- JoeB4ever, on 12/24/2007, -2/+52hmmmm reminds me of my meth lab
- Xerces, on 12/24/2007, -1/+47would have been cooler if he tied a string to it, then shot it with a flaming arrow
- D3koy, on 12/24/2007, -0/+33He probably shouldn't have his dog around drain cleaner, glass, and Hydrogen...just a thought
- Smwbigboss, on 12/24/2007, -0/+31And rupees fell out
- unpolloloco, on 12/24/2007, -2/+26so, this guy needs to learn some basic chemistry/physics
1. latex balloons tend to store static charges quite well --- spark = bang
2. more surface area = faster reaction --- shred the aluminum foil, use less of it
3. muriatic acid (HCl) is commonly available - much better to use than drain cleaner
4. AlCl, the product of the reaction, is not going to be in a gaseous state - therefore, no need to filter (except for the fact that he didn't use pure HCl
5. you have an inflatable bomb - at least use it, not just let it go
6. you have AlCl, which apparently reacts violently with H2O, 'nuff said
7. dog + HCl = bad
8. dog + drain cleaner = bad
9. dog + inflatable bomb = bad
10. idiot human + inflatable bomb = Darwin award - edein, on 12/24/2007, -0/+22thats some long ass respawn time. Game of life sucks =(
- xkorbin, on 12/24/2007, -0/+21"A balloon full of hydrogen... ***** a."
- jguy584, on 12/24/2007, -1/+22It must be scary being dead for a couple days!
- nubnub, on 12/24/2007, -0/+15and he didn't blow the damn thing up? what the hell is wrong with this person?
- cheesefan, on 12/24/2007, -0/+12Mmmm, Hindenburg.
- nedbigbyssg, on 12/24/2007, -0/+11If you want to see a huge one ignite:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMB2VR0087w - dptechie, on 12/24/2007, -1/+11A much better way of making a hydrogen filled balloon, http://hydrogenbombs.ytmnd.com/.
- ObeseSnake, on 12/24/2007, -0/+10"dead for a couple of days." Jesus is that you?
- Octanus, on 12/24/2007, -0/+10Yes, but there are bound to be other chemicals in whatever the product he used to react with the Aluminum that he felt should be filtered out with the water to produce pure Hydrogen. Water isn't actually a part of the reaction just a filter.
- indolering, on 12/24/2007, -1/+10THIS IS A REALLY BAD IDEA. I know someone who did this, lit the balloon on fire, blew out the windows in his trailer, and was dead for a couple days.
-I - lucidguru, on 12/24/2007, -0/+8Only if you use an AC... If you use a DC current oxygen and hydrogen will separate out at the Anode and Cathode ends respectively.
Oh *****... wrong reply.... this is in response to Pradko. - bluvapor, on 12/24/2007, -0/+8Nice bud light in the back. Wait...
- Cint, on 12/24/2007, -0/+7because electricity comes from... magic!
- inactive, on 12/24/2007, -3/+10I think this was the Taliban's Air Defense System.
- Pradko, on 12/24/2007, -0/+7wow your a bitch
- westway2world, on 12/24/2007, -1/+8No sir. He is actually filling the balloon with pure unicorn......
- Tallon29, on 12/24/2007, -1/+8*****' A.
- JonTheGoose, on 12/24/2007, -0/+61. Install a hydrogen fuel cell in my car.
2. Fill a giant balloon with hydrogen.
3. Couple balloon to car
4. Never have to pay for gas ever again. - Osirus1156, on 12/24/2007, -0/+6Well this is more fun.
- obnauticus, on 12/24/2007, -1/+6Octanus:
It is a Single Displacement reaction ( Al+HCl -> H + AlCl )
Aluminum + Hydrochloric Acid Yields Aluminum Chloride - MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+5I'd like to congratulate you for posting the most thorough yet concise and itemized comment ever.
