If their comments are anything to go by. - Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -4/+53It is nice to see some really original videos on digg. We were going to need a Colbert/Stewart section if the trend wasn't broken soon! I approve of this video.

- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+14The funniest (or not so funny) thing is, the new Mach 3 Power comes in the "Nitro" edition. What's next? We've already got Turbo razors, Nitro razors.. how about a "1911" razor?
- LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Once I decided to go to a barber to shave my beard. The guy used a straight razor and all. (It's a bit awkward to have some guy with a extra sharp object to your throat, but you grow some trust eventually)
I must admit, it was THE BEST shaving I ever had. That's the kind of skill I'd like to have for myself (though I admit I don't trust myself with a straight razor) Since then, I tried safety razors a few times. The first time was disastrous and I had some very bad cuts, but I got used to it when doing the right side. A few days later I tried again and it was fine, with a much superior shaving than with any other razors I've used.
Nowdays I fell back to the modern multi-bladed razors, but it's just not the same thing, now than I can compare. They're absolute crap against to the old, one bladed stuff. :|
This seems to be a good series of videos, tho. The guy gives good advice. The hot water is pretty much the best thing you can do before shaving, it makes all the difference. - Paladin27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Flawless, that Philips Bodygroom flash ad is hilarious! - vuzman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I use shaving oil as well. I have never had a closer and smoother shave. Seriously, my skin is really soft and smooth, instead of irritated or sensitive like it is with regular shaving.
I haven't seen shaving oil in stores, but it's easy to find online. I would like to add that it is much more economical than regular shaving. I buy a 1.25 oz bottle of oil and it lasts for 2-3 months. And I'm more generous with the oil than the directions. - anitract, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Like some other people here, I switched from a M3 to a classic DE "safety razor" pretty recently. Believe what you hear, they offer a superior shave with less irritation. Once you adjust your shaving technique (anywhere from 2-4 weeks on average), you will be loving it.
Also the savings on a new blade vs. a new cartridge are amazing. You can get 100 blades of a recommended brand on ebay for around $15. Each blade will last 3-7 days, depending on how heavy your beard. Do the math! More importantly, don't support the evil multi-blade industry...talk about waste...
For more info, be sure to check out the excellent forums at shavemyface.com (or) badgerandblade.com. The users at both sites are very helpful and friendly. - Ryetronics, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8All I use is a shaving oil, rather than cream/foam/lotion, and it works perfectly. Against the grain too. I think Clinique carries some, and a place called Regimens.com carries it too. It's not pre-shave oil, it's just the oil. Nothing else is needed. Trust me on this.
- zirtbow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I can't watch this because i'm at work but after that other article I dugg a few months ago ( Link for reference: http://digg.com/gadgets/Learn_to_shave_the_correct_way_--_avoiding_razor_burn_etc. ). When I get home though I expect this to have a guy soaping up with no less than wet badger and shaving it with a live porcupine, like a real man.
Ok maybe not that but at least a basic brush and maybe using a decent razor. - moosebumps, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I've been using a Merkur double edged safety razor for a few months. The shave is undeniably closer and smoother compared to the modern many bladed razors. The best part is that it doesn't take but maybe a minute or two longer to get a shave that is much better. The start up cost can be high but in the end when a new blade will only cost ~$0.50 there will be quite a saving compared to ~$4.00 replacements. I found http://www.classicshaving.com to be helpful in finding what was available and also that amazon.com offered a much better deal. No affiliation or marketing ploy intended...I really have found it to be much more enjoyable.

Props to the guy that uploaded these to youtube and the guy that wrote this article.
Dugg. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Headblade.com for us baldies.
Also, Casswell Massey Pre-Shave oil was ranked #1 by Men's Health awhile back.
I use that with the Art of Shaving unsented. Works wonders. - mantic59, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Greetings-- I am the person who created the videos. In the space of 48 hours after getting "digg'd" the view count went from about 1200 to over 30,000. Behold the power of Digg! :-)
- Kajico, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So many people complaining about the speed of shaving in this video. It's not about the speed, but about the comfort, obviously if you are in the gotta get up i'm late run out the door routine in life, of course you aren't going to be able to apreciate this method.
