Step 2: Do It
Just saved you 5 minutes. - Wiini, on 01/10/2009, -1/+14An agnostic person once told me that people who relish new years, and new years resolutions are simply people who aren't strong enough change themselves or their circumstances without an external excuse. While it may be a little harsh, there is truth in it.
- Epitaph, on 01/10/2009, -1/+11dugg for truth but, out of curiosity, why did you specify that he was agnostic?
- Intention, on 01/10/2009, -2/+12title almost as annoying as the term "life hacks"
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/10/2009, -0/+8Damn I wish I read the comments first.
- inactive, on 01/10/2009, -0/+7That won't get me a threesome every night, and that is what my ideal life specifies in its requirements.
- inactive, on 01/10/2009, -0/+7Sorry.
I play video games.
GTA is like Pac Man, except it's more violent. - StigNordas, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6The chart's a good idea, mine would be more like a cheese wheel cut in half.
- leec85, on 01/10/2009, -0/+6Every time a health or fitness article comes up on digg there are a lot of guys like "just do it" "stop being a pussy", well that's cool and all but that's the same crap people say every year and here we are with an obesity epidemic. We got here because we don't teach health and nutrition in schools and every where you look there is an ***** celebrity on tv telling you if you buy something then you lose weight, so you believe Oprah. It's time we really start helping people and stop exploiting the fact that people don't know much. Instead of just telling my friends and family becoming diabetics and obese to "man up", I created a free web app for them called ebodyplan.com. Now they can easily track their food and exercise and create a plan.
P.S.
If your going for the negative digg icon because I posted a link, make that decision after you view the app. - enoerew, on 01/10/2009, -2/+7Why do we want an ideal life, literally a life built on ideas?
Humans have been trying to bring order to the world through ideals for thousands of years and it has not brought peace or happiness. Ideals create conflict because you must either agree or disagree with the idea.
Creating ideals for ourselves will also produce conflict because one begins to think "I should do this" or "I should not do that"...and then I'll be happy.
Simply, stop creating arbitrary organizing schemes and act well and act kind to all. - Bobby1978, on 01/10/2009, -0/+4Wrong. A man needs no words, just pictures of boobs and sexy chicks, and workout equipment.
- Wiini, on 01/10/2009, -0/+4Fantastic question. The reason being that the last time I brought it up, people accused me of being "religious". Yes, of course on digg.
- inactive, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3In short:
GTA - tehxen3, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3I can't digg you enough.
- Epitaph, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3yea, but you hardly need proof of that
- inactive, on 01/10/2009, -0/+23.Clean up with tissues
- NJRFilms, on 01/10/2009, -1/+3Resolution #1: Read this article
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/10/2009, -3/+5Get up... get gun... run out of your house... punch someone in the face for their car... run over an elderly person... pick up a whore .....*squeak squeak squeak*... kick her out and run over her too... go buy some drugs an go on a killing spree... DONE !
- gfxlonghorn, on 01/10/2009, -0/+2I have to agree only because I probably was to weak to change without an external excuse, but who is? Honestly, very few people possess the capability to say " I want to do this" and follow through with no lapse of will throughout the entire course. In order to change, I had to use an excuse to get myself to start, but eventually that excuse kind of faded, but I still kept doing those things because it became habit forming. The only way I was going to get myself to the gym for the first couple of months was the notion that I would be able to get girls. That's not why I go to the gym now, but it kept me going there until my brain could see that working out released endorphins and that it liked it.
So please stop pretending like your high and mighty because you don't use New Year's resolution or a resolution at any time, because us down here at sea level need a kick out the door before we can start something. And if we end up at the same place, who gives a ***** what it took us to get there.
@saranagati
I find it funny that an improvement means that you stop talking to people and never leave your house. - Epitaph, on 01/10/2009, -0/+2haha. yea. they'll get over it soon enough, though.
- Rinnt, on 01/10/2009, -1/+3To prove agnostic persons can make true statements?
- saranagati, on 01/10/2009, -0/+2I find that its a good date to use to reassess what i've done and how i've done it for the past 12 months. Usually when I notice things after the reassessment i decide to change or improve those things. Like last year I decided I didn't like half the people who talked to me on a regular basis so I decided to be more of an *****. Now I have less friends and was asked to start working from home. Problem solved!
- DLindberg49, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Very well organized and thought out! This should be a great help for anyone wanting to accomplish their goals.
- daviddiaz, on 01/10/2009, -1/+3It's too complicated. just be happy and move on people! geez
- Epitaph, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1grr.
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/10/2009, -1/+2what's GTA? this is my resolution
- Epitaph, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1thank god someone finally said it
- LimEeHai, on 09/27/2009, -0/+1In this world there are too many bright deas of what is suppose to be done. Different people will definitely have different views. What matters actually is to do things that does not implicate others and not sinful. I think this way, life will be better.
- tviitajylha, on 01/14/2009, -0/+1http://digg.com/educational/START_FINDING_LIFE_PUR ...
- mikinurbook, on 01/10/2009, -1/+2I made a pie chart and it helped me decide early on not to make reading that entire article a goal of mine, and as a result I couldn't be happier about only making it through the first two paragraphs.
- tehxen3, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1I guess you've never heard of Modafinil, Adderall and such.
- inactive, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1Getting dugg down because it's a pretty naive statement that's over-simplifying life.
- escapeZmatrix, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1Beautifully stated!
- saranagati, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1i'm amazed you're getting dugg down. Maybe because you didn't already know this?
- dudetaz2003, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1That is a well done app. dugg and signed up. :)
- saranagati, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1I almost bought that book a couple days ago. I guess i'm going to have to buy it now.
- qeek, on 01/10/2009, -1/+2The first step in designing your ideal life should be:
Stop reading worthless lifehack tips. Nobody has ever achieved anything by reading. - saranagati, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1You should add Make a Pie to your pie chart. Then you'd be even happier.
- honeybrass, on 01/10/2009, -1/+1A pretzel would more accurately describe me, besides, I am likely to eat a cheese wheel.
mmm... cheese - ejlewis, on 01/10/2009, -4/+4Take it one step at a time:
Identify a problem. FIX IT!
Identify another problem... FIX IT!!
Repeat as necessary until it's all FIXED!! - CaptainDDL, on 01/10/2009, -1/+1Good article, but probability states that I'll likely never follow any of the steps in it. Motivation FTW.
- Birdoftruth, on 01/10/2009, -2/+2thats because unfortunately there are a small group of radical idiotic atheists that believe life revolves around the fact of god not existing.
- saranagati, on 01/10/2009, -1/+1You're right, you can skip step 1 and just do it. It'll be you and your two hands tonight.
- redhotq, on 01/30/2009, -0/+0title almost as annoying as the term "life hacks"
- extraolikeme, on 01/17/2009, -0/+0Another great piece full of strategies we can all follow!
- koki5, on 02/06/2009, -0/+0Great idea... Good approach to follow...
- ScotchInBox, on 01/10/2009, -1/+1Am I the only one sick of these Get Things Done (GTD) blogs that keep showing up? It's the same stuff rehashed over and over.
"I was at the gym last night and was shocked to see 3 times as many people there than normal" No! Your kidding? Wow that's amazing! Friggin please - like that's a revelation?
The best thing I read (actually audiobook) about REALLY getting things done is "The Answer" by John Assaraf and Murray Smith.
1. Set little goals to get you in the practice of achieving goals.
2. Don't procrastinate.
3. Follow through on your goals.
That's it. Enough already. - galvanize, on 01/12/2009, -1/+1buried for plagiarism.
