How to graduate the School of Hard Knocks with a 4.0
lyved.com — The School of Hard Knocks has no physical location but it has millions of students and just as many teachers, but most aren ’t even humans. There are no books and there are countless tests. It’s the toughest and best education you can get. Sometimes it costs you money, but other times it’s free.

- surKaz, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2Yeah... I was your Research Advisor.. ..
- SuperWinner, on 05/15/2008, -0/+5I only got a GED of hard knocks....
- Quadrophenic, on 05/15/2008, -14/+23"Don’t get caught up in negative things like drugs and alcohol."
I find both of these things to be highly positive.- esilverski, on 05/15/2008, -1/+11Things like drugs and alcohol are probably the best teachers
- tidu, on 05/15/2008, -0/+5well a lot of my teachers make me lightheaded, especially around 8 am
- noisymime, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4Don't digg this man down! What's with all the prudish, "say no to drugs" ideology pushers on Digg today?
- chromerium, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4I think the words 'caught up in' are too vague. The original author should have said something like;
"Be moderate in your approach to alcohol and other substances."
- esilverski, on 05/15/2008, -1/+11Things like drugs and alcohol are probably the best teachers
- onionbagel724, on 05/15/2008, -8/+18fail? fail + anything does not equal 4.0
- surKaz, on 05/15/2008, -2/+15And THAT is exactly why you aren't getting a 4.0 in this school..
- mokayogi, on 05/15/2008, -1/+5Yoda: That is why you fail.
- SuperWinner, on 05/15/2008, -2/+4Skip the parties and make friends? These two suggestions seem incongruous...
- bcars, on 05/15/2008, -1/+8I go to Rice where an A+ is valued at 4.33. So, assuming the School of Hard Knocks is your typical accredited education institution, you'll need 120 credit hours to graduate. With a 4.0 average, this gives you 480 GPA points (120 hours @ 4.0 GP each). If you made all A+'s, you could fail 2 (3 hour) courses and still achieve 484.96 GPA points (112 hours @ 4.33 GP each), leaving you with a 4.04, round that off to 4.0 and BOOOYAAAH.
- alex7575, on 05/15/2008, -1/+10All those As, A+s, GPs, GPAs, the weird numbers and all those @ signs made me all dizzy, and then you went BOOOYAAAH! and that scared the ***** out of me.
- jonwiththewind, on 05/15/2008, -1/+84.04... this GPA cannot be found
- Zipko, on 05/15/2008, -1/+2If an A+ is 4.33 then you don't have a 4.0 scale. Sounds like the kind of grading you get in high school where they make it easy to get above 100% so students can have better self-esteem.
I like the idea of weighted credit for harder courses go reward people who try harder, but free extra credit for the sake of boosting everyone's grade is just mental masturbation.

- nreynolds, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3I liked the second time you said it, but most people dugg the first for some reason... crazy diggers...
- abran1984, on 05/15/2008, -6/+4i dugg up all three of socialpyramid's comments to point out a bug. It's not hard to compare a new comment by an author and see if the exact same comment was posted by the same author on the same story - come on Digg!
- ant1832, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3I'm sure it's been discussed whether or not that feature really adds value vs. the performance hit you'd get by adding that extra query to every comment posted on digg. Not a tough decision especially when its clear that that would be solving for the exception rather than a rule.
- sarixe, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1then have a delete feature... duh

- granolajoe, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3I won't list all my experiences in life here, but I will say that I've learned the hard way that this is a school in which you always learn and there's room for advancement, but you NEVER graduate from.
- Nhmarine, on 05/15/2008, -8/+2I can't believe no one has done this... but... It's a hard knock life for me! It's a hard knock life for me!
Come on people, this allusion is necessary for this article and I shouldn't have to be the first one to do it! - lordtyros, on 05/15/2008, -2/+8You cannot learn from books. Replace these pages with life lessons and then you will have a book that is worth its weight in gold.
- tidu, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2Dunder Mifflin. Limitless paper. In a paperless world.
- saxreturns, on 05/15/2008, -1/+11I'm a School of Hard Knocks dropout. I fail at all of the above... even failing!
- bluntphallus, on 05/15/2008, -0/+6But if you fail at failing, then that means you succeeded at something. Which means you didn't fail all the above, which clearly negates your comment. Paradox at work, folks.
But I'm pointing out the obvious. Being a picky prick. Acting completely oblivious to your wit. Continue.
WTF am I talking about? I require shooting.- greenlight2001, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2With a name like "bluntphallus" it must be good.

- Paperthin, on 05/15/2008, -7/+3what the ***** is...school of hard knocks!? this thing ***** sucks!
- clickwriter, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0If you dont know, you haven't been there yet.