LOL it's funny but I never noticed this until thinking about how I shave from watching these videos, but I shave just like my dad, down to the same razor model, same razor blades, and even same shaving cream. I've always done a warm water wet shave, I just can't imagine shaving without lots of warm water and warm foam (even if my foam comes out of a can). I've tried gel's and they really do suck, leave your face so dry and it feels like your pulling your hair out instead of cutting it.
I've had a traditional barbershop shave, and boy that kicks ass, I guess this is the closest way to getting that barbershop feel. I'm going to have to give this method a go one day it seems more relaxing and enjoyable than just throwing lots of warm water on my face repeatidly and hacking and slashing away. - merkle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4They lost me at the Styptic Pencil. No way man.
- Canthros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It really does get you a better shave. I've been using a safety razor since April or March, and I find that, in practice, it doesn't take too awfully much longer than using a Mach 3 equivalent. If I cant do a wetshave with the Mach 3 in fifteen minutes, the safety razor takes 20 to 30. That said, I usually don't shave in the morning and rarely have in the past, unless I was using an electric.
- badnewsblair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm ready to try a shave oil. I wish you knew which one exactly it was! Post the brand you use please.
- kurgaan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think the best part is the clip (3rd video) of what happens when men enter into the zen mode and start to day dream. I don't usually think of hot women showing a little butt cleavage when I shave; LOL
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPLfCyGMm9o&mode=related&search= - bwd01, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That's actually not a bad question. Not sure why you got modded down for asking it.
- 15charmaxwtf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I find it easier to get a beard shaver and just randomly try todo it every 1-2 weeks. Shaving properly is far too time-consuming.
- vertino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Couldn't help but laugh at the cat in the 2nd video!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4ezJNJfygw&mode=related&search= - systemghost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Great instructional videos. I've been using a braun electric razor for a long time now, which I've found gives the best electric shave, but I've always wanted to try the old fashioned way. I've got a shaving kit from my grandpappy that's been sitting in my bathroom medicine cabinet for a long time and I think I'll give it a whirl.
- cblalock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've been wetshaving for about 2 months now and I couldn't be happier. I've had every multiblade monstrosity on the market and my grandfathers gilette adjustable just can't be beat.
No irritation, I'm smooth as a baby's butt and I smell good to boot. My wife loves it.
The guys at badgerandblade.com are indeed awesome. - unclejemima, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is one of my favorite topics; the lost art of shaving. Take a minute out of your day and check out the links below.
1. Read the now famous MSNBC article on how to get a perfect shave.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6886845/
2. Get a Merkur classic
http://www.classicshaving.com
(Honestly, a Mach 3 razor that you oil after each use works just as well in my opinion)
3. Get Proraso or Trumper shaving cream and a good badger hair brush:
http://qedusa.com - B0jangles, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10His voice is so depressing.
- SolidXtreme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For some reason this video is so entertaining. Although I'd love to try some of the techniques presented I think I'm too lazy to move away from using a fusion and gel.
- TeddyRoosevelt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Far too many products and too much time.
- Airspeeder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've gotten a professional shave at Art of Shaving (http://www.theartofshaving.com/taos/taos-shops.php)
They really do pamper you and leave you with a very clean face. Additionally, the rate of hair re-growth I noticed later was substantially longer than when I normally shave myself. I guess they really got the hair right out.
Here are some good tips for shaving:
1) cover your face with warm water before the shave
2) Leave shaving cream on your face for about 2 minutes to let it soak in
3)Use cold water to wash your face when you're done. (closes pores)
4) Use an after-shave without alcohol (alcohol irritates and dries out the skin's natural oils).
5) Applying baby oil to your face makes for a cheap, at-home alternative to many shaving oils. It doesn't work as well as some of the ones you find on the market, and the gunk-factor is pretty high, but it shaves quite smoothly. - Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, it's called a full stop!
*hides* - badnewsblair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have to shave against the grain as well. My beard is too thick and in order to get it perfectly smooth I have to cut the opposite direction. This is where my skin gets messed up the most.
- pluto124, on 12/25/2008, -0/+1Great video. I am collecting this shaving advise for my site. http://www.bettershaving.com
- Ryetronics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1BadNewsBlair...
Here's the one I use. It's the *****. I get the Sport scent.
http://tinyurl.com/f8sbd - DiamondIce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very informative, and a nice find. This is deffinately making me want to retire my Mach3 for a bit and try a straight razor.
