B.O., Bacon fat, Pot smoke, and just a hint of Old Spice - gabbagabba, on 04/02/2009, -1/+5Whatever happened to just being yourself?
- aitf311, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3The problem with that is something 'yourself' sucks.
- foucaultsvac, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3I want to find out who brands themselves as a "genius," and punch them in the face.

- KaivenTor, on 04/02/2009, -1/+2If all the world is a stage, the internet has to be some sort of mutated mega stage equivalent to Woodstock before and after rioting. Either way, if you're freelancing, building your business, or heading off on an ego trip, this is pretty good info.
- rupric, on 04/02/2009, -2/+3Great read! It's working for me. I wasn't sure if people would read my blog about power tools but that was my business so I started writing anyway. Little following at first but it's grown to a good group of people. I'll never be an "A-lister" from it but it lets me have a lot more fun with my job which is also very important.
- brid57, on 04/02/2009, -3/+4Buried for title...
It's about being a power blogger and nothing about a "Business brand name" - celotil, on 04/02/2009, -2/+3I'm guessing you've never heard of the phrase "Personal Brand" before, and probably think of business cards when you read the phrase "Personal Calling Card" and you'd be wrong - follow the link and try to understand,
http://artofmanliness.com/2008/09/07/the-gentleman ...
Brand isn't the best word for it, but it's one of the more appropriate. I suppose another very good one would be Reputation.
The article isn't about business branding, or businesses in general. It's about presenting yourself, personally, as a professional - not necessarily a suit and tie professional, just professional in general.
It's about your name, your own name, being associated with something in people's heads, so the next time someone says to someone else,
"I was thinking about miscommunication tools and finding someone to help me misunderstand the obvious."
His friend can respond,
"Oh, I know! There's this guy, caught him online, calls himself Brid57."
You may work for a company that sells products, but you might wish to be associated with something else, something more personal that you yourself can market and deliver to other people. That's what the article is about, and that's what the title is about.
Buried for being a wanker. - diggydougie, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1Nothing. It's about making a brand of yourself. It's treating yourself as a product and making it (you) look good.
- zyxxyz, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1When people tell you that you should just be yourself, what they really mean is they hate you and want you to change.
- diggydougie, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1Sounds like good advice for a job seeker as well.
- diggydougie, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1Rule for gifts to world leaders or people in power positions:
Don't give it If it uses a plug. - diggydougie, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1Give the guy a break. He's obviously in marketing.
- remo2012, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1The Internet Legend is a master of this.
http://www.youtube.com/user/remo2012 - brid57, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1Ok you are right that "Personal Brand" can have a second meaning,
but the title still sucks because it has 2 meanings... - s0nicfreak, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1I thought it said personal BAND.
- zebraz, on 04/02/2009, -2/+2I want to be the total kind of genius that gives the Queen Of England an Ipod.
Or maybe some DVD's - oveedrx, on 04/02/2009, -2/+2damm, here i thought this was a DIY on making your farts smell "personal"
- diggydougie, on 04/02/2009, -1/+1If that is what you are all about then yes, you must "own" your farts. Make your farts known far and wide. Make people come to you for fart advice.
There is always something that you do better than anyone else. Or at least uniquely. Find that something. - FuzzplugJones, on 04/02/2009, -1/+0They forgot the most important advice of all:
Be famous through the mainstream media first.
Sorry, I keep seeing these pictures of Trent Reznor here and it's really starting to get on my nerves. - seanapdiamond, on 04/02/2009, -1/+0This is a great article! Very on point and important....I'm in a little bit of trouble because I tend to share a name with a gay male pornstar and his videos seem to outgoogle my accomplishments :(....check out this video as well, another great personal branding and job hunting resource http://twurl.nl/qz6v4m
