- brainbox, on 01/28/2008, -0/+94Sorry to be cheeky with the reply-thing but this is important.
Since this article was written in 1991, the Church Of Scientology TOOK OVER the "Cult Awareness Network" that is mentioned in the article. The CoS sued the pants off them and bought their domain name and so on in the ensuing bankruptcy. The "New CAN" is now a front for Scientology, and should be avoided. - georgemason01, on 01/28/2008, -0/+69When the corporate media still had some balls, apparently.
- XNihil0Zer0, on 01/28/2008, -0/+61I'm not an Atheist, and if you look on 4chan there isn't much that's Christian about it. People should be free to believe what they want. But should people be free to lie, and exploit people? There are plenty of wacky people out there that believe crazy things like alien souls and such. Yet Anon does not attack those people, because those people freely choose their beliefs and are not taking advantage of others through the propagation of those beliefs. Anon is not attacking the believers, Anon is attacking the liars.
- digginghacker, on 01/28/2008, -5/+60Monday, May. 06, 1991
- erkokite, on 01/28/2008, -1/+56The one that charges $1000/hr for a session of auditing and $1900 for some of its "sacred texts."
- brainbox, on 01/28/2008, -0/+49Yeah, except that this isn't *new*. It's good stuff, and valuable reference material (and very much worth a read, and worth bookmarking), but it's from 1991.
- smrekar, on 01/28/2008, -1/+49no, tom cruise is gay. Scientology is lame.
- KloroFormd, on 01/28/2008, -2/+49Wow, Time doing a cover story on this on Monday, May. 06, 1991 is huge. It clearly educated the population.

I just scratched the surface here, but something about your post doesn't strike me as entirely accurate. - dinobot, on 01/28/2008, -7/+471) Post a story on Scientology
2) Get sued
3) Provide Project Chanology with more material
4) ???
5) Epic Lulz - inactive, on 01/28/2008, -2/+40This might be from 1991 but it has a ton of info that i did not know about the group and i am glad it was posted
- msqualia, on 01/28/2008, -0/+37To give it some context, Scientology sued over this award-winning article. Time won that suit in 2001.
Scientology sued them for TEN of those years. - theragu40, on 01/28/2008, -7/+42Wow, Time doing a cover story expose on this is huge. The more public this information becomes, the more likely Anon can accomplish what it set out to do. "Let the media deal the coup de grace"
- fletcherrr, on 01/28/2008, -13/+48It's official. Say what you want about the mainstream media, but this is the sort of shot-in-the-arm that this movement neeed, and Time has solidified it. Go Anonymous, thanks in part to Time!!
- themastersb, on 01/28/2008, -2/+37Most Diggers were Anons in the fist place. You leave if you don't like it.
- sonicularulus, on 01/28/2008, -8/+42if I got a dollar for every scientology post on digg, id be rich.
but i love the negativity we read on the cult. - gmaggro, on 01/28/2008, -12/+43http://www.partyvan.info/index.php/Project_Chanolo ...
http://partyvan.info.nyud.net/index.php/Project_Ch ... - nellshini, on 01/28/2008, -4/+351991 or not, it's nice seeing a major media outlet calling out the "Church" for what it is.
- InSeverance, on 01/28/2008, -7/+35I know in this context the date things are written can be irrelevant...but this article is SEVENTEEN years old
- Celeron, on 01/28/2008, -0/+28Scientology must be destroyed!
- inactive, on 01/28/2008, -11/+37a 1991 article, good lord people. Why doesn't ANON go after Marshall Applewhite and Heaven's Gate next, oh wait...
- Pimpin-Assassin, on 01/28/2008, -1/+23I don't know whether or not to digg this comment up or down. Up for making a reference to that famous video everyone has seen. Down for supporting L. Ron Hubbard.
- Dokument, on 01/28/2008, -0/+22ITS A TRAP.. well sorta
- Farik, on 01/28/2008, -1/+23I can't believe I just dugg a link to MySpace.