- Djokuuskaj, on 05/15/2008, -3/+4Alright, all of them are great except the anti drugs one. There is nothing wrong with drinking (even binge drinking) as long as you aren't driving and school comes first. I would even extend this to marijuana, because it is a good way to relax and personally it helps me chill the ***** out - I'm still headed to Stanford.
- sarixe, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1dugg down for marijuana being a reach past alcohol
- devaspark, on 05/15/2008, -1/+2The headline of that section states "Skip the parties and other time wasters", you can use that time you're smoking and drinking and do other stuff like work and build your nest egg for a business.
Drugs are expensive, drinking can get expensive. That money is better served to be saved up, invested, and used later to make even more money. That was most likely the intent of the paragraph.
So please learn some reading comprehension.- Bouncybanana, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1yeah but come on, all work and no play? moderation is key!

- Croecop, on 05/15/2008, -3/+6I agree you non-surfing son-of-a-bitch.
How does this ***** get Dugg? - wepto, on 05/15/2008, -2/+5Likewise.
Worst article on digg in a long time.
- Croecop, on 05/15/2008, -3/+6I agree you non-surfing son-of-a-bitch.
- jjk7288, on 05/15/2008, -1/+4While it seems like there is a good underlying idea, the article is simply too vague to get all that much out of.
- jayhawk88, on 05/15/2008, -1/+21Wow, great advice. I wonder how many fortune cookies the author had to open to finish this article?
- TinternAbbot, on 05/15/2008, -1/+12Absolutely worthless article. I was expecting humorous thug-speak. Instead it was vague pseudo-advice.
- glinsvad, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1I thought the School of Hard Knocks was about learning to punch harder...
- SpencerMc, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3"I, on the other hand, am a fully-rounded human being, with a degree from the University of Life, a diploma from the School of Hard Knocks, and three gold stars from the Kindergarten of Getting the ***** Kicked Out of Me."
-Blackadder Goes Forth - tidu, on 05/15/2008, -0/+5Want a 4.0? Skip all that other stuff, like social activities, personal growth, etc. and study. You'll have no friends, but at least you've got a 75k salary.
/sarcasm - Celeron, on 05/15/2008, -5/+4It's easy to get high GPA's in half ass majors like the liberal arts, humanities, social sciences, and business. It's just all memorization, unlike actual majors like science, and engineering where you have to use your analytical skills.
- TinternAbbot, on 05/15/2008, -1/+6One could easily argue that it's easy to get a high GPA in majors like science and engineering where there are rules and definite answers and where one is not subject to the whim of the grader.
- chuckDontSurf, on 05/15/2008, -1/+2One could argue that. But they'd be wrong.
- TinternAbbot, on 05/15/2008, -1/+2My engineering friends for the most part have 4.0s or close. My humanities friends generally have lower GPAs.
- chuckDontSurf, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1That's because they're dumber. And I'm not trying to be clever. I've taken "humanities" classes and they've all been a breeze compared to the engineering classes. I think just about any engineer will tell you this. Try getting your humanities buddies to take a couple of engineer classes and see how they do.

- CynicSight, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2They forgot one: Cheat.
- skyred, on 05/15/2008, -1/+0that is the best part. Always do it first in academic work. But never in the real world.
- SaladCactusKing, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1"Yo man...the streets!" -Manny Escuela
- bluehark, on 05/15/2008, -1/+6sorry, i realize that i might get dugg down for saying this, but this is a bunch of BS. you can write anything as self-help these days, and it'll be bought. but ask yourself, did you ever, after these quick, in 7 steps, fix up your life, did you ever change anything?
- chromerium, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2I didn't buy anything. Its the internet, I read it for free!
- PabloIV, on 05/15/2008, -1/+8These are pretty vague, cookie cutter, Dr. Phil, Self-help, social-worker, Dangerous minds, cliched, "wisdoms" that I don't think are really going to change anybody's lives, much less those of the people who are flunking the school of hard knocks.
- Epik, on 05/15/2008, -0/+6Skip the parties and drugs? Wrong. Skip the bad people is more like it. Don't put the blame on parties and drugs :(
- noisymime, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3I feel sorry for the author, who will die without ever having lived.
- BuryIt, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3I prefer the school of Hard Knockers.

- bokep, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2Looks like this article didn't pass.
- Doublemint, on 05/15/2008, -1/+2Why the hell did so many people digg this crap?
- skyred, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1because there are still many losers who haven't realized that 4.0 is definite a failure!
- ZenMojo, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4Everyone knows that drugs and alcohol are extracurricular activities in the school of hard knocks. DENIED!
- frisk415, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Look for good contacts on line? Ok buddy.