- theLimit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We all know that women hate soft smooth skin. We should all dry-shave and make the women just get used to the feel of scarred leather.
- cblalock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its really not that bad. You'll pretty much outgrow it in a week or so once you get the technique down.
- TheBowerbird, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can make your own shave oil very easily! Most commercial blends are exactly this, with the addition of some sort of scent extract. Take two parts Castor oil (find this at your local health food store) to one part olive oil. Shake until blended... Viola! You just saved about 15 bucks! I suggest going to REI and finding the little tiny nalgene bottles that they have for easy and attractive storage of your new oil.
- GabeUtsecks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The lewrockwell.com article is completely correct.
I never even use shaving cream, gel, oil, or anything. I just use warm water. It is faster and doesn't dry out and destroy my skin. I have never taken more than a minute to shave and I have never gotten a cut. Ever. Also, since I get a closer shave by using just water, I don't have to shave as often. - ericmlevy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I switched to a classic Gillette razor with a brush and good shaving creme. My face is way less irritated now. I wrote a review of it at the site: www.sweatyrobot.com.
I read a great article about shaving. What I learned was: get an old school razor, a badger brush, and some fancy dancy shave cream. So far, I've gotten two out of three. Neither Pathmark nor Rite Aid had the shave creme.
My dad gave me his old razor and the guy at airport security disposed of the razor for me. Thank you Mr. Airport Security for disposing of my fifteen year old razor, I wasn't going to use it anyways. It could have STD's my dad contracted fifteen years ago and I don't need that. I need NEW ones. He also gave me the brush, which is in pretty rough shape, but still works fine.
After showering, I lather the ol' face and then brush upwards like the article says to do. You have to hold the razor at a WAY different angle than a disposable.
Wait, I'm going to write a tangent. Okay, my Mach 3 irritates my neck and face, that's why I made the switch. I had to give this a try.
Crazy angle. And you don't press down like with a regular razor, or you'll filet your face off.
The Verdict: It works. My face is generally as smooth. My neck is less irritated. I can shave more often without tearing my face up. This is good. It actually worked.
How about some negativity after all this positive stuff? Sure! You have to shave slower. I probably take 1.5 times as much time as before. That's the only negative.
posted by Eric @ 02 Aug 2006 - motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1After I learned that Joe Satriani used a Mach 3 and tried it myself, I'll never go back to regular blades. The Mach 3 is great. I can shave against the grain on the first stroke and get a smooth shave every time.
- catatonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you have a "Bath & Body Works" Nearby you, you can find a "C. O. Bigelow" brand cream. This is also made by Proraso, and is quite nice.
Right now I am flip-flopping between it and the Proraso Green tube for which one is my favorite.
Oh, and you can get Proraso at Target, in the Spa section of the Cosmetics area. The Brush is a must have....it's no badger (it's boar bristle), but it's a good cheap brush to get you started, and they have the cream in tube and tub form (they call the tub "soap", but it's not...it's just a dryer form of their cream....check out the ingredients...they just juxtaposed them a bit so the end formula is dryer).
And pick up a mug to use with the brush and cream. I just have a plain white mug I bought from the same Target for $2-3.
The brush, cream, and mug from Target can be had for about $20.
Now get yourself either a Double edge safety razor, or a straight razor and strop (I'm a straight shaver), and you are all set! A DE with some blades can be had for around $30. A professionally honed straight and a ready to use new strop can be had for $75-90.
As for which razor is right for you, it's all a matter of preference. Many folks claim the straight teaches them fine control that makes for a better DE shave. DE razors can use "feather" blades, which are FAR sharper than a straight razor (be careful, easier to get cut too!).
Then there is the Feather AC, a replaceable blade straight. It uses a replaceable blade system very similar to the Shick Injector. The AC is the best of both worlds....insane sharpness (literally feels like you are wiping lather off your face, not shaving), and the fine control of a straight razor (ever tried shaving off those hairs that grow right at the edge of your nostril?). - theRIAA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"and their mind starts to wander" LOL
i like the idea and im sure its a better shave, but for me, the electric shave is all i need, for me, it dosent sting at all, it looks great, and it takes less than a minnute -