- sutro33, on 01/28/2008, -7/+28Homophobia is gay.
- theragu40, on 01/28/2008, -0/+20Wow, I didn't realize at first that this was so old. I really hope Time can pick up on the current frenzy and run something again in the near future. This is a huge topic, and the public needs to know.
- charlie55, on 01/28/2008, -2/+22just the fact that you know about a place called 4chan where you allege that they have "loli porn" is enough for me to know you are terrible.
- NerveBand, on 01/28/2008, -3/+22Wow, I can't believe that article is from 1991. Well written and I honestly can say that there is no bias in the article. ***** scientology.
- codered1322, on 01/28/2008, -4/+23Tom Cruise is so pissed right now.
- Toronto86er, on 01/28/2008, -0/+18stealth-rickrolled
- erkokite, on 01/28/2008, -3/+21Oh yes, when you hate scams that wreck lives, it most certainly is a religious matter! Why didn't I think of this before! I am so blind, I could use some auditing!
/sarcasm - rmd34, on 01/28/2008, -2/+20Let me get this straight? You care more about defending this *****' piece of ***** CULT?! You have GOT to ***** be kidding me?!
I'm still looking for a list of Politicians and High Ranking Gov Officials that are Scientologist. This should be another focus. It's clear to me that this Totalitarian Group will always put the interests of their CULT ahead of anything else. Their infestation MUST end. - INDOAZZ, on 01/28/2008, -5/+22If you want the truth, just watch the SOUTH PARK episode on SCIENTOLOGY.
- nospinhere, on 01/28/2008, -0/+16The Digg Effect. This 1991 story is now number 4 on the top 10 most popular stories on Time.com. The rest of the top 10 are stories from this past week. You think Time is going to notice?
- Rikkochet, on 01/28/2008, -0/+16I had no idea until now.
More on that:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_Awareness_Networ ... - Artiqulate, on 01/28/2008, -2/+17This is how long tail in press works. There's a lot of writing out there people are missing out on. So what if it's from 1991, the more reason to digg it.
- sloppychris, on 01/28/2008, -0/+15And yet still relevant, as also pointed out over and over.
- arw371, on 01/28/2008, -7/+21This really shows how many diggers don't really read articles, outside the titles or descriptions.
This is from 1991, as has been pointed out over and over. - zer0, on 01/28/2008, -7/+21Time magazine thats ***** awesome!
- seventoes, on 01/28/2008, -1/+14I joined last week? Man i must have made my 1,100 posts quickly..

http://www.time.com/time/printout/0,8816,972865,00 ... - inactive, on 01/28/2008, -4/+16wow this is on time.com
- oldhick, on 01/28/2008, -0/+12Your comment is irrelevant. The beef with CoS goes far beyond charging for faith. Its their intimidation tactics, black-mail, extortion, etc... They tried to frame the mayor of Clearwater FL. They actively campaigned to steal government documents. They infiltrated a non-profit cult awareness group and sued it into oblivion. The church of CoS is a hate mongering criminal organization. The more you try to defend the actions of this disgusting cult the more I become concerned about your motivations. How do you defend the criminal acts of this organization?
- SzaszMan, on 01/28/2008, -0/+11Do you even know what "cult" means?
- ZeroIce, on 01/28/2008, -1/+11Damn. I was reading it like it was in the latest issue or something. That is kinda a let down. It is a great article though.
- Bossman1086, on 01/28/2008, -1/+11Not for the purpose of what's going on now, though. I mean, Anon may be racist and crack jokes, but that's usually what they are. Jokes. We know we're not going to convert christians, etc away from their religion and honestly, who gives a *****? They're not really harming anyone. The problem with Scientology is that they are hurting people and regardless of whether or not people have the right to believe what they want and freedom of religion....Scientology is a cult, not a religion. They leech off their members until they're useless and even hurt/kill people, have multiple fronts (as seen in the article), and are just generally evil....yet they get away with it. That should not be tolerated by anyone.
