan is a natural water hole in the prestigious Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, in South Africa. Nkorho pan is named after Nkorho bush Lodge which gets it name from the Shangaan derivative for the call of the yellow-billed hornbill, a common and unusual looking bird from this area.
If you wan't to know what kind of animals they have, check out http://www.nkorho.com/ - chewbaccawokka, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Oh cool a pigeon.
- jimi1337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@Suits: roflmfao.
For anyone who is clueless, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1juJQxDw14 - JDenigma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4God I love the Internet. It's so amazing. It way beats tv and this is just one more example why.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That's so cool! I had to wait for a little bit to see anything, but when I did, it was worth it. I can't wait to check it out during the day.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -3/+5Yes, technology/internet rules. The world feels so much smaller and attainable, but still very large. The ability to talk to someone half way around the world with only a 2 second delay, or chat with them on a webcam... watch African wildlife... - that's great.. I hope travel becomes instantaneous soon, that will help unite the world I think.
- drpunkerz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Heh, zebras. This is kind of fun to watch, but I prefer that old digg post with webcams you can control on your own. I wonder if you can still use those...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Stupid joke = thumbs down.
- Alternate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's really funny seeing this, normaly when ever we see lions, zebra etc. were just like "um, ya".
@Sonic_Molson you obvously don't know how expensive bandwith is here in South Africa. :P
Almost every local website is hosted overseas, cause it's much, much cheaper. - Sonic_Molson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Africam IP resolves to 216.93.182.248. Ethereal shows the stream coming from 192.48.234.133 (which is rather strange that it's using an ip that should be dedicated to internal networks).
Doing a quick check up here http://www.seomoz.org/ip2loc/ip2loc.php shows them both in North America. Not Africa. - Laio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Awesome. I'm really impressed with the sound particularly, I can HEAR the zebras swishing their tails.
- Dolemite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow, this is amazing! Great post! Dugg!
- jotux, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yeah, if digg eats up too much traffic they'll have to take the stripes off those zebras so they'll load faster :-/
- soundboy64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wavelit is working for me in Safari with the flip4mac plugin, it occaisonaly kind of stalls or I lose sound, Don't know if it's due to the stream or windows media...
- SirRX7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15:18 AM Central time...Massive elephant on screen. Amazing cam!
- Icecold54, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nothing worked for me except... using IE... Go here http://wavelit.com/?ch=Wildlife&sh=africam# in IE and it should start working. Hope that helps.
- MannyHills, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I just want a Lion to come running in from the side and tear apart that zebra, he's asking for it.
- BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Im more worried about CPU that it takes up. Like will it stop running the video when you have a program over the top of it or if you are playing a game?
- ting, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1On a 1.6GHz, 512 RAM laptop runs without any slowdown. Thanks for the tip.
BTW I'm not sure why gman was dugg down. - DragonAura, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I thought it was very peaceful and calming at first as well...
that is, until 3 or more animals of some sort off camera began to make some REALLY WEIRD LOUD OBNOXIOUS CROAKING AWK SOUND!!
Anyone else hearing that?
But this is seriously awesome... +++++digg. - EbowUK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I believe they are still available.
But you have to pay for them.
And they only seem to show Eastern European chicks called Olga. - DarkPhoen1x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I really, really want to find a way to get this to run as a desktop background.
- maklershed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I just noticed my misspelling. That really changes the meaning of the sentence. I think the United States is the nosiest place in the world. Africa, on the other hand, sounds the noisiest.
- gman1234, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Use vlc media player to make this live stream play as a wallpaper. :) http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ open the stream mms://live.wildlife.wavelit.net/nk1957 through file open, then go to the video menu -> choose wallpaper.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2One of the best posts I've ever seen on Digg. I could watch this for hours.. hooray for nature.
I've only seen some deer and zebra, but that's more than I get to see here, so I'm happy.
Thanks for the post. -