- westway2world, on 12/24/2007, -0/+5I'm pretty sure we all know hydrogen is explosive, but thank you databoy PhD
- Pradko, on 12/24/2007, -0/+5Good stuff, but the product (Aluminum Chloride) is explosivly reactive with water, dont let it dry out and then get wet... lol
- keyo, on 12/24/2007, -3/+8On a serious note, hydrogen cars are big-oils attempt at making a new market for themself. Don't swallow that *****, electric is the only decent way.
- comedianX, on 12/24/2007, -1/+6Couldn't he have just used water and an electric charge? No hydrochloric acid needed.
- inactive, on 12/24/2007, -3/+7I'll just pretend to understand everything you're saying.
- subliminalurge, on 12/24/2007, -0/+4Dude, it's the explosive part that makes hydrogen fun to play with. Ever played with a balloon full of CO2? Talk about boring.
- inactive, on 12/24/2007, -0/+4*****' A...
- inactive, on 12/24/2007, -2/+6How to damage your hearing, get 3rd degree burns and a nasty infection in 5 easy steps!
1. Put a half cup of flour in a regular sized balloon
2. Fill the balloon with air (make sure the balloon a nice and tight)
3. Get a match or lighter (The next step is really important)
4. While holding the balloon on your ear, light the match or lighter and place the flame against the balloon
5. After the massive explosion wait 24 hours before calling for help. - dptechie, on 12/24/2007, -0/+3Actually 2Al + 6HCL -> 3H2 + 2AlCl3 for anyone trying to do this.
- Twinfire0, on 12/24/2007, -1/+4His dumb what?
- ejreynolds, on 12/24/2007, -0/+3Also were he to use household muriatic acid (hydrochloric acid) of a decent purity for all intents and purposes bubbling the H2 through the water to purify it be unecessary, though twinfire0 made a good point about the space in the bottle. I think perhaps by using just the pure acid (not the drain cleaner) and attaching the balloon to the top of the 1st bottle, alot of unecessary parts could be eliminated. but hey thats just me.
- Osirus1156, on 12/24/2007, -1/+4Lol why? Hydrogen is not illegal or anything...
- mthe0ry, on 12/24/2007, -3/+6Unless there were some magical force that separated lighter elements from heavier elements, preferably causing the former to rise and the latter to fall. Then the lighter, rising element would fill the ballon while the heavier elements would sink and remain in the bottle. Too bad no such force exists.
- Xerces, on 12/24/2007, -0/+3also a much more interesting way to do it
- DeathJux, on 12/24/2007, -0/+3You may not have to pay for gas, but no energy is free... you'll pay for it one way or another.
- NinjaBongoMan, on 12/24/2007, -0/+3Aluminum and hydrochloric acid. He used "The Works" for his HCl, it's a toilet bowl cleaner.
- BigATB, on 12/24/2007, -0/+3you mean the waste thats normally poured down the drain every time you clean a toilet
- Cerpin_Taxt, on 12/24/2007, -0/+3the guys digging you down are ***** dumb
- dampcloth, on 12/24/2007, -0/+3STONER
- Twinfire0, on 12/24/2007, -0/+3Wouldn't that be a good thing, depending on your original intentions?
- dptechie, on 12/24/2007, -1/+4Ya, but the extra oxygen will make the explosion better, if you wanted pure hydrogen all you'd need to do is slightly modify the container to separate the dipoles.
- smackhero, on 12/24/2007, -0/+3the method in the video doesn't produce pure hydrogen either.
- daleeburg, on 12/24/2007, -0/+3He uses "The works" but I have done this before and Red Devil Lye, a common drain cleaner, does a much better job. The lye comes as a powder though so it is best if you add a little water so that reaction occurs quicker. Oh and the bottle gets HOT.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3Peter: To the HindenPeter!!
*Crashes into Joe's house.
Peter: Oh my god, I'm so sorry Joe!
Joe: HOW CAN YOU AFFORD THESE THINGS! -
